Is there a perfume/aftershave that you can’t BEAR

Inspired by the other thread on fragrances.

What perfumes give you the boke?

Whilst not strictly a perfume, I picked up a can of Impulse ‘hint of musk’ recently and it reminded me of mothballs and net curtains - bleurgh.

Youth Dew
Knowing
White Linen
Eternity
Samsara

Equally awful

EverythingDelegated · 01/08/2021 07:43

I love Alien and always get compliments, maybe they are asking me what it is so they don't buy it!

This - I am often tempted to ask people what their horrendous perfumes are so I can avoid trying them or post on threads like this about them but I am a bad liar and would feel mean. How do you find out diplomatically? I went to the pub recently with some friends and thank goodness for all the doors and windows being wide open as one of them was wearing a headache-inducer, it was familiar but I couldn't name it.

Angel!! Can smell it a mile off

vegas888 · 01/08/2021 08:04

I love black opium, I don’t understand the hate 😬

vegas888 · 01/08/2021 08:08

@LizzieVereker

All of the perfumes that smell like sweeties (which is 90% of all perfumes created in the last decade IMO)

Creed. Eau de Chav

Creed is over £200 bottle, hardly chavvy
annie335 · 01/08/2021 08:23

Clinique Aromatics. Nauseating!

Onlinedilema · 01/08/2021 08:38

Joop for me, an ex wore it and it smelt awful on them. Poison and most Dior fragrances.

Onlinedilema · 01/08/2021 08:44

Old Spice too and I agree about Eden.

LynetteScavo · 01/08/2021 08:45

I'd forgotten about white Musk and Youth Sew! Both horrible! (I do quite like Joop for men though- reminds me of Germany in the early 90's)

Countmeout · 01/08/2021 08:52

Shalimar years ago.
Now Jo Malone Red Roses smells like something for the toilet.
And I sprayed her peony and blush suede on the other day at my daughter‘s when I’d gone out without any and hated it couldn’t wait to get it off. It was yuck. There’s others of hers I love though.

WorldsBestBoss · 01/08/2021 08:54

Sauvage aftershave. So many people love it so I bought for DH for Christmas without smelling it.
It is absolutely repellant. I can't go near him when he's wearing it.

Hoorayhenryyah · 01/08/2021 09:06

Angel, it’s so strong and overpowering. Makes me feel nauseous

Craftycorvid · 01/08/2021 09:09

From the eighties: Giorgio, Beverley Hills and Lou Lou both gave me a sick headache, as did Samsara and Poison. Not a fan of Chloe Narcisse either, but like the original fragrance.

Some of the ones that crop up on this thread actually remind me of good times - or significant ones - but I wouldn’t wear again. I liked Alien but it now has ‘associations’ and if I smell it on someone, it’s a bit weird for me. Sunflowers takes me back to a very strange point in my life, too. Eden is really sickly and just takes me back to being a student in the 90s!

I still like quite spicy fragrances as anything too delicate just seems to disappear on me.

Neondisco · 01/08/2021 09:20

I bought a bottle of sunflowers perfume for a tenner when I was buying some makeup from beauty Bay. It reminds me of my grandma in the 90s when I was very little.

I love it! It's light and doesn't last long, but it was a tenner so I'd expect that. I normally wear more old fashioned heavy perfume so it's different for me. I honestly don't give a shit if people like it.

I would wxho hating angel it smells like pounds hop kids perfume to me, but I can't imagine anyone who loves it would care.

Jericha · 01/08/2021 09:29

1 million and lady million, people just wearing it makes me feel sick
Kenzo amour, I bought this thinking it was gorgeous in the shop. Once I got home it just reminded me of my scented nail polish remover mixed with baby powder

BikeRunSki · 01/08/2021 09:31

Poison
Opium

LadyEloise · 01/08/2021 09:36

Sakura7 · 01/08/2021 09:38

Issay Miyaki - really can't stand this one!
Chanel No. 5
Angel

thisismyhill · 01/08/2021 09:49

My husband got a bottle of Millions when I was pregnant and it made me sick every single time I got a whiff of it. It got to the point that even seeing the bottle made me sick and this was when it just came out so it was on posters bloody everywhere! Even now years later I'm feeling nauseous just typing this.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 01/08/2021 10:40

Anything Dior
Sunflowers
Anais Anais
Anything flowery really

Love heavy musky or sweet perfumes

Blossomtoes · 01/08/2021 12:36

Poison. It makes me feel sick. Oh and Bandit, I was almost sick on my shoes when I smelt that.

JMAngel1 · 01/08/2021 13:48

Samsara.
I once made a co-worker go home and wash because I couldn't stop vomiting. We were in a 2m x 2m space in the dead heat of summer and I genuinely thought I was going to pass out.
Just the memory of Samsara gives me shivers of horror.

goose1964 · 01/08/2021 14:00

Flower by Kenzo, but I don't have many that I dislike.

Deathraystare · 01/08/2021 15:59

Any of the Calvin Klein fly killer stuff. Houbigant Quelques something or other (really sweet- infact any of the sweet stuff). Beverly Hills - though a colleague thought my Liz Earle 100 smelt like it! Revlon intimate and Moondrops both smell 'Catty' plus Tweed does as well.

Deathraystare · 01/08/2021 16:00

Oh and Angel and Alien. It is everywhere!!!
