Anyone else tired of high waists?

I liked them for a while years ago, probably because they were a welcome variation, but it seems now almost everything is high waisted, whether we like it or not.

It doesn't suit everyone, regardless of body type, so I wish there were more choices between low, mid and high available, especially with trousers.

I have a slightly short torso, so anything super high almost touches my breasts. It isn't flattering and makes me feel like a balloon, even if I am slim. Ive been searching for straight cargo style trousers for months but all of them have super high waists, even jeans aren't backing down a bit yet.
I can't get a sleek look at all, with so much fabric billowing around my gut like that. And since I don't like tight fitting clothes (except for my leggings) it always makes me feel bunched up and fussy.

I know it's all just trends and whatnot, but this one aint for me.

Tell me im not alone! Grin

Doesn’t suit me at all. I hear you op

StarlightLady · 06/08/2021 06:16

The way things are going, l think someone may as well introduce a pair of trousers with a built in bra! 😂

onelittlefrog · 06/08/2021 06:20

I don't like them, they make me feel frumpy. Much prefer mid rise. I don't struggle to find them though - are you only looking in the biggest high street shops or something? Just shop around, you can easily find other stuff online

mylovelydd · 06/08/2021 07:28

I've always despised high waisted jeans and have always been baffled by the idea that they somehow disguise a 'mum tum' or are even remotely flattering. Even at my skinniest if I tried on high waisted jeans they made me look fat!
Low rise however makes me feel skinny and sexier and imho it's far easier to hide a belly with a top with low rise.
I wish whichever idiots 'decide' what we are allowed to wear would stop treating us like cookie cutter women and give us a choice!

Morgan12 · 06/08/2021 07:32

I have stopped wearing jeans altogether. No shape flatters me at all as a shortish pear. Can't wait till autumn so I can live in tights and dresses.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 06/08/2021 07:34

Yes, get the high waists to fuck. Mum jeans....fuck off, super high waists with flares....fuck off. Give me back jeans that do up under my belly button, hopd my belly in a bit instead of giving me a bulge bigger than I actually have there, and make my love handles a bit more streamlined.
I once again ordered and tried a couple of pairs of mum jeans the other day in the hopes that somehow they may fit this time.....nope, not a fucking chance! They look frumpy. They make my legs look stumpy, and at 5 ft 10 they are anything but, and they make me look really fat. I'm carrying a bit more weight after having a baby bit this is ridiculous.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 06/08/2021 07:36

As much as I sympathise with everyone, I am glad to see its not juste that feels like this because irl it feels like I'm the only one.

Floisme · 06/08/2021 07:48

I love those pics ZealAndArdour.

And yes, the Paris Hilton take on low rise was an extreme but the high street wasn't far behind - I'm always picking up jeans in charity shops then realising the zip's about 2 inches high. (There's where you can still get your low rise by the way - loads of them.)

I'm fairly sanguine about most cyclical trends but, as far as I'm concerned, ultra low rise was the worst. I ended up wearing jeans under dresses and then just dresses. I don't even much like dresses.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 06/08/2021 07:55

I love high rise - it suits me. I’m a 10 hourglass shape and they emphasis my waist and bum and skim my thighs. However, the trouble with high rise is that it needs to fit both your waist and hips and the rise needs to be right. Low rise only needs to fit your hips as they’re nowhere near your waist. It’s much harder to get a decent fit on the high street with the extra variables. You shouldn’t have a belly pouch of extra fabric or the waistband on your bra.

Holothane · 06/08/2021 07:56

Love them so comfy on hips.

Couchbettato · 06/08/2021 08:11

I love high waisters. Holds everything in and the band sits above the belly after a large buffet. 😁

RampantIvy · 06/08/2021 08:12

Being a pear shape I find that low rise cut in on my widest part and are very uncomfortable.

We are all different shapes and sizes and there should be style to suit everyone, not just as fashion dictates.

gogohm · 06/08/2021 08:13

Completely agree they don't suit everyone especially those of us in larger sizes. Thankfully mid rise jeans are still widely available, I rarely wear other trousers and haven't bought any for years

gogohm · 06/08/2021 08:17

@crackofdoom

I think normal women need to design clothes, I would pay good money for jeans like you described, can I add decent depth to pockets and thicker weight denim like men's jeans too

Coogee · 06/08/2021 08:18

It suited me. I still wear them. Unless they come back soon, I might have to find a charity shop to replenish my wardrobe.

inappropriateraspberry · 06/08/2021 08:19

High waists are great when stood up, but I find them so uncomfortable when I sit down! They dig in to my tummy and under my ribs.

Floisme · 06/08/2021 08:23

Do it Coogee - there are loads of them round here.

Blueskyemily · 06/08/2021 08:23

I love high waists. I have a long torso and short legs though, like PPs. Before reading this thread I didn't realise that this is probably why they suit me and I like them!

I'm really not sure I can ever go back to low waists now.

Oh I love them! So flattering on me 🤣

MaryLennoxsScowl · 06/08/2021 08:59

This thread initially made me anxious - what if clothes designers read it and stopped making high-waisted clothes? - but then I remembered that designers pay no attention whatsoever to the opinions of customers so I might be safe!

Coogee · 06/08/2021 09:32

*I always felt as though my bottom was pulling them down and there was nothing to keep them up.

Some brands had a very low front and a higher back. Miss Sixty are/were good for this and are probably my favourite.

Floisme · 06/08/2021 09:59

Nooo, Miss Sixty were evil Grin

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 06/08/2021 10:27

Coogee, low waists used to pull my pants down!

Coogee · 06/08/2021 11:07

I must have a funny bum because my pants stay up.

Donations of unloved Miss 60 low rise jeans gratefully received. Especially TY boot cut extra low rise. I need to be ready for when I am in fashion again.

If it warms up, I might dig out my Miss 60 mini skirts with built in knickers. Grin
