This picture is very unflattering - why does John Lewis think it's a good look? I'd probably look even worse in them by the way.

I think they look dreadful on that model. They’re far too small.

If I were that shape I’d choose a different style to get a smooth outline under clothing.

FindingMeno · 16/01/2022 09:25

If she had a larger size and pubes I would prefer the image, but I still wouldn't buy the product.

BlancheB · 16/01/2022 09:26

Crazy that in 2022 we have to applaud seeing a more "representative" type shape on an underwear model. How many more years before we are seeing pants advertised with the full bush/protruding pubes?

I can't believe anyone - whatever their size or shape - would spend 18 quid on a pair of uncomfortable looking, scratchy synthetic knickers.

As for JL, I'm not gonna be grateful for this and start shopping there.

Justkeeppedaling · 16/01/2022 09:28

@Santiagopink

I just think women look so weird without pubes! Unpopular opinion I know. It just looks 'blank' to me. My first thought was deep discomfort at looking at a prepubescent crotch

I agree. I really don't get the current fashion for pube removal. It infantilises women, must be horrible when it starts growing back - itchy and scratchy - I couldn't be bothered.

ferneytorro · 16/01/2022 09:31

IMO We aren’t used to seeing women in advertising thar reflect a more varied view of the female population, we only will get this if we see more and more adverts like this.

elelel · 16/01/2022 09:33

I would be interested in hearing how hair removal infantilises a woman?

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/01/2022 09:35

good for john lewis

MargosKaftan · 16/01/2022 09:41

First of all - can we stop with the "great to see a real woman" shite as if all size 6 models aren't equally human. A variety of body shapes is good, insisting that this is "real" but thin is "unnatural" is not. Nor are thin woman "stick insects" - its not acceptable to compare larger woman to blubbery creatures so stop comparing slim woman to spindly insects. All bodies are equally valid.

This photo is bad though as they've put her in the wrong size. I bet it would look a lot better in the correct size.

Exactly.

We don’t say someone who shaves their head looks like a baby.

They just look like an adult. Without hair.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/01/2022 09:44

you normally get tall very thin models, or size 14 or 16 for the large sizes if you ask to look at them in particular.
it is very hard to judge

MargosKaftan · 16/01/2022 09:44

@justkeeppedeling - you are assuming pubes have been shaved off, leaving a blunt end that can be itchy when regrow. Most woman who remove pubes entirely don't shave but use wax, creams or laser treatment, so any regrowth is with a natural shaped end on the hair and no itcher than hair that has grown without being removed.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/01/2022 09:49

i must say she is not owning the look as much as the models below, she has her arms across her in almost embarrassment

SirChenjins · 16/01/2022 09:50

I’ve waxed in the past - it was definitely itchy when it started to regrow. Thank god those days are behind me.

It looks that that area has been airbrushed on the model - it looks blurry to me. Either that or I need to change the prescription on my varifocals Confused

NotImpossible · 16/01/2022 09:50

I agree that no pubes looks weird in general, and the underwear looks too small and very uncomfortable, but I am very encouraged by the use of this model (who looks great). Seeing more like this would definitely make me more likely to buy (non-scratchy, decent) underwear.

I agree, although it seems body positivity is only for those who are overweight, anyone else is fair game to pass comment on. I agree that the industry as a whole sets largely an unrealistic body image, but there are plenty of naturally slim women who are 5'10 and over. I am (ugly as in mind so would never have cut it as a model) and grew up with the tedious here's a sandwich, stick insect, real men like curves dogs like bones etc- thought we'd moved past that.
catfunk · 16/01/2022 09:53

No because I don't particularly like them, but I would lf they were my style. If you're referring to her not being a size 10 and having a C-scar then that's very sad.

DontTellThemYourNamePike · 16/01/2022 09:54

She's the same shape as me, albeit younger. The photo confirms to me that pants like those are not my thing. Anyway, as a few pp's have pointed out, they're too small. Maybe if she was wearing the right size, I might be persuaded that bikini pants would look ok on me. But those look as if they would not provide a very smooth silhouette under clothes, which is my main objective when I choose underwear. NO underwear looks sexy on me🤣

Iamkmackered1979 · 16/01/2022 09:54

I think if she was wearing the correct size they’d look much better but a pic of a woman in too small uncomfortable looking knickers isn’t really selling them to me. However it is nice to see someone who is a similar shape to me. I’ve got no issues with size 6/8 models however how they’ll look in clothes isn’t how I’d look in them. It does help if they are wearing the correct size.

Daenerys77 · 16/01/2022 09:55

They look very tight and uncomfortable to wear. I'll stick to my M&S granny pants thank you.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/01/2022 09:56

why is it sad @catfunk

i thought the point of the thread was to applaud more average sizes.
very few people are size 6

dementedma · 16/01/2022 09:58

Good to see a more typical body being used, but knickers are too small, too expensive and too expensive
