Can’t see a thread so I thought I’d start one. Yes, it’s unbelievably early, but I noticed Glossybox have already revealed their Advent Calendar contents for this year. Saw this reveal on YouTube this morning:

Have to say it doesn’t wow me, but there’s plenty of time and many more Advent Calendars to come, I’m sure! Grin

Oh, I remember that HoF thread! Brightened my December.

Still no H&B .

Am in denial that it was 4 years ago!

I so loved the HOF thread - made me cry laughing. Just brilliant.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/09/2021 20:39

Ken not Kem

I reallly should proof read

notangelinajolie · 11/09/2021 21:28

Thank you all for your suggestions for DD2 Grin
And thanks for the link to the HOF thread - I have Wine and I'm just about to start reading it while peeking (hiding behind) my laptop while the tennis is on.

Still not bought myself a calendar yet.

Have I missed any that are heavy on nice smells this year? ie a nice perfume, pillow spray, bath oil, candles etc? I don't mind a bit of make up and hair stuff but expensive serums and creams are wasted on me.

Past JL and Selfridges calendars have been good in the past so waiting for those.

Just had an Instagram ad for Liberty’s Director’s Cut, £75, value £290. The Votary cleansing oil alone is £55, which I think makes it worth it. I do wonder about items like the AUGUSTINUS BADER The Cream 50ml is £205, so the 15ml is “worth” £60, how can you get any positive effect or value from it with such a tiny amount? For just the experience of smell and texture you can go cheaper, but to see if a product is actually HG status you need full size.

ajandjjmum · 11/09/2021 21:58

@notangelinajolie I've just come out of the room as my blood pressure can't cope with the tennis either!

PomRuns · 11/09/2021 22:11

Might go to bed - finding the tennis too much.

AprilLady · 11/09/2021 22:32

I really have found my people. Also just decided I can’t watch any more of the tennis!

I ordered this and it arrived the other day. I absolutely didn't need it but love the look of the products and really glad that I got it. Nice bag too. I got 10% off so it was around £67 I think. Great value for what you get.

This looks good, but I cannot justify buying it!

The Votary oil is lovely, had it in a Liberty advent before. I’m a bit underwhelmed by the A. Bader cream which I’ve also had. It is good but not amazing. I suspect a lot of the price goes on the packaging which feels very luxe. However it’s one of those annoying bottles which you can’t open to get out the last bit of product, so the 15ml is not even 15ml. Mine also started to separate before I’d finished it (admittedly after a few months) - I found that a bit odd given the said impossibility of getting the product out of the bottle which should have been pretty airtight.

I don’t mind deluxe samples on the whole as I usually get bored of things before I finish a full size. I agree it generally makes it difficult to decide how good they are, but there are some amazing products which seem to make a difference after one use.

MidnightMeltdown · 11/09/2021 23:30

@chloechloe

The last time I used the AB cream, the pump stopped working so I pulled the top off. Inside the glass bottle there was a tiny plastic bag containing the cream! The bag was much smaller than the glass bottle, so the bottle is all show!

Actually, I take that back. I don't think it was the AB cream, it was the Sunday Riley Good Genes Glycoloc Acid 15ml, which comes in a big glass bottle, but actually has a tiny plastic bag of product inside.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 12/09/2021 00:12

@70isaLimitNotaTarget & @chloechloe
Ah wonder how Ken Cat is doing these days.
I can tell you that our Misty is still alive & kicking!

@gratedbeetroot if my memory serves me correct I'm pretty sure that Boots have offered many of the calendars on 3 for 3 (apart from the No 7 & the premium calendars such as Lancôme, YSL etc)

@MidnightMeltdown it is really shocking re that the container is mahoosive but the contents not so.

gratedbeetroot · 12/09/2021 07:03

Ahh, what a cutie!

I reread the HOF thread last night - I’d forgotten quite how bad it was Grin

Thanks for that - fingers crossed.

Regarding bottle sizes, I was drawn to the Space Nk calendar because some of the products looked a decent size in the photos I’d seen - the SR box looked a great size. Then reading the content list I discovered that the large SR box in the photo I saw contains 15ml, another 5 ml, another product 10ml etc. I don’t scrimp on product as my skin soaks it up; I need decent sized bottles!

Ilikeviognier · 12/09/2021 07:49

Anyone know if the ASOS one is likely to be any good? It looks good and I was holding off for h and b but im dithering massively….I feel i need to be quick- guessing ASOS won’t be around for long!

Polpette · 12/09/2021 08:00

@MidnightMeltdown you were right, the AB cream does come with a tiny plastic bag. Really really hard to get the bottle open though!

I've just bought the Director's Cut beauty bag and absolutely love it. All of the Liberty beauty bags have been exceptionally good and worth the money.

However! Having just used the AB cream I realise the AB cream in my calendar last year must have been off.

The one from my calendar was so thick it took seven pumps to cover my face...I thought this was normal, but having used just one pump from the new bottle and it was silky smooth I now realise the difference. Wish I'd realised last Christmas.

gratedbeetroot · 12/09/2021 08:03

The ASOS product list is on a couple of websites. It’s personal preference but I think the contents are decent overall and I’d use most of them which is why I’ve gone for it; I was about to repurchase the Origins mask that’s in there anyway so for me it’s a bargain (especially as I got it for £60 with the code that was around last week).

Ilikeviognier · 12/09/2021 08:43

Thankyou!

latedecember1963 · 12/09/2021 09:01

Ahh, the House of Fraser thread. Ever since that year whenever I mention anything about an Advent calendar thread DH always asks if there's been a funnel yet. 😂

Ilikeviognier · 12/09/2021 09:08

Ok ordered ASOS calendar! Will need to debate what to do now once the Holland and Barrett one lands! Can I justify more then one?!!Grin

gratedbeetroot · 12/09/2021 09:14

Great - hopefully there should be enough of us for an ASOS thread when December comes around. The threads make them even more enjoyable!

I think you can justify another one - H&B isn’t expensive, is it? Grin

Ilikeviognier · 12/09/2021 09:18

No that’s true…..Grin. Up for an ASOS thread!

MidnightMeltdown · 12/09/2021 09:48

@Polpette yes I think it was actually both products that this applies to. I have a tendency to pull packaging apart to recycle bits where possible, and remember being quite shocked to see the tiny bags of product inside the glass bottles.

It's especially naughty with Sunday Riley as the bottle is quite big, but when you think about it, 15ml is actually a pretty small amount of product. It's deception, because they are trying to make it appear that you're getting much more than you actually are.

They are quite difficult to pull apart, I suspect because they don't want us to know their dirty little secret!! But this also makes it hard for people to recycle packaging.
