That’s a lovely skirt, Saurus. I have the slate hemp dress on its way in a 12 as well. It’s been on its way since Wed, but only appeared the enter the postal system last night. I suspect I will be too A line for me, but I really wanted to get a feel for their hemp, as I don’t think I’ve ever had anything in that.

neveradullmoment99 · 25/07/2021 18:41

I think that most of their styles are catering for people who are like me [average 5ft 6 inches] I am sure I read that on their website at one point [probably the old website!]
Anway, I am that height and most things fit where they should length wise. What I am finding is that some styles I am needing to size up in the bust dept. I have narrow shoulders and am pear shaped and range between small and medium bing a 12-14.
@ConfusedParticle you sound small boned by your description. I think if you are quite slim, the clothes will hang differently on you. I can imagine it is hard for those that are an 8-10, since most of the clothes are quite volumous. [ Would still love to be an 8-10!]
When I was slimmer some of the clothes hung of me even in a size smaller. I hope you find something. It is very frustrating at the moment with any details and not even reviews to rely on.

I am also really pissed off with John Lewis.
I had ordered some Toast items at the beginning of the sale using gift vouchers. When they refunded me, they put it on my account as a credit. There wasn't anything that I wanted at the time so I left it for about a week.Well I went on to the website on Tuesday only to find they had been removed!
I promptly phoned them there and then only for the lady to give me a case number and was very apologetic saying she was sure it would be sorted out. She said there had been another person on with the sasme thing.
Received an email to say that they were no longer refunding amounts from vouchers on account credit but were now changing to e vouchers which would be emailed to me shortly. They said that they were sorry that this wasn't communicated to me!! I am still waiting.
I thought 'shortly' meant in the next few hours! Not days. Anway, emailed the lady back and she said I would recieve in 72 hours. I am still waiting so its back on the phone tomorrow.
I am really annoyed. Its my money they have taken. You honestly would think that they would have sorted that asap!

@Saurus72 - I meant to go to the Toast in Cambridge last week, but got so depressed at John Lewis I just went on to do the other non shopping things instead. It was all very underwhelming - my first foray into real big shops since the pandemic started. All the sale stuff jumbled up like you say. That skirt is a good colour!

faustina · 25/07/2021 18:54

@neveradullmoment99 - same thing happened to me! Except they did send me the email with the details of the e-refund quite promptly. Hope you get yours soon

Thank you. Hopefully tomorrow :)
That is reassuring @faustina

Saurus72 · 25/07/2021 19:08

@ilovecherries on me, the hemp dress looked nice from the front, but the skirt stuck out too much at the back, I think it will be body shape dependent. I wish it had worked because the top is a really lovely shape.

@faustina Yes JL really was underwhelming. I generally didn’t enjoy browsing (JL or in Cambridge generally) today not sure why, it’s unlike (pre-COVID) me. This time of year is often a bit crap for clothes stock though. I generally don’t feel like I can wander, stop for a coffee etc. Today I just went to the shops I had planned to and nowhere else. Weird.

Countmeout · 25/07/2021 19:25

Thanks for the info re other Toast Instagram accounts @ScottishMouse. I plan to spend some time browsing them all. Lots to see. I have now followed them all 🤭 there seems to be some more styling videos but I haven’t looked at them yet. Will report back.
I think your cardigan is very nice on you and it will be so cosy in winter.

@ConfusedParticle I am 5’4” but I am bigger then you 10/12. The only thing I have bought that I just had to shorten is the Lydia jersey pinafore, I like things quite long though.
I noticed on the Toast Nottinghill Instagram account Jael features and looks great in the new slipcover with trousers, she seems to be very small so maybe things she’s wearing will give inspiration for those of you who are tiny.

@neveradullmoment99 - I just checked as I remembered it came from an odd email, so you might want to check your spam filter - this is it, though it does say it's from John Lewis:
[email protected]

ilovecherries · 25/07/2021 20:02

I’ve just realised we’ve been going gor well over a year - since last May. That’s a lot of Toast love 😂

Saurus72 · 25/07/2021 20:44

@ilovecherries wow, that is a lot of Toastie chat. From my perspective I think the really amazing JL sale prices last summer consolidated it. Almost as good as the archive sales 😎

Thanks for that. I have checked but there is nothing from that email, either in junk or just normal but that will help in case something comes through. Much appreciated.

AuldFox · 25/07/2021 21:16

Yeah, JL sale pulled me back to toast after a hiatus!

ilovecherries · 26/07/2021 11:50

Hmmm. Hemp dress arrived and I don’t think it’s for me. It reminds me of my gym slip (don’t know why we called them that as we wore them every day) from the 60s. I felt a bit infantilised with it on.

Countmeout · 26/07/2021 12:16

I remember those @ilovecherries. Mine had a girdle in maroon. Disappointing about the dress though I think it’s a tricky shape unless you’re thin as a rake and possibly tall.

@dudsville, did you get a chance to try on the giant denim dress? Please report back if you did.
@TempleofZoom, you said you tried it in a size smaller than usual. Can I ask if you are broad of shoulder or busty?
I am tempted to try it despite your terrible review. I wouldn’t usually size down in dresses at Toast, so unsure what size to try. Thanks.

ScottishMouse · 27/07/2021 16:36

Also, don’t suppose anyone has the tiered Delave dress in a small that they are planning to return? Have been stalking the website and ebay looking for one for weeks with no luck. I’d like it for a christening next month. Think I might order the ticking stripe one as an alternative.

TempleofZoom · 27/07/2021 20:54

Hello @ScottishMouse
To answer your question
I am tall, standard size 12 with very wide shoulders ( think professional swimmer shoulders) long slim arms and legs and a 32 FF bust .
I tried on the size 10 and it was fine but looseish through the arms, neck and shoulders so would fit a t shirt or polo neck underneath but the skirt just didnt work for me.
I tried on another denim dress last season had a similar problem so might be the weight of the fabric.

dudsville · 27/07/2021 21:01

Friday scottishmouse! If I have the wherewithal I'll take a pic in the dressing room, if I'm allowed to try it on.

ScottishMouse · 27/07/2021 21:31

Thanks @TempleofZoom, that is very helpful. I am somewhat more put off now again. I wonder if the one you tried last season was a pinafore style? I tried a denim pinafore that was more a-line than the usual style (I think there was chat on here about it, but I can’t remember the name of it) last season and it was far too a-line on me, it didn’t look at all good. I might just wait and try this one in store. They didn’t have it last time I was there, so will look again.
Thanks also @dudsville, would love to hear your thoughts too after your Toast browse on Friday. Hope you enjoy!

It was a denim dress with short sleeves but the fabric was very stiff. The pinafores always seem to suit me -I ve got 4 !
ilovecherries · 28/07/2021 11:55

Placed check shirt which I dithered about keeping but I’m glad I did, with Toast trousers from 2/3 years ago. And the sale bag!

Toast is there any stopping us?
Gonegrey31 · 28/07/2021 12:27

That looks SO good ilovecherries

For those of you looking at denim items, I tried a number of dresses last year and recently. I had to size down in all of them to get the correct fit, and even then ended up returning all as the fabric was just too heavy for me, I like clothes that move and swish with me.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 28/07/2021 12:34

Really nice ilovecherries .

AmethystMoonShine · 28/07/2021 12:50

Gorgeous @ilovecherries, that's a beautiful outfit and really suits you.
