Anyone else tired of high waists?

I liked them for a while years ago, probably because they were a welcome variation, but it seems now almost everything is high waisted, whether we like it or not.

It doesn't suit everyone, regardless of body type, so I wish there were more choices between low, mid and high available, especially with trousers.

I have a slightly short torso, so anything super high almost touches my breasts. It isn't flattering and makes me feel like a balloon, even if I am slim. Ive been searching for straight cargo style trousers for months but all of them have super high waists, even jeans aren't backing down a bit yet.
I can't get a sleek look at all, with so much fabric billowing around my gut like that. And since I don't like tight fitting clothes (except for my leggings) it always makes me feel bunched up and fussy.

I know it's all just trends and whatnot, but this one aint for me.

Tell me im not alone! Grin

@Bigassbeebuzzbuzz

I hate high waisted. It feels really uncomfortable and almost like maternity trousers. I prefer a muffin top at least its comfy.
Yes! Yes! I hate high waists. They add bulk and make me look huge around the middle. Plus I can't work out what kind of top to wear with them - but even if I could, I wouldn't because I find them so uncomfortable.
newnortherner111 · 05/08/2021 17:31

I agree with you OP. It does not suit many people, just seems yet another fashion designed to get you to spend money.

MrsTophamHat · 05/08/2021 17:33

I'm long body and short legs too so they feel more comfy for me. I do want more support at the front though to help with the mum tum

Luckystar1 · 05/08/2021 17:35

I feel like I get cystitis every time I wear high waisted jeans?! I don’t dislike the style, just the result!

Bluntness100 · 05/08/2021 17:41

I’m with you too. Can’t stand them and honestly think they look awful on anyone who isn’t a slither of a teen and even then it’s pushing it.

Isn't that the whole purpose of fashion?

This is what l thought about low rise

Me too.
I probably won't have a waist for much longer so high rise couldn't have come around at a better time for me.

Blue5238 · 05/08/2021 18:00

Long legs and short body and I hate high waists. I'm slim but they just make me feel and look fat and frumpy.

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 05/08/2021 18:04

I hate them, so uncomfortable and they add bulk to even the slimmest woman, don’t get me started on the view from the back, acres of arse, awful.

freelions · 05/08/2021 18:11

Sorry no sympathy here. Having tolerated around 20 years of jeans that barely covered my bum crack or pubes I bloody loving the fact high waists are back in fashion!

I have a long torso (from crotch to waist) and high rises actually sit on my natural waist and are so much more comfortable for me than low rise

Hollyhead · 05/08/2021 18:15

So envious of all you long waisted people. Another high waist hater here - it’s so disconcerting sitting down and the waistband of your trousers touching your boobs. And I’m an 8-10, they make me look at least a 12-14.

Hollyhead · 05/08/2021 18:15

Just to add I didn’t like super low rise either.

KatyS36 · 05/08/2021 18:18

Love high waist. Long torso also here so they actually fit!

BuffySummersReportingforSanity · 05/08/2021 18:19

Nope. Love them. Sorry.

dft6432 · 05/08/2021 18:20

Appreciate that I'm biased, liking low rise jeans, but I honestly don't think high waisted trousers flatter many people, even lithe teenagers. They make most people look like they have a tummy (even when they don't), plus some people seem to end up with a slight camel toe and bottom cheeks hanging out the bottom when they're shorts.

Then again, I don't really understand shaving off your eyebrows and drawing them in higher, so I'm not sure my view counts for much as far as fashion is concerned.

Boogiewoody · 05/08/2021 18:27

I hate them too. I suffer from bloating and can't bear anything tight/rigid around my waist. I agree that they even make teenagers look frumpy and bigger than they are.

Floisme · 05/08/2021 18:31

I will happily trade some tummy bulge (which I can camouflage ) for the discomfort of permanently feeling my jeans are falling down, and wondering if my arse is showing every time I lean forward (not to mention unwittingly copping an eyeful of other arses too).

SunSeaSurfGin · 05/08/2021 18:34

I love high waisted trousers my shape means hipsters don't look great on me and I always end up with a builders bum Blush and they always feel really tight and uncomfortable compared to high waisted clothes

This is me too. Remember the 90s & 00s and trousers feeling like they wanted to be pulled down as the crotch was so uncomfortable but there being no length to the waist to do this itms
SunSeaSurfGin · 05/08/2021 18:35

@JuneFromBethesda

For those seeking a range of rises, Esprit are very good.
Second this and they have a good range of leg lengths too
AndTime · 05/08/2021 18:41

I love high waists they keep my tummy firmly tucked away and I don't worry about my arse showing when I sit down. I am bigger round the tummy so mid rise to fit my belly in without a muffin top would gape at the back.

Coogee · 05/08/2021 19:02

I don’t like the look of them on me and don’t think they are particularly flattering on a lot of other people either. So far I have managed to avoid anything high waisted. Low or ultra low suits me.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 05/08/2021 19:17

I think they are much more flattering than low rise. They elongate the legs.

Low rise made me look stumpy. And I’m 5ft 8 with a 33” leg

Pinkclarko · 05/08/2021 19:18

I’m short waisted and honestly just can’t wear trousers at all really. Low rise, high rise..they all look shit on me Grin
