The Levi website suggest only washing their jeans every 10 wears!? I wash mine after 2!!! How often do you wash yours?

It’s just bad environmentally to wash more than needed. It doesn’t matter how easy it is to wash things now, if you wear some clothes, if clean, an extra day or two then you should be decreasing how many washes per week/ month overall that are needed.

Pandaly · 26/10/2021 07:12

Would fabreeze be OK?

rrhuth · 26/10/2021 07:15

I think some people's view of clothes being smelly is 'no longer smells just washed' whereas others it is 'smells bad', and all the grades between.

LynetteScavo · 26/10/2021 07:26

I thought the whole point of jeans is that they're hard wearing and look better the more you wash them.

Floisme · 26/10/2021 07:31

I do a sniff test but ten wears feels about right for me most of the time. But then I no longer care for small children or elderly parents and or have unexpected or heavy periods or a particularly active job, all of which help my clothes stay cleaner for longer. I imagine Levi gave this advice without thinking too closely about the reality of women's bodies and many women's lives.

EvilRingahBitch · 26/10/2021 07:40

The recommendation is to protect your jeans as much as it is the environment - lots of denim obsessives who couldn't give an rat's arse about the planet try to avoid washing their jeans at all. Putting them in the freezer in an attempt to kill the bacteria which make them smell is a standard technique.

Pandaly · 26/10/2021 07:59

Are you meant to sit in the bath in them for a bit? Or is that a myth.

ElftonWednesday · 26/10/2021 08:02

This is why I just buy cheap jeans from Sainsbury's and wash them with the same frequency as any other trousers. They last as long as Levi's but without shrinking so are better value for money.

purplesequins · 26/10/2021 08:12

that was in the 'olden days' if you wanted skin tight jeans. before elastan was commonly woven into jeans for stretch.

To those who are saying they don’t sweat in the crotch area and don’t leak a little pee, why do you change your pants daily? Why don’t you just wear them for a week at a time?

The answer is because the start to smell a bit sweaty and of wee.

(Unless you don’t sweat or use a bidet after each toilet visit).

Putting something that has bacteria on it (your pants after wearing all day) next to something that doesn’t (your jeans) will eventually transfer across during the day as you move about and they run against each other. How can it not?!

And yes I wear cotton knickers, shower every day (sometimes twice in hot sweaty weather) but I need to wash my jeans after 2 to 3 wears.

Anyone who doesn’t really needs to sniff the crotch when they take their jeans off and they are still warm (the smell is stronger when warm) and see if you have been smelling all these years and nobody’s been brave enough to tell you!! Grin

PandoraP · 26/10/2021 09:01

Everyone sweats in their crotch area too. Unless you are Prince Andrew. Then you don’t really need to wash your Levi’s.

ExConstance · 26/10/2021 09:10

I don't wear my best black Levis every day and so I'd estimate maybe 8 to 10 wears. After I have worn them I air them over the bannister and then hang them up again in my wardrobe. They don't get smelly as I don't exert myself in them much and yes, i do wear knickers. If your jeans smell of wee you need to get an appointment with a Women's Health phisio, they can work wonders.
I have some cheaper jeans too, I tend to wear them after work for a week and then for dog walking etc. the following weekend, then they get washed. They go a bit baggy but I thought baggy was good these days?

AddictedToLuv · 26/10/2021 09:15

If I am wearing them all day then every 2-3 wears. Sometimes I just put them on to go out in public then change out of them into loungewear when I get back.

TuftyMarmoset · 26/10/2021 09:20

@Elieza because of discharge?

SunShinesBrightly · 26/10/2021 09:22

🤣🤔

2020isnotbehaving · 26/10/2021 09:27

Perfectly normal for women have discharge some women have a lot certain points. Not everyone has bone dry pants hence clothing close to area can smell that’s why we change clothes every day. Has half MN never heard of million pound business in liners?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 26/10/2021 09:33

People who don’t wash their clothes are in total denial if they think they don’t smell. That old jeans smell is grim. Yes it does smell. Other people can smell you and your manky jeans.

Elieza · 26/10/2021 09:40

We are told it’s hygienic to change underwear daily.

Housetrained children generally don’t tend to have discharge. Men don’t generally have discharge. And they are all expected to change underwear daily. It’s normal.

It’s because there is always a little urine on the skin/hair if we wipe only and don’t wash the area after a wee. Plus we do sweat a little. Plus we have a hormonal musky scent.

It’s all normal. And obviously worse if there are other health issues going on in the department in question.

Pants liners are probably bad for the environment. Best to use only if you need to rather than to avoid washing your knickers? Or is using the washing machine in a full load worse for the environment because if the power used? I don’t know.

All I suspect is that those of you who think you don’t smell after wearing your jeans a dozen times even having showered prior and wearing underwear could well be mistaken. You may wish to do the sniff test and see? I’m not being disrespectful incidentally. Just honest.

SocksAndTheCity · 26/10/2021 10:37

You're not being 'honest', you're being patronising and rude. Do you often tell other women that you know better than they do about their bodies/clothes/opinions and that if they don't agree with you they must be in denial, or are you just not able to grasp the idea that not everybody is the same as you?

I don't wear tight/stretch jeans and the ones I do wear aren't on day in and day out for 12+ hours; they are aired between wears and I don't sweat much. I also don't piss myself - if I did I would wear appropriate protection and seek some treatment.

I don't smell and nor do my clothes (and my clients would soon let me know if I did). This does not mean they smell of washing powder because they don't, and I'm glad about that because I really don't want to smell of washing powder.

Sooverthemill · 26/10/2021 10:42

I only wash anything if it's actually dirty. I wash jeans rarely ( like maybe once a year at most). I spot clean. It's not a new idea. I have enjoyed many a blog about someone wearing the same pair of jeans every day for 30 days!

MimiDaisy11 · 26/10/2021 10:47

Probably 10-15 wears. I remember reading that advice before and it does seem to make them last longer

DameMaureen · 26/10/2021 10:49

@IslaPineappple do you have a fanny that is hermetically sealed after your shower ?

Boudiccasback · 26/10/2021 10:51

This is so gross, every tome they are worn. Of course your crotch smells despite showering everyday.🤮

RampantIvy · 26/10/2021 10:54

I get the impression that some posters must have a very extremely sensitive sense of smell.

Unless it is very hot and the wearer is wearing very tight jeans I can't think that wearing a pair of jeans for just one day would smell that gross.
