[quote Aphrodite31]@5128gap
Because people who struggle with their weight think its acceptable as its punching up. They fail to take account of the fact that a slim body is not necessarily considered attractive by its owner, or by society, that only idealises a very specific type of slim; that the absence of fat is not synonymous with 'perfection', and that slim women have hang ups too. Referring to women as stick insects is every bit as bad and as hurtful as fat shaming as its still telling them their bodies are unattractive.
Sorry but I don't quite agree.
Being fat-shamed involves some implied moral judgement - that you are in fact lazy/greedy/weak/incompetent if you've 'let' yourself get like that.
Stick insect to me means very luckily not prone to putting on weight. No merit due for being so thin. It's just genetics.
Nobody should feel judged because of their body.

Stick insect might mean that to a woman who struggles with being overweight and has only experienced the negative sides of that particular situation. But, seriously to compare a woman's body to that of an insect? How is that not incredibly insulting and cruel? Some, but very few, women are extremely slim due to genetics, others due to health conditions, still others because they feel healthier at a low weight. None of these are 'lucky' or necessarily percieve themselves as such, or as attractive, unless they are 'lucky' enough to also have a body shape that fits whatever is the current aesthetic, and to think its OK to demean them by comparing them to an insect because its OK as they are 'lucky' is pure projection. Its not a race to the bottom and you don't uplift one group of women by dragging down another.
