I’m struggling with this as well, zara. To answer your specific question, I don’t see any significant degradation of quality. The CS can be a bit rocky these days, but I find the garments themselves are robust, with proper seams and hems, and good durability.

Countmeout · 13/08/2021 20:10

Yes the seams are good, well finished I find. I never look where an item comes from, I just judge on how it looks, feels and fits. I would say most things are sturdy for want of a better word, much more so than a lot of garments these days. It doesn’t seem to be any different no matter where it’s made.

I’m not concerned about where things are made, however I am concerned about the lack of transparency re: sourcing of materials such as wool. Lots of companies (Arket, Cos, Jigsaw) give information about their wool (the responsible wool standard) and Toast doesn’t (that I’ve seen). Toast need to do more than talk about their values, I want them to live them, which included provenance of materials.

ZaraW · 14/08/2021 06:00

Thanks, good to know quality hasn't declined. I'm always a bit cynical when companies move to manufacturing in China for cost cutting reasons.

They are really vague about sourcing of materials. Their ethical stance sounds good but there's nothing to back it up.

savvy7 · 15/08/2021 10:48

Quick question for fellow Toast fans. I'm a new convert and like a number of items on the website but some of the prices are £££.

Is it worth hanging on for the sales i.e. do most things end up in the sale at some point? Or do Toast ever do discount codes?

Thanks in advance

Countmeout · 18/08/2021 08:48

Sales are good if what you want is in it.
Discounts few and far between.

Anyone see on Instagram a few new things dropping tomorrow?

Has anyone got or tried the Crinkled Cotton Check Dress (Ink Blue/Bluette)?

I'm wondering what it would be like on an hourglass. Annoying not having any pics of it on a person nor any reviews.

I keep deciding not to order it and then seeing it again and thinking just right colours on me...

ScottishMouse · 18/08/2021 09:14

@iguanadonna, I tried last year’s version of this. I am the opposite body type to you though, busty with no hips to speak of. I tried my normal Toast dress size (small/10), and it fitted pretty well but was a little more fitted than I like across the bust. The next size was too big all over. So I think it might work well on you, try your usual Toast size.

ilovecherries · 18/08/2021 09:47

I’ve been admiring that dress as well, donna, it looks lovely. I’ve resisted buying it as a) I have loads of dresses b) my back-to-normal life isn’t actually anywhere near normal yet so I never go anywhere to wear said dresses. But I had trousers a few years back in that double layer crinkle cotton and they are SO soft, comfy and warm, and still look like new.

ilovecherries · 18/08/2021 09:49

Am I making it up or do Toast usually do a short-lived 10% off offer round about now? I want all the socks to wear with brogues.

ScottishMouse · 18/08/2021 10:02

I think that might be wishful thinking @ilovecherries! At least, I have never seen such a thing.

Laska2Meryls · 18/08/2021 10:26

I once saw a 15% Cherries- probably in 2019- but nothing for ages ... they have even stopped doing Mention me referrals Sad

I have FOMO on the Elena denim shirt ( was waiting to order once I had some more ebay stuff sold) as its disappeared from the Toast website and so have ordered it from JL . I tried it when it was first out so know its a keeper , but the one I ordered was too big ..

And I also seem to have also ordered the new Alix linen slate striped trousers .. Blush

......but I have already worn the blue ones several times since getting them a couple of weeks ago (ebay sadly as missed out on JL sale price) .. and practically have lived in the sand ones this summer

iguanadonna · 18/08/2021 15:37

Thank you Mouse and Cherries! In that case I will try to think of a reason why it's totally justifiable for me to order it.

Saurus72 · 18/08/2021 17:32

There are reviews appearing on the Toast website, slowly but surely. I’m hopeful this is a sign that the chaos is starting to calm down a bit. Also, is it my imagination or do the prices seem to mainly be coming down from the eye watering levels from the last couple of seasons? The denim wrap skirt I bought was £125, the same price as the mini check cotton dress I’ve got my eye on. Definitely not cheap but also not the £270 dress prices we’ve seen recently.

@iguanadonna that dress looks lovely doesn’t it? I’m an hourglass and I have a couple of similar shaped dresses from Toast but in drapey fabric, and I practically live in them. #enabler

iguanadonna · 18/08/2021 17:44

Right, Saurus tipped me over the edge. Ordered. Will let you know! If it's good, I should think I'll live in it for the autumn.

Saurus72 · 18/08/2021 17:52

Happy to help 😇

faustina · 18/08/2021 17:53

I bought a couple of things recently and they sent me emails to review them - I think they said they'd put my name in a prize draw if I wrote a review (the kind of thing I never ever win!)

I also went into the Cambridge Toast the other day and tried on the swingy denim dress - so odd to be back in real shop trying things on! Anyway, it was quite a nice length on me - longer than my corduroy dress, and the 8 was a good fit. didn't much like the sleeves though - you couldn't roll them up as they didn't have a cuff to unbutton. I'd wanted to try on the other denim dress, but it was boiling hot and couldn't be arsed. I might order it later on when it's a bit cooler

what's all this about new stuff arriving ?

ilovecherries · 18/08/2021 17:54

Oh yes, hope it works out donna. I like the trousers in the same fabric as well. I’m actually getting a bit fed up of ‘not summer’. In Scotland we had three good weeks in July (and I was very fortunate to be on holiday for them) but otherwise the weather is pretty driech. If it’s going to be like this, I’d rather pack summer away and get out my lovely autumn clothes which are for the most part better quality and much more interesting and many are old friends.

Saurus72 · 18/08/2021 17:56

@faustina I tried to go to the Cambridge store on Sunday to try this dress on but turns out they’re closed on Sundays!

www.toa.st/products/micro-gingham-cotton-dress-slate-ecru

Seemed very strange, other shops were quite busy.

ilovecherries · 18/08/2021 18:06

Can I just have quick opinions on this gansey, as it needs to go back soon if I’m not keeping it. Have been hanging on for a smaller size appearing, but no luck. I’m wearing a long sleeve blouse under it and still a lot of room. But it’s a fisherman’s jumper - it’s meant to be big, right? And I’d hate it to more constricting round the neck if I went smaller.

Toast is there any stopping us?
faustina · 18/08/2021 18:09

@Saurus72 - I was there on Saturday - Cambridge was packed and it was so hot! Toast was empty though, also Brora next door - I guess they're both quite tucked away there, aren't they?

I bought a lovely little fair isle cardigan in the sale at Brora ( via Jl) - it's really pretty and I thought it might look nice with my high waisted Toast trousers

faustina · 18/08/2021 18:11

Beautiful colour @ilovecherries. Are you sure it's too big? It looks great on you!

ilovecherries · 18/08/2021 18:15

@faustina

Beautiful colour *@ilovecherries*. Are you sure it's too big? It looks great on you!
To be honest, not a clue 😃. I’ve lost so much weight I’m always buying clothes that I think are fine and other people say are too big! I think it’s probably fine, although would like to have tried a small as a reality check. But it’s not meant to be fitted (I assume)
ilovecherries · 18/08/2021 18:16

That cardi is gorgeous, Faustina.

ilovecherries · 18/08/2021 18:17

All last years Toast jumpers are a medium, and none of them feel too big.
