Love the title !
Thanks @ilovecherries

Another vote for Gabis for shorter folk @BergamotMouse. I’m 5’2” and they work turned up once or twice. I also find the Alix fine with a turn-up. To be honest though, I don’t really worry too much about my height with most Toast clothes. I am happy to wear dresses and skirts that are lower calf length. I find that straight skirts/dresses don’t work so well, but anything with more of a swing is great.

Hi, I hope it's ok to join in here? I'm a bit of a lurker on this thread sometimes - I love Toast but have to haunt eBay for bargains so I'm not usually up to date with the most current collections.

I'm wondering if anyone here knows, has, or remembers, a particular long Toast dress from a previous year - I've done some Googling and I think it was called the Tokyo and came in a dark green and sort of wine red?

I bought the green sometime over lockdown and loved it but never got the chance to wear it. I tried it on again last week and it mostly fits ok but it is a bit - gapey - around the chest area so I'm now wondering if it's worth me looking out for a smaller size. Does anyone have one, and if so do you remember if you sized down a lot for it?

(This is a new username - changed as I will probably post some pictures at some point Grin)

BigDayToday · 29/10/2021 19:08

Oh, and billydilly, that jumper in the last thread looks fab on you! I've been drooling over that style for a while - it's gorgeous!

ilovecherries · 29/10/2021 19:11

Welcome BigDay. I don’t know the dress you mean but someone probably will. I thought maybe it was the Ume as that came in burgundy, but the other colour in that was grey.

Was it this one?

Hello Toasties. Lovely new thread.
@BigDayToday I have the Tokyo dress in the dark green. I love it but found the shape tricky around the chest. It basically gaped on me. I sized down 2 sizes compared to my usual High Street size and then found it was slightly tight around the waist but fine on the chest. I therefore let out the darts and hey presto - a perfect fit! I wonder if that might be an option for you?

BigDayToday · 29/10/2021 19:20

Thanks @ilovecherries Smile It's a bit of a long shot I know! I've just looked up the Ume and it's definitely not that - the one I have is not patterned.

Memo7 · 29/10/2021 19:25

De lurking ready for my yearly toast fair isle knitwear fix 😂 eyeing up the Alpaca Yoke Sweater in green. Does anyone have a referral code / link at all?

BigDayToday · 29/10/2021 19:32

Ah, I've only just spotted your second post @ilovecherries. Yes, that's the one - I saw that on eBay but sadly it's the same size as the one I have!

@MrsCat1 that's really useful, thank you!

Laska2Meryls · 29/10/2021 19:43

Laska slides in ......plonks herself down ready and sneaks a chocolate biscuit.. Oh is that tea on the go? Yes please !

Brilliant thread title Cherries

faustina · 29/10/2021 19:48

@Memo7 - I remember you from last year - the fair isle angst! I don't think they do referral codes anymore sadly!

Lovely title @ilovecherries!

Laska2Meryls · 29/10/2021 19:49

I received and returned the plum circular top today... In my opinion , dont bother, its has a really high slit neck and is strangely bulgy at the sides , whilst also managing to be being too short and too stiff..

I was pleased to grab a navy boat neck tee as one came back in in my size. and am now eyeing up the Alix indigo twill trousers , but am not sure what id wear on my feet, I am not keen on the socks and shoes look so usually only wear my Alix trousers in summer or autumn with with sandals or trainers and trainer socks

ScottishMouse · 29/10/2021 20:02

I wear my Alix all year round @Laska2Meryls, and the indigo ones I bought about 5 years ago are the ones I wear most. In winter I usually wear them with Blundstone boots. They also look good with high tops.

faustina · 29/10/2021 20:17

@Laska2Meryls I wear trainers and ankle boots with the indigo twill alixs - they're so brilliant - can really recommend

Memo7 · 29/10/2021 20:35

@faustina hi 👋 yes it’s me! Still over the moon about getting hold of that jumper last year! One of my most treasured clothing items.
Never mind about referral codes, was that since they changed things about on the website if I remember correctly? I will probably be purchasing anyway. I had my eye on the new Shetland fair isle knit for this year but I don’t love it enough.

ilovecherries · 29/10/2021 20:45

I wear my Alix with either flat ankle boots or brogues and socks. #ILoveSocksAndIDontCare!

Bigdaytoday I had that dress and then sold it on eBay as the chest gaped too much and looked a bit odd, not sure it would make much difference if you sized down.

Loved it otherwise as it was so drapey and silky to wear Grin

Stoic123 · 30/10/2021 00:07

Hi Toasties,

Bought the Cotton Poplin Tuck Dress today - a bit austere looking but it is well structured, very flattering and the material has a nice texture/is a good weight.

The sweaters looked lovely in real life (particularly Alpaca Yokes)- but reisted for now as they don't fit an obvious wardrobe gap.

ScottishMouse · 30/10/2021 06:32

@Stoic123, I love the look of that dress. What is the sizing like on the top? Can you compare it to any other Toast dresses for size?

Craftycorvid · 30/10/2021 09:24

Morning all! I joined this lovely thread ages ago but then fell by the wayside. Like @BigDayToday, many of my Toast treasures come from eBay so I’m not as up on the latest collections as some of you; I do love hearing about them, though, and seeing the pictures. It’s a cheering interlude in a troubling world.

Stoic123 · 30/10/2021 09:42

@ScottishMouse.

I sized down 1 size from what I would get in other shops but, unlike say crinkle cotton and denim workwear dresseses, wouldn't go down 2 sizes as slightly more fitted in bodice around shoulders/chest.

TempleofZoom · 30/10/2021 10:11

I saw the cotton poplin pintuck dress yesterday in the Toast shop.
Lovely fabric but had just ordered the slate( navy) pintuck skirt which I preferred by a whisker due to the length on me.
It would get loads of wear though.
JL had lots of stock in also.
I tried on the Fern print dress, which if anyone remembers is similar to the vines dress they did last year.
I sized down to a 10 and it was still a comfortable fit .
The sleeves are very long but I like the effect
Its such a flattering design and sits beautifully, a heavy crepe.
Pondered waiting but I loved it so that was that.
The slate skirt and the size 6 swingy denim dress are arriving today so will report back.
Email had a intarsia navy jumper that looked interesting, similar to 80s Rowan.
Has anyone seen it in RL?

ScottishMouse · 30/10/2021 10:24

Thanks @Stoic123, that’s super useful info. I am busty so I may just try my regular size.
@TempleofZoom, I saw the intarsia jumper in store. So beautiful! It felt really soft too.

TempleofZoom · 30/10/2021 10:40

Oooh! The price though 😬 Will add it to the long list of things to knit. Im going to start a lacy vest today. One to pop over dresses. Someone mentioned Brora , has anyone tried Cabbages and Roses? They have some droolworthy fairisle vests which would look lovely over dresses. £££ as you would expect.
