Agree about frills, they’re not for me at all and tbh I really don’t like the look. These videos are interesting in that I don’t look or identify with any of the people wearing the clothes, and they don’t style things the way I would. I still enjoy watching them tho 🤷‍♀️

iguanadonna · 20/08/2021 12:57

The crinkled cotton dress with blue grid pattern arrived and it is wonderful. Thank you, enablers.

A generous 18 with room for broad shoulders and significant norkage. Slightly large from waist down, but not silly large. Scrumptious fabric which I assume won't need ironing, a major plus. Feel and appearance unmistakable quality.

A small thing, but I was disproportionately pleased that it arrived neatly wrapped in tissue paper in its paper bag, instead of in a sad crumpled ball at the bottom as previous recent purchases have done.

Saurus72 · 20/08/2021 13:05

Hurrah @iguanadonna sounds perfect. Any pictures you’re willing to share..?

iguanadonna · 20/08/2021 13:09

Hmm, didn't occur to me to take a picture. Will try to take an anonymous one next time I put it on. With a proper bra underneath. Just tried it quite with pandemic morale-collapse non-underwired affair on.

Saurus72 · 20/08/2021 13:11

I just like to live vicariously through others’ purchases tbh 😊

Blossomtoes · 20/08/2021 13:14

Having just watched the video, I’ve come to the conclusion (I know this will be unpopular!) that head to toe Toast doesn’t work for me. No way am I wearing ankle socks with a vast expanse of bare leg and I hate all the shoes!

I’d love to see a video of the clothes accessorised with shoes/scarves/jewellery from other brands, ideally worn by Toast customers who mix it up a bit.

That dress is calling to me @iguanadonna, you’ve me very inclined to buy it. If I do I’ll be wearing it with black merino tights and pointed black Chelsea boots.

Countmeout · 20/08/2021 13:15

I’ve e just watched the styling video too. . I still like the green cord skirt but like you @Saurus72 slightly wary of all those gathers. I also liked the blue dress Jaal was wearing. I thought she was smaller than 5’3”. But that was a good detail to know to estimate lengths.
I would like one of their cord dresses but would prefer a straight bottom.
I’m looking forward to seeing the gilet @ScottishMouse. It will be lovely for layering.

I completely agree @blossomtoes. I also find the shops totally underwhelming. Have only really found Toast because of MNet and therebwas a shop in dd's uni town.
.I have recently ordered a dark grey, simple dress which is very easy and practical for work. It needs a nice coloured scarf to liven it up and like you I'll wear it with opaques and something like a Chelsea boot or loafer.

iguanadonna · 20/08/2021 13:24

Blossom, agree on the styling. Not what I aim for at all. Not just too much and too far, but wrong direction. Perhaps I'm an atypical customer?

Haven't got as far as planning accessories for dress, but it definitely (imho) needs to be left to speak for itself, so yes, plain dark tights and boots. Most of my tights are grey or very dark blue and my boots brown, so I suppose I'll start there

neveradullmoment99 · 20/08/2021 13:26

Not much I liked on the styling video tbh.
Cord skirt and blue dress - Yes.
The handmade jumper, beautiful wool, awful shape for me.
The cream embroidered dress. Lovely but how on earth would you style it in winter? Black tights [ My staple] Just too harsh with it. I would feel a tad like I had a posh nightie on.
Its a no from me.
Harlequin clown doll shirt - just never ever ever.
I do like the gilet but it looks so short. Not sure. I would like it longer. It is what put me off the floral one.
Really not sure about the beige tiered skirt. What did others think? I did not like how it was stleyed. Thought the jumper was a horrible colour. I just did not like the way it was styled at all.
The cord dress - Nope.

neveradullmoment99 · 20/08/2021 13:27

styled

iguanadonna · 20/08/2021 13:27

Also, seriously, frills on adult women? Marrimekko is at it too this season and even their stick-thin androgynous models with beautiful sculpted faces look like they've escaped from the nursery with Peter Pan.

I love the black one. I have my eye on it!
neveradullmoment99 · 20/08/2021 13:28

I would not wear full on dress, socks and those shoes either.

Laska2Meryls · 20/08/2021 13:42

( if I could afford them) I'd wear the Hereu shoes with thick coloured tights, but not socks ,and no way bare legs and socks with a dress..

Looking forward to seeing the hemp jerkin ScottishMouse.. its a fab look but not with my broad shoulders and norkage sadly .. waistcoat things just dont work on me .. I do have a gilet but its long (and used in the garden or for camping!)

I'd wear the longer white shirt sand trousers combo probably with a shorter navy jumper over ..

Blossomtoes · 20/08/2021 14:04

I’m not sure who their typical customer is @iguanadonna - and I don’t think they know either! I think they’re badly in need of some customer research.

ScottishMouse · 20/08/2021 14:19

Well, the floral scarf and filet arrived (had paid for next day delivery as I will be away with work for the next week). Both are lovely. I ordered two sizes in the gilet to try, and I’m not sure which to go for as there is quite a difference between them. No idea how it should fit! The small looks fine but because I have a big bust it doesn’t close together (I know it isn’t supposed to actually close), but the medium might look a bit big. I hate fitted clothes, but I sometimes go too big and baggy. Hmmmm…will try again with some other things underneath….how does anyone think it should fit?

ilovecherries · 20/08/2021 14:21

I think it shouldn’t close, but also should sit at the sides of the bust, with the entire bust showing in front of it. So probably cut the chest at about the nipple line?

ilovecherries · 20/08/2021 14:22

Shouldn’t sit at the sides of the bust!!

faustina · 20/08/2021 14:28

@ScottishMouse - would love to see a pic of the gilet if you'd feel comfortable doing it. Just off to fetch my cardigans from Waitrose...

Countmeout · 20/08/2021 14:34

@neveradullmoment99 I thought the only plus for the tiered skirt was the elastic waist. Not my colour tbh.

OP posts:
ScottishMouse · 20/08/2021 14:41

Here you go @faustina. I have tried it on with quite a few tops now and I don’t think it looks as great with many of them as I had hoped. I think the small fits better but is a wee bit short, there is more length in the medium but it is too wide I think. I think sadly I might return it, I need the clothes I buy and keep to be workhorses, and this doesn’t feel like one.

And for a completely different look, here is the smaller size with the Edith chambray dress. It’s growing on me!

Laska2Meryls · 20/08/2021 14:56

The new Striped linen Alix arrived trousers and they are really small on me...
I can usually wear an XS in the Alix but not these! Could hardly get them on ( or off again !)
Much, much smaller than usual but reordering because they are lovely fabric and classic but may go for an M !

Reordered the denim Elena but have decided to keep the 12 after all.. here it is ( excuse funky -Toast from a few seasons ago- trousers).. ill be wearing the Elena in the winter with a tee under ..

ScottishMouse · 20/08/2021 15:17

How odd with the Alix sizing @Laska2Meryls. My first ever Alix some years ago were a 6, the two pairs I’ve bought in the last couple of years are an 8 and smaller than the 6. Changing over to the xs-xl sizing format means there will be fewer sizes, so makes it even harder to guess what size might fit.
