Can’t see a thread so I thought I’d start one. Yes, it’s unbelievably early, but I noticed Glossybox have already revealed their Advent Calendar contents for this year. Saw this reveal on YouTube this morning:

Have to say it doesn’t wow me, but there’s plenty of time and many more Advent Calendars to come, I’m sure! Grin

@gratedbeetroot

Never trust the bottle size! Brands are very inventive with their packaging to try to fool us into thinking that we're getting much more product than we actually are. Always judge product size by ml.

BakeOffRewatch · 12/09/2021 10:04

@MidnightMeltdown @chloechloe yeah I’m classing Augustinus Bader as a silly brand with silly prices, all show. I want to try the Votary Oil now, so I should just buy it on its own right? But no my brain is like for just £20 more you can have all this other stuff you don’t really want! I could make use of the Omorovicza lip balm and Wild Source mask, and the bath salt and oil would definitely get used, but have no interest in hair conditioner.

I find the advent calendars too much to try in one go, I do like these edits. It’s wedding anniversary soon may send DH via Liberty’s… do they tend to sell out quick?

BakeOffRewatch · 12/09/2021 10:05

I think Omorovicza is another one of those silly brands. Is that fair? My view is definitely down to being handed too many samples by them!

Naughty! My usual brands include Dermalogica, EL, Lancôme and Origins, where what you see is what you get! TBH I’m a bit wary of some newer brands where products/ brands have gained status thanks to bloggers etc. I’ve never tried CT or SR partly because of this.

I don’t think so. I was given a full size face mask by the Beauty Bible to test many (must have been not far off 20 years!) years ago. Back in the days when you paid just enough to cover postage and got 10 full size products! I thought it was great. Haven’t used it in recent years though, apart from getting a spray in a calendar one year.
imstilljenny2 · 12/09/2021 10:30

I've ordered the ASOS one too and used DH's email to get 20% off on the app. I bought him the 12 days of beauty for men advent calendar too.
I had the JL one last year in lieu of M&S and I may need to get it again this year as it was fab.
I'll try and resist the H&B one as three beauty advent calendars is just ridiculous!

Yes, I think so, although I like the products, I read an article about 2 years ago where the owners were laughing about how much people would pay !
AprilLady · 12/09/2021 10:45

@Polpette, I think there are two different AB creams, “The Cream” and the “The Rich Cream”. The first one is the less thick (and for many much better) one included in the latest Liberty bag.

gratedbeetroot · 12/09/2021 10:45

Wow, I just looked up the mask I tested. It was worth around £50 back then - it’s now over £70! They’ve definitely been around for a while, before social media existed.

PomRuns · 12/09/2021 10:48

How are we after the Tennis? Such a amazing young lady. Fantastic to see,

JustWhatIAlwaysWanted · 12/09/2021 11:33

Are we going to have thread 2? There's lots more discussion still to have before we get to opening time! (I am a start in December day by day opener)

BakeOffRewatch · 12/09/2021 11:43

Can we call it “Dropping Drawers of Disappointment” pls

AprilLady · 12/09/2021 11:50

@PomRuns, what she has achieved is astonishing. Hard to believe she’s around the same age as my DD.

Also felt huge sympathy and admiration for her opponent. She was obviously devastated to have lost, but managed to be so poised and gracious in her interview.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 12/09/2021 11:55

We definitely need another thread! It's only September and we haven't even seen the calendars yet!

Mankini · 12/09/2021 12:02

Finding it hard to choose a calendar this year - how hard is it to find a calendar with

  1. a pleasant smelling candle
  2. a couple of makeup bits that aren't 2 x black mascara / endless brown eyeshadow / red eyeliner
  3. a perfume that doesn't smell like Zoflora
  4. a couple of face creams / serums to try
  5. No black eyeliner, which makes most over 30s look haggard

Cult Beauty is leading the field presently (though too many brown powders) but I'm hoping Selfridges have something better on offer. Or maybe I'll get the Charlotte Tilbury calendar and buy my own smelly candle :) Basically, I'm underwhelmed and pinning my hopes on two calendars that haven't even been announced yet!

Polpette · 12/09/2021 12:33

@AprilLady ohhh! Phew. That makes so much sense. Thanks for enlightening me.

Coniferhedge · 12/09/2021 13:23

Hello everyone! I’ve just started a new thread over here:

@Mankini, totally agree about endless browns! That’s why I like the Christmas mini edits, like Laura Mercier mini caviar sticks, fun colours like gold and shimmery purple that you don’t really want full size of. But if they were too out there with the advents people wouldn’t want them, everyone hates that red eye liner. I think advent calendars will be over in 2 years, you can see people getting bored of the sameness already, especially with all the extra packaging and so on.

I think it probably is. I'm currently using two of their products, both from advent calendars. One is a clay mask and the other is a moisturiser. They are nice enough, but nothing special. Wouldn't dream of paying full price for them.

Window1 · 12/09/2021 14:35

Will there be a second thread for this topic please?

BakeOffRewatch · 12/09/2021 14:44

@Window1 link posted a few posts up by @Coniferhedge

hayley1964 · 16/10/2021 09:43

Wish I could afford one!
Only in my dreams could I afford those prices
