Oh good, sounds like it might work. Anyone have their purchases yet?

neveradullmoment99 · 06/08/2021 09:51

Well I go and collect the Pihu dress in a 12 today but will feedback later!
I am usually a 10 or small in other dresses but in other shirt dresses have had to have my usual 12 too.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 06/08/2021 09:51

Mine are scheduled to arrive today but I didn’t buy anything exciting only a couple of pairs of trousers.

neveradullmoment99 · 06/08/2021 12:00

Well picked up the Pihu dress and its very fitted on the bust for me. May keep though as I am on the journey of losing weight so not too worried about that. It is a gorgeous gingham though.

neveradullmoment99 · 06/08/2021 12:01

If you have a bust, most definitely need to get your normal size.

neveradullmoment99 · 06/08/2021 12:01

For reference, I am a 32E [ I wear a 34E because i cannot stand a band that is too tight]

Saurus72 · 06/08/2021 14:22

Quick non-Toast question please. Has anyone ever been to the Margaret Howell outlet store in York? We’re going up to Edinburgh in about a month and maybe planning a night somewhere around York to break up the journey. I’m wondering about whether I should maybe try and combine it with a stop here? I’ve never tried any MH clothes on - they may to too austere but maybe not. Any experiences (MH style/quality generally) or of that outlet store specifically v gratefully received. TIA.

Countmeout · 06/08/2021 16:51

@Saurus72 not me but I think I remember some chat about it in an earlier thread. @Laska2Meryls talked about going I think 🤔 but not sure if I’ve remembered correctly or if she actually went.

I go to the MH outlet quite often Saurus. There are often some lovely things, although even discounted the prices can be eye-watering.

The quality is excellent (lovely fabric, great finishing). The sizes are huge.

Oh, bloody hell, I like everything I got from JL. That wasn’t the plan. The baby cord ecru shirt dress is lovely (wasn’t meant to like that). Not sure about Batik dress. It’s gorgeous, colour suits me but it’s a tad too big on bodice. Fits perfectly on waist (couldn’t go smaller there) and extra swish on the skirt isn’t an issue. I don’t think it would be an easy job to tailor, given it has a side zip and I don’t want the waist touched. Alix trousers are just lovely in the slate and the gansey is gorgeous. Very hot and stick just now, so I need to wear it for an hour round the house when I’m showered just to check it’s not itchy. But that was an xpensive round!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 07/08/2021 18:17

That’s great @ilovecherries , or maybe not if you weren’t planning on keeping it all Grin .
My Alix slate trousers and indigo long crop have not turned up yet, despite Hermes saying they had received them on Thursday. They’re normally very good round here so I don’t know what’s gone wrong Confused .

How does the Batik dress come up size wise?

I wasn't quick enough but might keep a look out for returns.

Countmeout · 07/08/2021 18:58

And the length of the cord dress @ilovecherries - is it short?
Glad you’re so pleased with it all.

Blossomtoes · 07/08/2021 18:58

The cord shirtdress is indeed lovely @ilovecherries. Sadly the colour made me look like a corpse and there was no way I’d ever have worn it. I really, really want them to make it in grey, blue or navy then I’ll be all over it.

ilovecherries · 07/08/2021 19:10

I didn’t expect to like the colour either Blossom, so I didn’t think I’d want to keep it 🤦‍♀️.

Countmeout - it hits me just below the knee, so shorter than a lot of Toast dresses (I’m 5’7)

Zoom - Mine is a 12, which is pretty much my normal size both in Toast snd on High Street. I rarely size down in Toast, though I know nearly everyone else does. It fits nicely on my waist - which is most def a post-menopausal sad affair so if you actually have a waist you might find it too loose - on me it actually gives me a waist by some alchemy. However, I’m a 32FF and it def has loose fabric at the sides of the bodice.

Thanks that's really helpful
Countmeout · 07/08/2021 19:39

Thanks @ilovecherries sounds as though it would be good with tights for winter

Wow that's good about the haul cherries tho not so good for the bank balance. My pihu arrived. The 14 was fine, loose at the waist but tight on the shoulders (I am broad shouldered). It's a lovely dress but I didn't feel it did much for me so it has been sent back Halo
Now I'm wondering about the indigo pinafore dress. I ordered in a 12 and it was quite oversized but wonder if I should try a 10 (even tho I feel silly ordering a 10 as I am not a 10 and never have been -apart from maybe when I was ten Grin)

Gonegrey31 · 08/08/2021 09:11

I have received my Batik dress, and also really like it ilovecherries - I hadn’t appreciated that it is navy with blue and grey squares, not black as I had assumed. On me ( being flat chested) the bodice drops so the dress looks like a low waisted style. Definitely keeping it ! (Especially at half price)....
Glad you like the Gansey sweater, I think it is worth the investment. A classic sweater.

ilovecherries · 08/08/2021 10:31

I’m still a withering about the batik dress. I really love it but it is bagging slightly at the sides. I think I might take it to the dressmaker before I decide and get her opinion. I’m too scared to have a go myself.

neveradullmoment99 · 08/08/2021 10:38

I also have the batik dress and it's perfect. Definitely keeping!

neveradullmoment99 · 08/08/2021 10:41

I ordered the tala in blue in a 12 but its a bit baggy up top but everywhere else fine. I'm actually not that fussed for it although it is a beautiful cotton.
I think the green would have been a keeper but jlewis never did it in that colour, or I never saw it.
Will try again but I'm thinking it's a return.
It doesn't help that the weather is so awful. Makes me not want anything summery on.

I feel that way about the pihu but tbh it Hinksey I needed your 14 at the moment. 12 is neat on me.

You could wear a camisole under it, tee or a bralet?
