Anyone else tired of high waists?

I liked them for a while years ago, probably because they were a welcome variation, but it seems now almost everything is high waisted, whether we like it or not.

It doesn't suit everyone, regardless of body type, so I wish there were more choices between low, mid and high available, especially with trousers.

I have a slightly short torso, so anything super high almost touches my breasts. It isn't flattering and makes me feel like a balloon, even if I am slim. Ive been searching for straight cargo style trousers for months but all of them have super high waists, even jeans aren't backing down a bit yet.
I can't get a sleek look at all, with so much fabric billowing around my gut like that. And since I don't like tight fitting clothes (except for my leggings) it always makes me feel bunched up and fussy.

I know it's all just trends and whatnot, but this one aint for me.

Tell me im not alone! Grin

It'll happen Coogee. Your time will come again and I'll be back in dresses and pretending I like them. Grin

I am tall and have quite a straight up and down athletic sort of figure (imagine a heavier Kate Middleton) and high waisted stuff looks awful on me, it seems to emphasise my lack of curves and makes me look chunky when I'm actually pretty slim.

I've taken to buying jeans on eBay because they have older styles that suit me better. A mid-rise boyfriend style is my best friend as I'm quite a casual dresser.

I think if you are curvy or hourglass then high waist can give you that tiny waist/big bum look that I'd love to have, but they don't really suit everyone else.

AColdDuncanGoodhew · 06/08/2021 13:23

Neeeeveeeeeer be sick of it Grin

I’m a 12/14 hourglass. Big boobs, slimmer waist, big belly, big arse, big thighs and high waisted is the only thing that 1) makes me look semi decent and 2) is super comfortable

Anything lower and the pinched muffin top is real (and painful)

woodhill · 06/08/2021 13:32

Yes and builders bum as the waist isn't high enough whereas high waists are mainly normal waist on me apart from M& S skinnies which are a bit too high

BatshitCrazyWoman · 06/08/2021 13:39

I'm an hourglass, short and slim, and high waisted jeans/trousers look awful, and are uncomfortable (waistband digging into my lower ribs is horrible).

I think most people look a bit fatter in them. And they look dreadful from behind. I don't understand them making legs look longer - on a lot of people they seem to make the length of waist to crotch and leg length the same, so people look weirdly proportioned.

Maireas · 06/08/2021 19:27

I was never keen on the low rise. Remember the fashion for showing the top of your thong?.(shudders)

woodhill · 07/08/2021 10:40

Yes, those awful thongs, so uncomfortable and who wants to see them

thinkingaboutitall · 07/08/2021 10:44

I love high waisted and I’m short. I’m a slim pear so it’s the most flattering. I’m early 20s tho so would usually wear with a crop top which kind of diminishes the extremely high waistband look you mention

thinkingaboutitall · 07/08/2021 10:47

High waisted jeans are known for making your bum better and to give a more hourglass shape by emphasising the waist. So in 2021 beauty aesthetic terms, where having a big bum is the trend, looking “fatter” in the bum is actually the desired effect.

Lovemusic33 · 07/08/2021 10:55

@Floisme

Sorry that was uncalled for Blush But I had to put up with waists at arse crack level for years and years, so I'm loving this while it lasts.
Same, I was fed up of buying jeans that showed my ass crack or sat on my wide hips, found them uncomfortable. I like the high waist 🤣 especially now I’m getting older and my body shape is changing (getting fat 🤣). I still see plenty of no high waist trousers in the shops, new look and next do lots of styles of jeans and trousers as well as high waist.
happydays2345 · 07/08/2021 11:03

Blooming hate them, size 10, with classic hourglass, 36, 25, 36 and they make me feel sick. Bring back low rise!!!!

Seeress · 07/08/2021 16:12

I love a high waist! I'm size 10 hourglass but my problem area is my tummy and high waists help me avoid the fat rollover. Long may they reign!

Ozberry · 07/08/2021 16:26

Anyone else find they slip down and give you a droopy gusset?

It's not the bum they make look fat, they seem to make most people look like they have a bit of a belly. They make your bum look flat!
noblegreenk · 07/08/2021 16:48

I agree. I'm a fairly slim apple shape (size 10-12) and high-waisted clothes aren't very flattering on me. They emphasise my tummy and make my bum look droopy even though it isn't! Plus my legs are fairly long and high waists accentuate this making me look like I'm wearing stilts all the time.

Inthetropics · 07/08/2021 18:00

Whenever the day comes when i find a medium rise with straight legs jeans I plan on buying AT LEAST 3, two indigo and one a diferent collour.

Why does it always have to be something extreme? Skinny, very high waist, very low waist, very loose legs, short legs.... What happened to the idea of something more balanced and basic?

LilyGlobe · 07/08/2021 19:13

I hate them. I have a really short torso so why I thought buying high waisted jeans was a good idea, I’ll never know Grin They look dreadful on me and dig in to my stomach.

PickAChew · 07/08/2021 19:19

No. Give me them all.

PickAChew · 07/08/2021 19:20

That's what belts are for.
KnitFastDieWarm · 07/08/2021 19:47

@ZealAndArdour where do you buy your trousers? I love the sound of this look and am a similar shape to you.

Mostly ASOS. It’s a bit complicated for me as I’m 6ft so I just get what I can when I can and hope for the best with the length!

RampantIvy · 07/08/2021 21:02

@Ozberry

No. Low rise does this, but I am a pear shape with defined waist and hips.
dft6432 · 07/08/2021 21:26

I think I tried on a pair exactly like this in the Levi store this week. Obviously I can't remember the style number which would be vaguely helpful but they were definitely mid rise and I'm pretty sure they were straight leg too.

MarleneDietrichsSmile · 07/08/2021 22:14

I have a short body and long legs, in high waisted jeans I look like I am 80% bottom and leg, 10% body and 10% head Grin

I really look like I’ve been put together wrong, like the bit between brooms and hips was not added, by mistake

I like loose fitting trousers that hang, not sit, but hang from my hips

Bromeliad · 07/08/2021 22:39

I hate them, I'm very short of torso so they sit on the bottom of my ribs. They hurt! So frustrating.
