This picture is very unflattering - why does John Lewis think it's a good look? I'd probably look even worse in them by the way.

She looks great. What's the problem? And hair-free fannies are hardly front page news these days.

ISpyCobraKai · 16/01/2022 09:01

Her fanny hair, her business.

CircleofWillis · 16/01/2022 09:01

Yes! I am a similar shape so would definitely look for something in this style but would go for cotton rather than nylon due to my propensity for thrush.

Daisy829 · 16/01/2022 09:02

Fine with the advert. The look of the fabric of the knickers makes me itchy so no, I wouldn’t buy them.

So refreshing to see an average body rather than a stick insect.

@Santiagopink

I just think women look so weird without pubes! Unpopular opinion I know. It just looks 'blank' to me. My first thought was deep discomfort at looking at a prepubescent crotch
It’s not a prepubescent crotch. It’s a woman without public hair.

For the record I have a full bush. I just really hate the way people somehow think a woman removing her pubic hair suddenly turns her into a child or that those who have a preference for that are somehow attracted to children. It’s a horrible attitude.

Bagelsandbrie · 16/01/2022 09:04

Pubic not public…! Grin

Covidclaire · 16/01/2022 09:06

@ChiefInspectorParker

No. They look too small and don’t flatter the model.
Exactly. The pants are too small and dig in at the sides.
SoManyTshirts · 16/01/2022 09:07

I look at that photo and think I’m thinner, got bush, they’d look much better on me. I like them but don’t think I’ve ever paid £18 for a pair of pants.

astorsback · 16/01/2022 09:07

Good on John Lewis for deviating from the six foot, size 6 model standard usually used and instead, using a bigger model who is probably more representative of their customer base.

The knickers are really nice but too small for the model.

suckingonchillidogs · 16/01/2022 09:07

I wouldn't buy them - I like me kecks to come up much higher than that! They don't look comfy at all

Toddlerteaplease · 16/01/2022 09:08

Better than the snag adverts. I'm all for body positivity, but don't think that extremely obese models should be used, in the same way that we would be horrified if an anorexic model was used.

Branleuse · 16/01/2022 09:09

I really prefer it when companies use more average shaped models. I really like it when companies show the same item on different sized people, but thats even less common.

Sittinginthesand · 16/01/2022 09:09

I think her shape looks fine. It’s the fact that the knickers are made of some nasty, synthetic see through stuff that’s the problem. Looks itchy and impractical. And bald fannies are weird.

Billandben444 · 16/01/2022 09:11

The pants are too small, they cut in and look uncomfortable with no give. Why wouldn't they have chosen a larger size? As to what is the point of this post, it was to encourage discussion on how female bodies are portrayed.

Stick insect? Nice. I know slim bodies aren't subject to the same prejudices as overweight ones due to society ideals etc but come on, why is it okay to talk about any womans body like this?

Clarice99 · 16/01/2022 09:13

It's so refreshing to see an average sized woman modelling underwear instead of the usual super thin, airbrushed models.

Having said that, the knickers are too small for this model and they don't look very flattering. I imagine those knickers to be very uncomfortable, they look 'itchy'.

Feelingoood · 16/01/2022 09:15

She looks great! Lovely curves!Well done jl!

SirChenjins · 16/01/2022 09:16

No, I wouldn’t buy them but only because I think they look too small for the model and therefore I’d question how comfy they were - I like big, comfy pants these days.

Otoh, I love that the model is mid size - not too slim and not obese - and probably more representative of many women. If the knickers were bigger and comfier looking I’d be more inclined to buy them as by using a model that size I could see how they’d look on me.

KiloWhat · 16/01/2022 09:19

Hate the knickers but glad I can see what they would look like on someone who looks more like me to make up my mind about them

KiloWhat · 16/01/2022 09:19

They do. They look itchy.
HelloDulling · 16/01/2022 09:19

It’s not an advert, it’s an example of what the garment looks like on a woman’s body, so that customers can picture themselves in it. I doubt the average JL knicker customer is a size 8, so it seems like a smart move to me.

Billandben444 · 16/01/2022 09:21

It is an advert that popped up on my FB page and it doesn't do them any favours however lovely the model is.

OP posts:
thedarkling · 16/01/2022 09:21

It feels like they're box ticking to get a regular woman's body on the advertising but they haven't given any thought to getting the right size knickers. They're not going to sell them because they look uncomfortable to wear.

RaininSummer · 16/01/2022 09:22

It isn't the best look but no doubt realistic for many of us myself included. On the fence a bit. Maybe there should be two pictures one of a slim woman with no spare belly and one like this one of a lovely woman with a regular un gym honed body so we can really see what we are buying
