I would love some wide navy trousers in flannel or wool. Not thin and plastic. Nope never happens. How about you?

^^ raincoat

DrRamsesEmerson · 17/08/2021 11:15

@Guineapigbridge

Higher waisted, cotton undies that don't have that 70 year old Nana vibe.

Any dress with 3/4 sleeve arms, where the arms are wide enough for swimmer-sized guns bingo wings

Get thee to Uniqlo for the undies! Theirs are really good.

Some lined (due to lumpy bottom), flat front, heavy in weight, wool or flannel trousers in a straight leg (as I have to shorten everything - I’m 5 foot 1) for work. Charcoal, navy and black please. Happy to pay £££ if they tick all boxes.

A pleated skirt in a weight that means it just falls. I find that they all sort of ‘sit’ around my hips which is not flattering. I carry more weight on the top of my hips than the bottom, like a vertical parsnip.

A very good quality white shirt (mor linen) in a petite fit.

WellTidy · 17/08/2021 11:20

not linen - there is loads of petite linen around, which is great, but it’s a bit cold for linen this august!!

@SpindleWhorl what do you think about the wasabi sandal by moshulu? I wear them all summer and walk miles in them. Loads of colours.

Thanks so much for the recommendation - I'm off to have a look. I have arthritic feet but don't want to live in plastic sliders!

DublinDoris2000 · 17/08/2021 11:25

Levi 501s with an extra couple of inches round the waist. Most jeans that fit my bum are too tight round the waist. Levis used to do a range with three shape types. Not sure why they discontinued them.
Knee length boots (flat, black) for longer legs. Really flattering they hit your knee, not so much mid calf.

Hop27 · 17/08/2021 11:26

@ChekhovsWorkshoppedShooter
Would you consider going to a tailor, I recently got my first custom suit and the jacket is just perfect ! I had no idea something could be do well made.

fruitbrewhaha · 17/08/2021 11:27

I have some lovely wide leg wool navy trousers from Jaeger. If they still exist, they probably do them every winder.

BikeRunSki · 17/08/2021 11:29

@MorrisZapp. I bought a hoody exactly like that from Land’s End at the start of this year

LeonardLikesThisPost · 17/08/2021 11:31

I want cotton hooded t-shirts. Not a hoodie, not with a pocket or hoodie styling, just literally fitted cotton long sleeved T but with hood. You see them in American TV progs sometimes, but never been able to find one here.

You can get them for men and teenage boys, but I'm quite curvy so they don't work for me.

NigellaSeed · 17/08/2021 11:32

A chunky knitted cardigan with a hood

LimeSodaTwist · 17/08/2021 11:35

A blouse made of nice material that doesn’t gape. They all seem to be either cut for people with no boobs or for people with Barbie-like proportions,

ViperHalliwell · 17/08/2021 11:37

I used to have a black ankle-length maxi skirt, 97% cotton 3% lycra, that I bought from GAP South Africa in 2014. Seams sewn in to let it kind of "balloon", but not far enough to be exaggerated or clownish. It was just a long skirt to wear every day, with anything. I wore it til it fell apart. I'd love to find an equivalent, but no luck so far.

LaBellina · 17/08/2021 11:38

Affordable leather Mary Jane shoes.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 17/08/2021 11:40

Boden Richmond trousers in charcoal grey. I have these in
several colours, and have asked for grey several times!

So have l! And asked for an elephant grey. Boden don’t seem to do grey anything tbh!

DinosaurOfFire · 17/08/2021 11:44

Low rise denim jeans which hug your thighs but flare out at the knee to a huge flare and are slightly too long so touch the floor, circa 1998. I have long legs, so most flares now are too short and some of them are just wide leg/ bootcut renamed as flared jeans.

SpindleWhorl · 17/08/2021 11:45

@WellTidy, thank you so much - the mauve sandals look good.

melonhead · 17/08/2021 11:47

The perfect Breton top! 3/4 length sleeves, navy and white, not too loose or too tight, flattering neck that's not too boaty... I have hundreds of stripy tops but I'm still looking for the perfect one.

newrubylane · 17/08/2021 11:51

@mistermagpie

A smart, waterproof, hooded, lightweight, long jacket or mac in plain navy or black.

It has to be smart enough to wear with a work dress and handbag but have a proper hood and be properly waterproof- ideally goretex or similar. But not be heavily branded or a ridiculous colour or make me look like I'm off to the Lake District for a walking holiday.

I have something very warm and insulated that fits the bill for winter but there just does not seem to be anything like that for summer (in Scotland where it still rains all the time).

This is me too - a decent raincoat that looks stylish and fitted-ish, and doesn't swamp me as I'm only a size 6.
TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 17/08/2021 12:05

@mrmagpie @newrubylane

Have you tried these? I have one which looks really smart, is really lightweight and foldable and properly waterproof. Well used for dog walks this summer due to the torrential rain, but also wear it to work (smart, corporate):

Ilse Jacobsen do something similar but more £££

poppym12 · 17/08/2021 12:05

Long floaty (a-line?) vest or cami tops that don't end above hip bone level. Cotton ones. I would but lots of them.

mistermagpie · 17/08/2021 12:09

@NotMyCat

Yes the protected species is probably pretty close, to be fair. Spendy though! 😒

prettyteapotsplease · 17/08/2021 12:09

I've been looking for a pale blue biker jacket in fabric (not leather) for a few years. I have a pink one which I love but blue is elusive.

haba · 17/08/2021 12:10

baby biker boots has made me laugh so much @BikeRunSki ! Like baby converse and baby DMs that people buy for their PFBs - I think there's a market there Grin

@Chunkymenrock I am also 5'0", and I have had success in recent years with dresses from:
°Emily & Fin (though they do lots of different cuts/styles, but I found a flattering one, I think they sell through Oliver Bonas, but mine come from eBay Wink)

°a jersey faux-wrap dress from FatFace which I was a bit hesitant about at first (as my norks usually tumble out of the top of wrap dresses, being so short backed! But actually is really lovely and completely disguises my middle)

° Seasalt (again, they do lots of different styles/cuts, but the ones with a slightly higher waist (so it nips in above my tummy) look good), and the lengths aren't too short, so hide thighs too.
Hope that gives you somewhere to start looking Thanks
