Ah thanks @TempleofZoom - I really love that skirt so goo to have sizing intel 😎

ToastCosILoveIt · 20/07/2021 18:49

Many of the Trustpilot reviews bemoan the lack of Toast website reviews which were so handy in giving info on size and fit among other things.

ToastCosILoveIt · 20/07/2021 19:00

I had a delivery of three things yesterday, all going back.

The lattice print poplin dress - the website said I was a size 10 and indeed I am except in the bust area which is a tad tight. If anyone has a size 12 that they are sending back or want to sell, pm me!

The check cotton linen easy jacket and matching trousers in size 10 - trousers a little snug around the waist but huge elsewhere (I had ordered the size 12 trousers which were huge) and the jacket was too big too. worn together, they gave an appearance of wearing some smart PJs.

Snailhaterz · 20/07/2021 19:57

Occasional poster here! I bought the fine stripe shirt dress www.toa.st/products/fine-stripe-cotton-shirt-dress-blue-ecru?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_dHA9Kjy8QIVyMLtCh3NeQXREAQYAyABEgJWzvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds in the sale and wore it today in London - I had meetings, trips on the tube, and a bit of time in an gallery. It was a bit crumpled by the time I got home, and was perhaps a little warm, but I really love it! Useful pockets for phone, mask and tube pass, respectable enough for meetings and casual enough for the rest of the day.

Somewhat unrelated post, but as Toast sell Birkenstocks, I thought you lot might have thoughts.
I have one pair of Birkenstock clogs (the closed toe style) that have the soft footbed. They are super comfy. I bought a pair of the Milano style from Toast. Love the style but they are the regular footbed which I have not worn before. They feel really uncomfortable in comparison to the soft footbed. Not just harder, I could get over that as I guess they will soften a bit, but the toe bar seems much more obvious and bothersome, and the arch feels uncomfortable.
So my question is, for those who have worn both types of footbed, do I keep them and persevere, or do I return them?
I usually wear Saltwaters all summer long, and find them super comfy. Mine are on their last legs and I fancied a change, but maybe I should just stick with what I know.
Any thoughts much appreciated!

AmethystMoonShine · 20/07/2021 21:13

@ScottishMouse I can't help with the birkies question exactly...however I am an avid saltwater fan....I have an embarrassing number of pairs and live in them all summer.....anyway, my point is that I cannot tolerate the classic birkie footbed, I find it painful to be honest. So often wondered if it's to do with foot type/shape. I have a friend that hate saltwater sandals and finds them really uncomfortable, but lives in birkies...

Saurus72 · 20/07/2021 21:16

I can only wear soft bed Birks @ScottishMouse. I have some of the normal ones and they’re ok for the garden but not more than that. I have 3 pairs of Saltwaters, I love them but I find the sole too thin to walk far in on pavements (all good on grass/beach ).

However, have you seen these new (I think) Saltwaters with a thicker sole? www.salt-watersandals.com/gb-en/boardwalk-tan-women.html

Very tempted.

Saurus72 · 20/07/2021 21:20

@Snailhaterz that’s a lovely dress! So difficult to envisage it without seeing it on a model. I’m very jealous of your day - such a long time since I’ve had a day like that, sounds really good.

ScottishMouse · 20/07/2021 21:28

Thanks @AmethystMoonShine and @Saurus72. I think you might be right. I can walk for days in my saltwaters, but I have a pal who only wears birks and tried saltwaters but couldn’t get on with them.
And yes, I have seen the new ones. I am quite tempted by those too. And maybe they would last a bit longer too (although my current ones are 4 years old and have been worn pretty much every day from may-sep for those years, so I can’t complain).

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 21/07/2021 08:14

My Toast refund has arrived today, hopefully the items I ordered last week might arrive as well.

ScottishMouse · 21/07/2021 08:36

Birkenstocks are definitely going back. I have woken up with a really sore patch on the sole of one foot, and that is just from trying them on for a few mins! I don’t have the patience for breaking in shoes!

ilovecherries · 21/07/2021 08:46

Me neither. I wince at those threads telling you all you need are plasters and a thick pair of socks. I’ve had a lot of surgery on my right foot and leg and no way will I tolerate blisters, sore bits or rubbed patches. Makes for limited choices but life is too short - I’m just trying to build up to socks with sandals and my heaven will be complete 😀
balkanscot · 21/07/2021 10:02

Hello Toasties,

I am eyeing up La Botte Gardiane Pac Sandals in tan and was wondering if any of you have bought these. According to reviews they come up quite narrow/small. I am a true size 38 (5) and am dithering whether to go for 38 or 39. Thanks!

I SO wanted the Tala dress to come up in sale, alas, it was not to be. Couldn’t quite bring myself to part with £160 for a summer dress (despite the current heatwave in Scotland), plus they are out of stock in size 8. 10 would have been too big.

balkanscot · 21/07/2021 10:07

Sandals

Tala dress

ToastCosILoveIt · 21/07/2021 10:24

@balkanscot, I have both of the Tala dresses. They definitely come up big and you would need to go down a size. On two separate occassions I have been out in the dress and a stranger has stopped me to admire it. I hope one comes up in your size, perhaps on EBay.

I can't advise on the sandals as I don't have them.

ScottishMouse · 21/07/2021 10:29

I tried those sandals last summer @balkanscot and they were indeed very narrow. I have a slightly wider foot, but not crazy wide (for example, Saltwaters are totally fine on me, and my recent Birkenstock experiment involved the narrower footbed which was fine). I could barely get my foot in. I am a 38 and tried a 38, but I’m mot sure I could comment on the length as I couldn’t my get my foot in properly, and it was a year ago so I don’t remember if they seemed particularly short or long.
You’ve made me wonder about trying them in a 39 now…they are very lovely….

Gonegrey31 · 21/07/2021 11:39

Balkanscot I bought the Tala dress at a full price earlier this summer - I am nearly always a size 8 in Toast but this size was far too big for me (particularly around the arm holes which gaped and showed off a lot of my bra) - even though it was a lovely dress, I returned it. Was not able to try a size 6 (this was the missing "dress that has been allocated to you" debacle...)

So if you are on an eBay hunt for this dress, size down would be my advice...

Countmeout · 21/07/2021 11:43

I, too, have the Tala drsss, best dress ever. Mines olive.
I can’t have the footbed of Birkenstock’s either. Sorry I don’t have the sandals mentioned @balkanscot.

I have avoided this thread in order to curtail my shopping!

I've decided to wait on buying that huge denim dress until I can get to a shop and see it irl. If I get it I'll let you know what size I've gone fir!

And I just wanted to share some angst. I ordered a dress two weeks ago. They took payment 4 days after I placed the order. In Monday I got fed up of it pending so I emailed to ask them to cancel and refund. They said they couldn't. Then mysteriously later that day I got an email saying it was on its way. I was so fed up that when it arrived today I just printed the return label and stick it on with even opening the bag.

Saurus72 · 21/07/2021 19:22

@dudsville Oh no I’m sorry. But I know exactly how you feel, my last Toast order was back in February. I just CBA with the whole debacle, it’s horrible when it feels like companies don’t care about their customers. It’s the same feeling I get whenever I have to fly with Ryanair. The problem is that without Toast, I’m not sure what I’ll wear. We went away for a break a few weeks ago and all I packed were Toast dresses - and I felt great I every one. Big dilemma - IRL or JL the only option for me. It has definitely stopped me taking a punt on sale pieces - I feel positive and negative about that.

dudsville · 21/07/2021 19:31

That's it, isn't it Saurus, those clothes are such a pleasure to wear, but it's such a faff to get the right size.

balkanscot · 21/07/2021 20:48

@ToastCosILoveIt @Gonegrey31 @Countmeout yes, the reviews all say it’s at least one-two sizes too big. I got the Jessa denim dungarees & denim pinafore dress in size 6 and there is still room in them both. I am never size 6, EVER! Confused

@ScottishMouse I was determined to get size 39 but they are now all sold out in all 3 colours! Shock Maybe just as well. I do have 2 pairs of Saltwaters, one pair where I forgot to size up 1/2 size, snug fit bit they still fit OK. The other pair, for which I sized up, fit a smidgen better. So I think for these La botte gardiane pac sandals I would definitely have to size 1/2 up. I quite fancy a nice pair of sandals that I can wear as a proper grown up, something other than a parent running after a child into the sand/sea (for which Saltwaters are perfect).

Ah, well, my credit card just breathed a huge sigh of relief. Grin

TempleofZoom · 21/07/2021 22:26

Joining the Birkie debate.
I have 6 pairs and live in mine .
They are made for my feet, however I have narrow feet and very high arches.
Anything very flat like the Saltwaters and Im hobbling.

I also have the Tala dress in green and it was worth every penny.
I got a 10 and its a great fit.
I know I will be wearing it for years so well worth it.
Still nothing new on JL...

Toast do seem to be taking longer again with orders but luckily the one that came yesterday is fine so no worries about refund delay.. Shobori tie bag.. probably not worth the 20 sale price ( esp as I received the ladt one free as kindred gift last year) but really useful for knickers and sock storage in the Campervan .. Also bought the new blue striped tee and its fine..
I am still waiting for the wool cashmere checked scarf ordered last week and the rail striped shirt..
