Anyone else tired of high waists?

I liked them for a while years ago, probably because they were a welcome variation, but it seems now almost everything is high waisted, whether we like it or not.

It doesn't suit everyone, regardless of body type, so I wish there were more choices between low, mid and high available, especially with trousers.

I have a slightly short torso, so anything super high almost touches my breasts. It isn't flattering and makes me feel like a balloon, even if I am slim. Ive been searching for straight cargo style trousers for months but all of them have super high waists, even jeans aren't backing down a bit yet.
I can't get a sleek look at all, with so much fabric billowing around my gut like that. And since I don't like tight fitting clothes (except for my leggings) it always makes me feel bunched up and fussy.

I know it's all just trends and whatnot, but this one aint for me.

Tell me im not alone! Grin

It certainly does my head in. As someone with a curvy, hourglass figure, big bum and distinctly unflat tummy, high waisted jeans just make me look like a pillow tied in the middle with baler twine. But I notice that they make even lithe young girls look dumpy 🤔

Floisme · 05/08/2021 16:19

You're alone.

Floisme · 05/08/2021 16:20

Sorry that was uncalled for Blush But I had to put up with waists at arse crack level for years and years, so I'm loving this while it lasts.

LookdeepintotheParka · 05/08/2021 16:21

Completely agree and I can't stand them either but they are still everywhere! I tried buying some jeans today in town that weren't a) skinny or b) high waisted - it was impossible!!

Bigassbeebuzzbuzz · 05/08/2021 16:22

I hate high waisted. It feels really uncomfortable and almost like maternity trousers.
I prefer a muffin top at least its comfy.

Szyz2020 · 05/08/2021 16:22

You’re not alone! High waists are awful for those of us who are short with a large arse. Totally unflattering and sooo much material around the waist. Low waisted trousers have to come back sometime, please!

SummaLuvin · 05/08/2021 16:22

I am all for high waists and absolutely dread the return of low rise, though I have started to hear/see whispers that teenagers, gen z, are starting to pick them up again, could be good for you as trends typically start with the young.

Agreed.

Now I come to think of it, current trends are fairly crap. High waists and those god-awful voluminous tent-dresses. Can we move on now please? I hope autumn brings something more flattering.

crackofdoom · 05/08/2021 16:25

Can we not just have mid waist, slim fit but not skinny, straight leg jeans with a nice firm front panel that holds all the flobble in PLEASE!

I don't know what they're like now but NYDJ used to be good for that.
Gastropod · 05/08/2021 16:28

You are definitely not alone! High waists really do not suit me and I find them extremely uncomfortable. I have a fairly flat stomach but I find them just horrid to wear. They dig into my tummy and give me real stomach pain and (what feels like) indigestion. Ugh. Take them away forever.

dft6432 · 05/08/2021 16:32

I'm with you. Showing my age but high waisted trousers make me think of Helen Daniels in Neighbours in the 80s. I went into a Levi's shop at the weekend; not a single pair of low-rise jeans. I tried a mid-rise pair on but I don't like pulling them up so they hung far too low.

Please can I find just one pair of low-rise jeans as my current ones won't last much longer before they disintegrate....

nicecheesegromit · 05/08/2021 16:33

I love high waist, they just fit me so well and are flattering for my shape. I'm not in a hurry to give them up any time soon.

IDontThinkSoNo · 05/08/2021 16:52

I love high waisted. I appreciate that’s because I’m a diff shape to you op, shorter legs and longer body so they make my legs look longer. And balance the cropped trouser that is everywhere. Low waist and crop would make me look like my legs were really really short

Leftbutcameback · 05/08/2021 17:07

I find them really uncomfortable and it doesn’t help my IBS either.

ConfusedParticle · 05/08/2021 17:09

It's a great pity there aren't a range of rises.
I don't like very low rise either!

It's ok for fashion, but it would be nice to find a pair of linen trousers or cargo that are mid rise.

God l love
them. So much more comfortable and flattering than low rise which emphasises muffin too and fell down all the time.

woodhill · 05/08/2021 17:11

Prefer it, I'm long waisted and lower rises are uncomfortable and dig in my stomach

Mumsnut · 05/08/2021 17:11

I love them

SwedishEdith · 05/08/2021 17:11

God, I love them. Also long body and shorter legs so feel like my pants actually fit now. And they keep my post-menopausal belly all tucked in. I honestly can't imagine how I kept low-rise jeans on before and I was slimmer then.

ConfusedParticle · 05/08/2021 17:12

Weird, I have IBS too and often had cramps after wearing skinny jeans.

OP posts:
woodhill · 05/08/2021 17:12

I used to find buying trousers a nightmare

ConfusedParticle · 05/08/2021 17:13

Yeh, I see it does depend on our comfort levels and shape. If only we had more choice, like we do with jean leg style. That would be great!

TheChild · 05/08/2021 17:15

I love high waisted clothing, I'm quite tall so high waist for me isn't that high, I definitely need the extra material to keep the wobbly stomach under wraps! I HATE the feeling of trousers riding down and possibly showing off my arse Angry

JuneFromBethesda · 05/08/2021 17:15

For those seeking a range of rises, Esprit are very good.
