Rude man made me hate an outfit I was proud of

Bit crap with clothes, generally in running kit or jeans and shirt (wfh fulltime). Today taking Dd 13 Christmas shopping I thought I would dress up (for me) so wore white shirt with frilly collar, red cord dungarees www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/playsuits-jumpsuits/burgundy-cord-dungaree-crop-jumpsuit/p/802092667 and boots.
Having lunch I got up and walked past a table where a man said ‘Excuse me, you’ve got a tag hanging down the back of your dress’. Me (mortified) ‘Oh how embarrassing! Thanks for telling me!’ Pull off tag ASAP and shove in bin. Man: ‘It is embarrassing to have paid that much for that dress.’
Just walked away but felt shit all day. Was it a terrible outfit? FWIW I am a size 10 and flat chested.

Men can avoid hurtful comments by not commenting on a strangers outfit tbh. There’s nothing OP should do to avoid such comments.
Megan1992xx · 17/11/2021 14:49

Of course he was rude and an unnecessary comment but some men will always be like that, that is the reality.

I agree but no way should a woman change her appearance as a solution.

So we should either dress to please men or put u with rudeness and abuse from them.
I bet next months overtime the gobshite would not say anything if her Dh was with her.

@Megan1992xx

Well he was rude but he does have a point try buying something more feminine

I’ve had men comment on my outfits a couple of times in the past. Im sure it’s because I’m tall and confident and they want to bring me down a peg. Well fuck them.
My go to reply is ‘who made you Gok’ and give them my best fuck of face.
Please don’t let him put you off.

Sunsetttt · 17/11/2021 18:48

Oh wow what a horrible man. The dungarees are lovely. Great colour. Don’t let him ruin your day! The miserable git doesn’t deserve that power! And he’s the embarrassing one.

Lilolily · 17/11/2021 19:18

When I was about 17 I ordered new outfits for a weekend away. We never had any money growing up and I lived in charity shop and hand me downs. these were the first I’d bought myself with my own money and I was very happy with how I looked. I went up to the holiday “rep” on the coach to ask a question and he answered it sarcastically, ending with “in your billy bunting clothes”

I’m 45 and it still stings. People are dicks.

It’s a gorgeous outfit and I’m sure you rocked it. X

A man in a supermarket car park once addressed my 14yo SDD and 3yo DD saying "Do your mum's clothes embarrass you?"

SDD, quick as a flash, said "No, but your wife looks embarrassed by you". She was right, the woman who was with him looked mortified

ladygindiva · 17/11/2021 19:44

Love those dungarees. What type of boots did you wear with them? I'm thinking of getting them! Wondering what footwear would look good with them....

You have all really cheered me up. Yesterday was thinking this was going straight on eBay but relenting now.[/quote]
Let us know. You've a potential buyer right here 😜
Seriously, what a dick. There are so many men pulling this kind of crap I should have stickers made up.
"Thank you for your unsolicited comment, random man."

Hakunapotato · 20/11/2021 05:33

As if it’s anything to do with him. I always think there’s a difference between what women and men think looks good. Hint, many men want figure hugging, low cut, heels. Whereas my female friends will wear a band tee or dungarees (or a tiny dress - whatever tf they want to) and feel sexy and stylish in it. I am not man hating here. Just a general vibe I get.
