Is there a perfume/aftershave that you can’t BEAR

Inspired by the other thread on fragrances.

What perfumes give you the boke?

Whilst not strictly a perfume, I picked up a can of Impulse ‘hint of musk’ recently and it reminded me of mothballs and net curtains - bleurgh.

Jo Malone Lime Basil Mandarine gives me a headache and makes me feel queasy.

Odisia · 31/07/2021 20:09

Issy Miyake
Angel

Geamhradh · 31/07/2021 20:11

Anything containing Oudh or cumin notes. One of my best friends loves a niche fragrance which, frankly, smells like armpits on her. It's the cumin.

Chloe Narcisse and Lancome Tresor always made me feel headachy, and I don't like the "pink mingers" so popular with teenagers today. Sickly sweet gourmands.

Pombearsforthewin · 31/07/2021 20:24

Chloe Narcisse actually sticks in my throat… can’t bear it! I also second Chanel number 5 and a really old blast from the past is Lentheric Tweed… old lady perfume if ever there was one!

dundermifflinthisispam1 · 31/07/2021 20:24

Angel and Armani diamonds are both migraine/vomite inducing. I also can’t stand Armani Si which everyone else seems to love but to me smells like wine breath and dirt.

Lightningrain · 31/07/2021 20:25

I really dislike Opium and MIL wears it quite often.

Also not keen on CK Euphoria and dislike most heavy sweet perfumes.

DrCoconut · 31/07/2021 20:25

All of them. They give me migraine.

RoseAddict · 31/07/2021 20:28

I can’t bear any perfume now but I remember as a teen loving Eternity for men! I used to go in the shop and spray my coat sleeve every time it wore off! Seemed to last for ages

Evenstar · 31/07/2021 20:28

Poison, I used to have to take my asthma inhaler if I was exposed to it for long. Vile smell, it doesn’t seem as popular now thankfully.

DoItAfraid · 31/07/2021 20:29

Thierry Muglar (sp?) - Angel

I have such a visceral reaction to it; it literally turns my stomach.

brokenbiscuitsx · 31/07/2021 20:33

@Lilye88

I honestly thought I was the only person on the planet who hated Angel as everybody I know loves it.

I also can’t stand Chanel no 5, smells cheap to me 🙈

Another vote for Chanel no5.

I’ve tried many times to like it, it being a classic and all, but it just smells … old and cheap. I don’t understand how it’s so popular.

SirenSays · 31/07/2021 20:35

I once went on a date with a woman who loved to go on and on about how posh she was. She started rambling on about her Chanel No 5, I assume she wanted me to think it was amazing and expensive. I didn't have the heart to tell her my perfume cost more and she smelled like my mother 🤐🤭

magicstar1 · 31/07/2021 20:40

Poison gives me an instant headache. My ex housemate used to wear it and I had to ask her to spray it after she left the house Envy
DH must have a funny body chemistry as he’s tried some aftershaves and they literally smell like dog shit on him…others are amazing.

WhatIsThisPlease · 31/07/2021 20:41

Poison, because it's vile.

Eternity because it reminds me of my ex MIL

schnubbins · 31/07/2021 20:41

Alien absolutely awful stuff
Youth Dew
Georgio Beverly Hills
Poison
Roma from laura Biagiotti
All make me feel positively ill

EccentricaGalumbits · 31/07/2021 20:44

White Linen sets off a sneezing fit and gives me a headache but nothing smells worse to me than Youth Dew.

Deadringer · 31/07/2021 20:44

Anything flowery, i hated Anais Anais when it was all the rage. I see Poison mentioned a lot on here, i never liked it but two of my workmates always wore Poison, it smelled lovely on one of them and awful on the other so it depends i guess.

EverythingDelegated · 31/07/2021 20:45

Poison (the original one)
Giorgio Beverly Hills
Rive Gauche

They all give me a headache and nausea.

BettyBe · 31/07/2021 20:46

Eden
Chloe Narcisse

BabyMoonPie · 31/07/2021 20:46

Abercrombie and Fitch's fragrance. It really turns my stomach

TheYellowOne · 31/07/2021 20:55

Coco Mademoiselle. And yet I love the original Coco Chanel - the one in the black and gold box. But Coco Mademoiselle smells so powdery and sickly to me and gets caught in my throat. I'm clearly in a minority as I smell it on a lot of women!

SocksAndTheCity · 31/07/2021 20:55

I know it's much sought after, but Santal 33.

I bought myself a sample of it after reading all the adoration and it smelt so foul I lasted an hour before I had to scrub it off and wash the dress I had been wearing. The only thing I can describe that comes close would be if a whole head of celery was wrapped in plastic and left to rot in a warm room, and I almost had to leave a cinema a week or so ago because somebody in the screen was wearing it 🤮

I actually came on to say Joop, but that was because I had a very unpleasant ex who always wore it. I didn't know it was generally rank as well as specifically Grin

Lanaa · 31/07/2021 20:56

Angel
Clinique Aromatics Elixir
Avon Far Away.
Impulse and other cheap body sprays (although I'd pay good money for a can of Impulse O2!)

All the above are truly disgusting scents which seem to linger more than any other.

MrsSnitchnose · 31/07/2021 21:01

DKNY Be Delicious. Makes me feel physically sick

Waitinginmycar · 31/07/2021 21:03

Eternity for men - makes me gag

Not a fan of Angel, Sunflowers, Davidoff Cool Water or Chanel 5 either
