This is "Beauty addicts anonymous", a wonderful community of beauty product addicts & we have been going a hot minute... some may say we are enablers... many would say that they are much more intentional about their stashing and usage since joining this sisterhood.

@PomRuns DD9? Does that mean you have 9 children? Brava!

PomRuns · 29/06/2022 12:18

Feels like it but no just 2!
I do feel like 9 might be a tricky age for girls ….

Caggie09 · 29/06/2022 19:18

Garnier SPF. Its my HG. Wrote about it loads!

Augustinus Badar oil. This is not worth the price they are charging for this, but i havent looked at price. I know it will be £££ though! Smells weird, not sure what makes this brand so special..

Fresh rose hydration toner. My favourite. Its in the name, so refreshing, and a subtle smell of rose. Its like a splash of cool water on a hot day. Moving on to my bigger bottle now!

Also popped into the new Harrods Beauty store. A sheet mask and a Sol De Janeiro mist. Which i see has been debated. I love it, the mist i got was one in a pink bottle, not yellow though!

Two more empties and no purchases - yet.😁

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water 125ml. I use this a lot and will repurchase when I have used the other cleansers up, which could take a while. (6)
Mitcham 50ml, use this all the time, which may explain why there are another 10 in the cupboard. (7).

Fraaahnces · 02/07/2022 04:40

Three empties all in one shower! 1) Ryo Hair Loss Care Shampoo. It’s supposed to be for an oily scalp, and mine is not. I purchased this because I have alopecia and find shampoos with Salicylic Acid and zinc soothing when my scalp feels inflamed. This also has ginseng and other calming goop. I really like it, but the scent is a bitter, medicinal herbal one and it’s not for everyone. Might buy again… unsure.

2)Fino Hair Mask… made by Shideido, I would probably have more of an opinion if I had better hair. It smells fantastic (soft, sweetish floral - not cloying though) but like most hair masks this weighs my hair down. It’s like cat hair on a good day, so it’s probably a me thing. Because I only use this weekly and need just a tiny amount, this lasted for AGES - even compared to the L’Oréal one I have going as well. It also spreads more easily, I think. (I dislike the scent of the L’Oreal one, but will review that in a billion years when it’s finished.) I have been given another Japanese hair mask suggestion. I think I will try that next, anyway.

  1. Aveeno Daily Moisturising Oil Mist. Great product. Crap delivery. There is no way you can mist yourself with the sprayer. If you have the strength to get anything out of it, it splatters you with uneven droplets in a weird arc. It also takes no prisoners in your bathroom, if you spray it. The shower will be a skating rink when you’re done After one spray your hands are so oily, it slips from your grasp if you try again. I take the sprayer out and tip it into my hand. This smells more like pistachio/almond than the BUM BUM cream and is more effective. I find if I apply it when the shower is finished but my skin is still wet, it is less dangerous and more efficient.

June empties!

Aveda botanical repair leave in treatment
I seem to get through one of these per month. HG for me love the stuff

Chantecaille la crème a la rose de Mai
This was actually really lovely! Smelled of rises, very calming! I prefer a thicker cream personally but if I get sensitive at any point I might come back to this!

Dr jart ceramidin cream
Very good! beige in colour which really amused me for some reason and made me wonder why other creams are white?? I will RP this when my stash is gone even if it's for the kids.

111 skin vitamin c brightening booster
RP for me! Felt like a good consistency, no drying, no smell, just perfect! I have a good stash but will get this again

ESPA refining skin polish
Ive just realised that I used this as a face scrub and actually it might be for the body!! I LOVED LOVED LOVED the packaging and for that reason might RP

REN Atlantic kelp and magnesium body wash
I like this! It smells nice and does the job. The kids nicked it which is a good sign haha

@supadupapupascupa (honestly, you have the best name on MN…) The Dr. Kart Ceramidin is what started my love of K (then J) Beauty. (Apart from double-cleansing which was taught to me by beautiful Japanese colleague when I was young.)

supadupapupascupa · 02/07/2022 14:26

Haha thank you. What do you mean by K and J please educate me. I know nothing about the brand only that I loved the product!

Fraaahnces · 02/07/2022 17:07

K = Korean and J = Japanese. I tend to prefer their formulations. I’m finding a lot of western companies are coming out with “innovations” that were used years ago in Asian skincare.(like double-cleansing, etc.)

Caggie09 · 03/07/2022 18:42

Just two for me this evening.

Sundey Riley Saturn treatment mask. It's in rotation with some other mask. This ia for spots and blemishes. I get one annoying hormonal spot, this just blasts it away. I also use it as a prevention too. It smells iffy, but works wonders! Have one more im stash.

SDJ Bum Bum scrub. Smells like a hoilday, so on a gloomy wet day like today, this really perked me up! It reminds me of getting showered and preparing for your night when your abroad! It brings back memories! Very scrubby, and leaves you soft!

I am sitting on two unopened 25-ml pots of Sol De Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream waiting to be used, and the polarising opinions on its scent make me both curious and anxious right now 😅

@clary I really didn’t need to do this, but… I also bought the M&S Beauty Bag when I was purchasing a pair of sandals online 🙈

In my defence, all I can say is that the galloping inflation is only going to make everything more expensive, so buying stuff now saves me a few pounds in the long run. And it’s a well-known fact that I am not a stranger to expired skincare and beauty products, so it is all going to be used up eventually.

The evidence of this are my June empties ⬇️

milk_shake k-respect Smoothing Shampoo (10 ml; £1.49) – I found it difficult to wash it out, so my hair never felt (or looked) clean. Maybe I would have appreciated it more if I had a keratin treatment to maintain, as this shampoo is specifically designed to be used after those treatments 🤷‍♀️

milk_shake Integrity Shampoo (10 ml; £1.49) – it was good at maintaining my hair colour but smelled of caramel which is not my favourite scent, I must confess, so I won’t buy the full size.

milk_shake Integrity Intensive Treatment (10 ml; £1.49) – a thick white cream which also smelled of caramel. I saw no difference/improvement in my hair after using it, so I won’t purchase the full size.

milk_shake Incredible Milk (10 ml; £1.49) – this one smelled of custard 😅 I liked the smoothing effect it provided to my frizzy hair but I’d seen better results from other pre-styling products, so I won’t buy the full size of this hair cream either.

Bumble and Bumble Prêt-Á-Powder Très Invisible Dry Shampoo (25 ml; GWP) – it was manufactured in August 2008, so I guess it was expired by June 2022. Not sure if its old age was the reason (it contains alcohol, so did it evaporate?) but the 25-ml bottle was only enough for ONE use. The full size is 150 ml, so… good for six applications? A bit too few for £24 IMO. On the positive side, I really enjoyed its scent and loved how fresh and clean it made my hair look and feel. It also added a bit more volume to my hair. There was a little white residue which disappeared once I brushed my hair through.

Sukin Hydrating Mist Toner (125 ml; £8.10) – it expired in May 2019 🤢 The toner had really good ingredients but the mist was not very fine, so I wouldn’t recommend spraying it over a full face of makeup, as there’s a high chance that you'll ruin it.

Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner 24H in 01 Intense Black (2.2 ml; £8.99) – I purchased it back in 2013 🙈 It got buried in my stash, and when I dug it out in... February 2020 😬 it was so dry that I had to keep using Inglot Duraline to revive it (I do confess, I still cannot bring myself to bin dead items which have a potential to be turned into zombies 🧟).

Finally, two weeks ago I scraped out the last bit of it. I really disliked the brush that this eyeliner came with – the bristles splayed out so quickly! The good news is that several years ago Maybelline upgraded their eyeliner brush into a double-ended applicator, and it is much much better. How do I know? Well, because I’ve got this other eyeliner in my stash, too! 😅

Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeup in 1N1 Ivory Nude (30 ml; £25.02) – my HG foundation which expired in September 2020. It is my go-to foundation for a long day/event when I have no time/chance to blot or powder, as I know that it won’t crack or slide off even on a hot day or inside a poorly ventilated venue. However, it has a physical SPF 10 which makes it unsuitable for flash photography. Another disadvantage is that you need to purchase a pump separately, and last time I checked it cost £5.50.

@CherryMargo will be interested when you get to use your bum bum cream... you have the deciding vote!
Thank you for reframing the rising cost of living & providing me with a reason to but more beauty products 😘

Experiment627 · 04/07/2022 06:52

I am trying out Poundland skincare and literally think my face will fall off after using the #6 night cream... thank God the apartment I am in has Cowshed amenities - softens the blow somewhat.

PomRuns · 04/07/2022 06:56

Oh no @Experiment627 pleased you have the cowshed to help!

Fraaahnces · 04/07/2022 08:30

@Experiment627 , hope your face feels better! I’d be doing cool compresses with a washcloth if I were you!
@Caggie09 - really interested in your take on the B.B. cream. (Especially as you don’t dig caramel scent much. I am wondering if people respond to certain “notes” in the scent.)

MissingGrandstand · 04/07/2022 08:39

@Fraaahnces 3 empties in one shower is good going!

@Caggie09 yes do share about the bum bum cream! I've never used it (also have an unopened pot to try) but I LOVE the scented body sprays and always get compliments when I wear them, maybe it's body chemistry as others have suggested? Even my sister, who is very cool and would never normally copy anything I have, asked what it was then put it on her birthday list. On me they smell like biscuits, but in a good way if that's possible?

@Experiment627 hope you have recovered from your Poundland adventure!

I have spectacularly fallen off the no-buy wagon this weekend, so I thought I might as well compound my misery, buy even more over the weekend and then try no-buy July. Funny how a need to replace a moisturiser (Dr Jart water cream, a must have, will post empties soon) turns into orders on 3 separate websites...

FiveShelties · 04/07/2022 10:06

I am trying so hard not to google BumBum Cream, which I have not heard of before. Perhaps it is not available in NZ...................

Fraaahnces · 05/07/2022 07:39

One more empty… my review is that this product was simply okay. Not a miracle worker, but fine.

Fraaahnces · 05/07/2022 07:44

Forgot to link… it works but I have had better

Experiment627 · 05/07/2022 09:31

I may have somewhat exaggerated about my face falling off... that said the day and night cream do appear to dry rather than hydrate. Will be relieved when I can start something new later today when I get home.

Fraaahnces · 05/07/2022 09:58

I bought a hair serum to replace the Ichikami hair water. Wish I’d smelled it first. It reminds me a bit of an 80’s perfume. Hope it doesn’t linger

Experiment627 · 05/07/2022 11:26

Does it smell of Arpege? That was a perfume in the 80s... I adored it and then they changed the formula 😢😢😢😢

PomRuns · 05/07/2022 11:33

On a perfume note - so disappointed with my Jo Loves perfume. I love the fragrance but it lasts about 5 minutes. Such a waste of money as in can’t smell anything at all- utterly pointless.

Fraaahnces · 05/07/2022 18:17

I found the same issue with Jo Malone @PomRuns. heartbreaking. @Experiment627 my mum used to wear Arpege and then swapped to Oscar De Laurenta when the formula changed. Both heady, powdery shore florals. Why do they change formulas? I used to love Yvresse when it was called Champagne. Now it’s cat pee. The original Opium was out of this world. Now it’s so samey.

Experiment627 · 05/07/2022 18:48

Thanks @Fraaahnces I will give Oscar de la Renta a whiff if I see it. I have had so many fave perfumes be changed or discontinued over the years... heartbreaking 💔
