Rude man made me hate an outfit I was proud of

Bit crap with clothes, generally in running kit or jeans and shirt (wfh fulltime). Today taking Dd 13 Christmas shopping I thought I would dress up (for me) so wore white shirt with frilly collar, red cord dungarees www.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/playsuits-jumpsuits/burgundy-cord-dungaree-crop-jumpsuit/p/802092667 and boots.
Having lunch I got up and walked past a table where a man said ‘Excuse me, you’ve got a tag hanging down the back of your dress’. Me (mortified) ‘Oh how embarrassing! Thanks for telling me!’ Pull off tag ASAP and shove in bin. Man: ‘It is embarrassing to have paid that much for that dress.’
Just walked away but felt shit all day. Was it a terrible outfit? FWIW I am a size 10 and flat chested.

They are great. Embarrassing to be him and think that it's a dress, that it's expensive and that it doesn't look nice.

Echobelly · 14/11/2021 09:51

What does he think one should spend on a dress £4.99?! And why should the opinion of a total dick matter?

bizboz · 14/11/2021 09:51

Twat. He must be very insecure about himself if he thinks it necessarily to make unpleasant comme ts about other people's appearance.

Hopefully you won't be unlucky enough to meet anyone else with so few social graces but in such a situation I would just give them a withering look up and down as if to say "who are you to talk?" Or I might even say "Who are you to talk?"

Whose · 14/11/2021 09:53

You could have been dressed like a shit covered clown and he'd still be unreasonable.
What a prick.

TrueGrit54 · 14/11/2021 10:00

Very cute outfit. I doubt he knew anything about fashion and he was very rude. Don’t let him bring you down. Bet you looked great. I honestly would love to wear that outfit but 36D bust would ahem spoil the lines.

Ailsa2021 · 14/11/2021 10:04

I love it. I'd wear something like that. Always remember only people who are truly unhappy would say something as rude as that. Pity the man.

tickledtiger · 14/11/2021 10:05

He sounds like such a creep that if he’d have made a compliment he would still have put it in a revolting way.

I feel more sorry for whoever he lives with.

The dungaree outfit looks cool, don’t let it put you off.

Galaxy8822 · 14/11/2021 10:08

OP, he was very rude and also cruel. What a horrible person. You looked fab, I am sure of it!

Curiouserandcuriouser1 · 14/11/2021 10:14

Was he trying to neg you? I hate men that do this. Apparently there’s a book/following that tells them it’s the way to get women into bed - by undermining women’s confidence. Utter immature prick!

Helpstopthepain · 14/11/2021 10:15

Any time someone comments on your outfit (good or bad) you simply do an Eddie and say loudly and proudly,

‘Lacroix darling, it’s a Lacroix’

I really like them by the way.

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell · 14/11/2021 10:23

Right, you inspired me to wear these for the first time. Brace yourself IKEA!

Rude man made me hate an outfit I was proud of
ErmineAndPearls · 14/11/2021 10:25

It’s a cute outfit and that guy was a knob. Thought he was being funny. Sad.

HippeePrincess · 14/11/2021 10:27

Such a cute outfit, don't let him put you off it. If you looked shit your daughter would have said Muuuuuum you're so embarrassing you can't wear that! Wish I could pull that off, I'm early 30's and feel very unfashionable and can never put an outfit together!

skybluee · 14/11/2021 10:30

HE's just stupid and mean. Would it ever have crossed your mind to make such a comment to someone else? No, because it's horrible. Put him out of your mind - he's probably a very unhappy person.

OnGoldenPond · 14/11/2021 13:17

He was negging you. It's a trick misogynists use to drag women down when they have the temerity to feel good about themselves.

Ignore. Don't put your self esteem in the hands of some random woman hater.

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 14/11/2021 14:38

Some people aren't happy unless they've upset at least one person that day.

He was an arsehole.

goose1964 · 14/11/2021 17:13

It's great, really appeals to my New Romantic core, which is undergoing a revival. Definitely fashion forward.

ChequeredHistory · 14/11/2021 18:16

Chocolatecoatedkettlebell. They’re great dungarees and somehow seem the perfect vibe for an IKEA expedition. If any rude twat makes nasty comments then chuck a Billy bookcase at them.

Grainofsand · 14/11/2021 18:19

That’s a bold statement from someone who’s a 3 at its best

My go to insult for men like this Wink

Grapewrath · 15/11/2021 21:56

I’ve just bought those thanks to you! They’re so nice. Bloke clearly has issues.

ChipButtyCurrySauce · 17/11/2021 12:21

Well I'm gutted these dungarees didn't suit me! The size 12 was too big (10 was out of stock so thought I'd chance the 12) but as I'm a short arse (5'2") they looked more 'shrunk in the wash' rather than cropped. So back they go. 😢

Megan1992xx · 17/11/2021 12:29

Well he was rude but he does have a point try buying something more feminine

Sidehustle99 · 17/11/2021 14:00

Why must she dress more feminine? For the sake of rude men and you?
Megan1992xx · 17/11/2021 14:19

Just saying

notacooldad · 17/11/2021 14:22

Megan1992xx

Just saying
Just saying shit more like and poking for a reaction
