Is there a perfume/aftershave that you can’t BEAR

What perfumes give you the boke?

Whilst not strictly a perfume, I picked up a can of Impulse ‘hint of musk’ recently and it reminded me of mothballs and net curtains - bleurgh.

Two, but because of bad associations. Aromatics by Clinique (which I used to love) and L’egoiste. The skank my dh was shagging wore the first and she bought him a huge bottle of the second.
Angel on most people, but my dd wears it and it smells lovely.

It goes to show everybody is different! O de Lancôme is one of my faves, lemon fresh on me. Also Obsession is lovely on me.

Santal 33 made me gag - I had to have a shower and scrub it off my skin to get rid of the smell. Tom Ford Black Opium gives me a hideous migrane. I used to love Alien till I got pregnant and it made me throw up...can't bear it now.

@SocksAndTheCity santal 33 was one of the most foul things I've ever smelled! I can't get my head round how anyone would like it. And dear god does it linger.

D&G Light Blue... my sister used to wear it, I couldn't be in the same room as her when I was pregnant if she had it on

Anais Anais.
It was launched when I was a nursing college in 1980. I was pregnant, everytime I smelled it I wanted to vomit. The lavatories always stunk of Anais Anais. 20 years later it still made me feel nauseous.

(I never qualified as a nurse.)

I used to work with someone who wore so much of it, it was so strong it filled the whole tearoom where we worked. Awful. Then my mum bought it and wore it for ages, I was horrified!

CK Euphoria - the reason is probably TMI!

The first time I ever did anything with a boy it absolutely stunk when he finished (I didn’t know it wasn’t to smell like that). I panicked my parents would recognise the smell so I sprayed loads of Euphoria around the room and now I associate with the original smell.

My ex used to spray the chocolate lynx to disguise the fact he had been for a poo so I can’t stand that either.

All of the perfumes that smell like sweeties (which is 90% of all perfumes created in the last decade IMO)

I'm weird and I don't like any perfumes or aftershaves. The smell of perfume makes my nose wrinkle up, I can only liken it to walking into a cloud of someone's exhaled smoke.

I don't even like the smell of deodorant (although I wear a mildly scented one).

It's not that I don't love strong smells - I love the smell of a forest, grass and weirdly, soil 😂

Chanel No 5 - smells like cat pee

Opium, Alien, Obsession, Poison - they all make me cough. I don't know what the ingredient is that does that, but it's a heavy sweet cloying disgusting smell that catches my throat and makes my eyes water as well as inducing coughs. I was on the tube yesterday and someone stood next to me wearing one of those smells - I thought I was going to have to get off the train, I was coughing so much ( through my mask, of course!).
And it's a similar smell in Oliver Bonas - I actually can't go in that shop any more. I'd love to know what the ingredient is that triggers this reaction.

I used to go into my local pub before the lockdowns, and there were about four or five middle aged paunchy men, who always came in smelling of Joop. I always wondered if they thought it made them smell sexy, now they were older blokes. Older men used to wear BRUT in the old days, now these men think they have gone upmarket a bit.

It's what they say used to wear in their youth but they have never moved on

Amarige by Givenchy. Sprayed it on once as a sample in a department store and could NOT scrub the stench off. It’s pretty powerful, I’ll give it that. Revolting.
I love Coco by Chanel but it always gives a sick feeling plus headache so can’t wear it.
