Is there a perfume/aftershave that you can’t BEAR

Inspired by the other thread on fragrances.

What perfumes give you the boke?

Whilst not strictly a perfume, I picked up a can of Impulse ‘hint of musk’ recently and it reminded me of mothballs and net curtains - bleurgh.

@Ilikeknitting

Anais Anais. It was launched when I was a nursing college in 1980. I was pregnant, everytime I smelled it I wanted to vomit. The lavatories always stunk of Anais Anais. 20 years later it still made me feel nauseous.

(I never qualified as a nurse.)

I started at nursing school in 1980 as well. All the nurses used to wear Anais Anais. The ward handover in the morning used to reek of the stuff. No idea how the patients must have felt. I didn't qualify as a nurse eitherSmile

Chanel no 5 and any 'cheap' overpowering smelling stuff. Celebrity endorsed perfumes tend to have a similar cheap pong

TroysMammy · 01/08/2021 18:42

Rive gauche a woman I worked with used it so much it made me sneeze and feel nauseous.

CurryLover55 · 01/08/2021 18:42

Not sure of the exact fragrance but it was an FCUK body spray worn by a colleague. I don’t think I have ever been so affected by a smell! It would have been great for dieting because it made me feel incredibly sick! In the end, I pretended I was allergic to it & she stopped wearing it to work. Just hideous!

Closely followed by Angel

tsmainsqueeze · 01/08/2021 19:12

Youth dew , if i smell this on someone in a shop / supermarket i make sure i avoid them so i don't smell it again.
I absolutely can't stand it , it is my number one hated smell of everything let alone perfume !

It’s one of my favourites 😢

ExtremelyDisorganised · 01/08/2021 19:19

My hatred of Rive Gauche goes back to childhood when my mum used to drench herself in it if we were going out for a meal, then we'd get in the car and it would give me a headache. I sniffed some in a shop a few years ago and nearly threw up.

ThanksMateThanksMate · 01/08/2021 19:32

All my instant puke ones are because the wearers would overdose on them.
Dolce & Gabbana Woman
Amarige
Lou Lou (also didn't like that person so extra nausea)
And yes, Joop.

I wear Chanel no 5! I love Fahrenheit.

Jimmy choo the original .. a woman sat on plane next to me a few years back and it was so strong I felt ill.. thankfully she moved anyway .. I’ve hated it ever since🤢

cavalier · 01/08/2021 19:54

The trouble with Angel … if you over spray it’s awful but if you put the tiniest bit on … it’s lush ..

Geordieoldgirl · 01/08/2021 20:30

Giorgio and Poison are strong and disgusting. The worst by far is Rochas’ ‘Femme’. Absolutely vile

EllaPaella · 01/08/2021 20:33

Alien 🤮🤢 Smells like toilet cleaner to me

CurryLover55 · 01/08/2021 20:57

I really like Rive Gauche

MrsSchadenfreude · 01/08/2021 21:04

Oscar de la Renta. Reminds me of a drink and drugs fuelled lost weekend in my wild and mis-spent youth. Ended up having a threesome with two work colleagues which made Monday morning in the office a bit awkward.

Also Joop and Obsession for Men, which remind me of an ex.

Giorgio Beverly Hills
We used to travel a lot when I was a child (my dads job took us abroad). The aeroplane’s seat back magazine always used to contain a perfume sample (those 1980/90s sticky paper strip things that you’d open & rub on your skin). Cue 400+ people all opening Giorgio Beverly Hills at the same time, and being stuck on a long haul flight with that wafting around like a toxic cloud. Cannot stand it. Makes me feel nauseous to this day. Bleugh.

@Lizzie Creed is the brand not a specific scent.
