Thanks all - I am thinking I might just go and try on the Toast one again before making a final decision. No point something being half price if you never take it off the hanger because it's a bit too short..

@ToastCosILoveIt - I think I tried on ALL the jersey dresses at Kin the other day, except for the angled seam one! Some of them were really nice but I found the necks were so high! I think if you're going to encase yourself in sweatshirt jersey, you need to have a small amount of neck showing - not even a V - just a slightly dipped round neck

the neck on the gingham dress was fine, but it was way too long for me

I love that Kin smock dress Faustina.. if I hadn't already bought the Toast Elena denim tunic id be tempted ( and shorten it !)

Report
ToastCosILoveIt · 09/09/2021 17:54

Nice @faustina, that is a keeper isn't it and a new addition to Kin? Did you size down? I have just bought the Kin angled seam jersey dress in green which is fab but I had to size down to XS as S was too big and I am a 12.

I have a toast dress that is like that. I am always thinking that I wish it was longer!
Im 5ft 6 so it would be shorter yet again on me.

faustina · 09/09/2021 16:51

thank you! I also tried the gingham dress @neveradullmoment99 - and it almost touches the floor! I'm 5'4

It is really nice with the deep hem, but I want to make sure I wear it, not keep looking at it thinking if only it were a bit longer... hmm - maybe I will have another think

Looking again, its a definite thumbs up from me.

That is nice @faustina. What height are you? I have found some kin stuff that is much longer on me than on the model.
It is a bit shorter than I would personally like. I think if you wear black tights It would be fine and kind of merge the gap between the dress and your boots.
I think Its nice with the deep hem. Pity to turn it down.

I think I am not used to so many gathers at the top. I think I could probably try the 8 in the waist. It is not difficult to get on at all. I thought it would be a wriggle. I am a 12-14

If anyone was thinking of trying the toast swingy denim dress: I tried it on in a shop and it's quite nice but the top seemed a bit too fitted in my size - I didn't want to go up to a 10 because it was quite swingy enough in an 8

So I've just picked up this kin dress and it's very similar - except I think it's nicer. The only thing is it's a bit shorter though it has a very deep hem. Is that something I could have lengthened do you think? Or would that affect the swing?

Apologies for shit photos. The mirror is antique and I haven't worked out how to get that mark off yet !

The waist has plenty of space and I do have a very tubby belly right now!

I have sized down from a 12 to a 10. I do find its still quite generous. Do you?

Report
Countmeout · 09/09/2021 16:01

I sized down @neveradullmoment99 to avoid too much material. Is the waist generous enough to do that?

Well my cord skirt came. Ordered in a 10. Its pretty generous. The waist is fine, its just there is quite a bit of material around it. Anyone else find this?

No sign yet of my Toast package but a parcel from Finisterre did turn up with this lovely jumper.

It's beautiful and is definitely a keeper!

You could try petite bateau - they do a cotton ' undershirt' with a polo neck and really good quality, high neck cotton long sleeve t shirts. Colour palette is limited though.

I find Finisterre base layers really useful. I've not tried the roll neck as I'm worried I'll find in constricting but I love their other merino tops.

You could try M&S’ underwear section for thin polo necked layers , perhaps a winter range though . I have the perfect cotton/silk thin polo necks from Jigsaw although they are ££, might be in the sale section? Mine are navy, grey and black, bought in the last few years and they last and hold their shape . I hate scratchy knits ! A company called Patra also usually do thin silk tops that might be suitable.

Thanks @faustina! I will take a look at these. I have also just found a merino one at Cos, so might order a few and see what works best. I don’t like anything fitted either, apart from layers that go under sweaters in winter.

@ScottishMouse - I don't like anything fitted, but I remember the stylist at John Lewis recommended something in silk which they did. Lands End do something similar with a polo neck it might be worth a try? They even seem to have a petite section (I think you're short like me?)

Does anyone have a recommendation for layering tops with high necks to wear under itchy wool sweaters? The tencel/wool polos that Toast did a few years ago were great, but the neck on the current ones doesn’t work for me. Anyone know anywhere else that you can get good quality slim fitting layering tops with a roll neck or turtleneck? Thanks!

Hi all, I had to step away from the thread. If anyone recalls, I was the lurker who was going to try on the tent-like denim dress. A series of random things left me spending far too much and when I got to the toast shop that Friday I managed to walk on by... so a few weeks on I dip back in to this thread, see the wonderful rl examples and, yup, I now have £2300 in my dream basket. That coat up thread is a big portion of it, so beautiful! Argh! I'm going to sit on this, but it was lovely reading all of your reviews!
