Does anyone follow Silver Clothes Line on Instagram? Actually, I guess one of us might even BE her (weird)! She wears a lot of Toast, and love her styling (and her hair).

AmethystMoonShine · 24/07/2021 07:33

@ilovecherries yes I do, I also love her hair. Her colour palette is totally the opposite of what suits me but I love her styling.

ilovecherries · 24/07/2021 08:26

I have decided totally on the basis of her Instagram, that she’s a interesting person who I’d like to know. I always get the feeling that she’s sharing her creativity rather than ‘influencing’. I hate that word!

I'm just catching up on this thread. It's so hard as I'm so weak and easily tempted! My wardrobe, which had been so thoughtfully kondoed is full again. I just stopped myself from looking at the toast offerings on the JL site!

My return (the one I returned in spite without even opening) was immediately processed on the day the received it, yay!

I will have two opportunities to go to a Toast shop this week so I will check out the far too big denim dress. Someone up thread asked me to report back, I'll look up who that was!

As for Birkenstocks, I've never had to wear mine in so I think this is going to be about the suitability of the shoe. LIke a pp, I have narrow feet with arches. I wear Arizonas and Bostons and love them both so much. For me though I have to go up a size and put the straps all the way to the smallest notches as I don't like to feel the lip of the sandals against my feet.

That dress is adorable on you fingeroffudge!

Saurus72 · 24/07/2021 11:59

@ilovecherries Thanks for the Instagram recommendation, I’ve started following her. I love seeing ‘real’ people wearing Toast clothes (especially useful when there are v few modelling pics on the website).

Laska2Meryls · 24/07/2021 16:21

My last sale item arrived .. the rail striped shirt that I ordered last minute on a whim as they had one left and I was bored and 'needed' a parcel 🤣🤦🤭 !!!.. its really nice.. !

Me too. Very useful!

ScottishMouse · 24/07/2021 17:24

My last sale purchase arrived too. It was also a bit of a whim buy. The fairisle alpaca long cardigan coat type thing. I had eyes up the jumper in the winter but never tried it in the end, but this popped up in my size so I pounced.
It is super cosy and comfy and big enough to fit lots of layers inside. I would plan to wear it as a coat/jacket mostly rather than indoors as a cardigan. But I wonder if it swamps me a bit, I am only just over 5 foot.

It was me! Can’t wait to hear what it’s like in the flesh. My credit card is poised ready.

I tried it on this week. In a size 10 so down a size. It was absolutely massive and the sides stuck out very strangely. Very unflattering.
Blossomtoes · 24/07/2021 18:34

Thanks @TempleofZoom. The concept of flattering is alien to me so that doesn’t bother me in the slightest. It’s good to hear it’s big, I love huge dresses.

I dont mean unflattering as in "omg does my bum look big in this" I dont feel the need to dress for others. I meant as in it looked absolutely awful, like a tent with extra sides Grin
Blossomtoes · 24/07/2021 18:54

OK, I think I need to try it on. I assume you recommend sizing down?

Ive just looked at the pic on the Toast website and it looks lovely there . Such a shame as Im on the look out for a denim dress. Yes I am usually a 12 in Toast dresses but even the 10 was huge . The fit was loose but ok on the arms and shoulders it was the skirt and the cut that I didnt like . Probably shouldnt say it but the shop assistants were disappointed in it as well.
faustina · 24/07/2021 19:57

@ScottishMouse - that looks really lovely on you. Not swamping at all!

For anyone wishing to order sale stuff, there is still some available if you search for the actual thing in the search box

Laska2Meryls · 24/07/2021 20:11

Faustina I was just going to post that too !

AmethystMoonShine · 24/07/2021 20:31

@ScottishMouse I have that coat/ cardigan too. It has large roomy sleeves and that was a real plus for me as I know I’ll get decent layers under it. It looks good on you Smile

ScottishMouse · 24/07/2021 21:19

Thanks @faustina & @AmethystMoonShine. My sis told me it does nothing for me, and she is usually right, but I do like it a lot so will give it another try tomorrow. It definitely would be useful, and cosy for Scottish autumn/winter.
I had noticed that too about searching directly for sale items. Though I can’t remember what I still had my eye on! Just as well probably!

applecatchers36 · 25/07/2021 13:20

Scottish Mouse that Coatigan looks really warm and cosy am sure you will be pleased with it come winter ❄️

Have already worn my sale purchases a lot, the tan sandals and bleu de chauffe bag, go with most things, very versatile

Hi guys, I am new to the Toast threads!

I've purchased from Toast many times in the past but have tended to have to return much of it, unless accessories or homeware.

I am not unreasonably tiny, just 5'4, average to slim size 8-10 and in my mid forties. I have a smallish bust, but still a B cup. I have no idea why Toast clothes drown me, but even a size 6 winter coat reaches the top of my feet and has room for about 12 more shoulders when buttoned Sad
Most of the images in this thread seem like you are mostly average heights/weights, so I have no idea how you're doing it - do you get stuff altered, are are you all pushing 6 foot?

There are a few dresses I am interested in but a bit risk averse now.
A good thing is to check their local insta's as many of the shop staff model the stock and you get some decent idea of what the clothes look like on - unlike the appalling website, which has put too much energy into the aesthetic at the detriment of actually showing models wearing the clothes from different angles. if they did this, I would shop there much more. They don't even give you garment measurements FGS, it's not as if it would kill them.

This particular issue gives me the impression that they care very little about customer comfort or satisfaction, almost as if they are hostile to it.
I hope they eventually meet some stiff competition and are forced to make shopping on their website more customer focused.

ilovecherries · 25/07/2021 14:20

I’m 5’7 and a fairly standard size 12, 32FF. It’s rare for me not to wear my usual size in toast, occasionally in a fixed waist skirt needing a 14. But I like the oversized aesthetic and so long as something fits on the shoulders as it’s meant to, I like a bit of waft! There was one dress this summer where I did reorder in a 10, but that was unusual.

ScottishMouse · 25/07/2021 14:20

Hi @ConfusedParticle. Well, you are taller than me. I am only just over 5 foot, yet most of my clothes are from Toast. I am a busty 10-12 though, with relatively wide shoulders, so this may make a difference.
I am happy to turn up a trouser leg or a sleeve, I have to do it with most brands. I’m also happy to wear dresses that are low calf/ankle length on me, even if they are designed to be shorter. But it very much depends on the style. Some of the shirt dresses work like this in my opinion, but the stiffer fabrics and straighter skirt shapes (like the denim pinafores for example) drown me a bit. I also find some of their tops or shirts too long, although jersey tops seem to run short so they work for me. I have tried a couple of coats in the past and they don’t work at my height, but jackets are fine. I think the shorter and more petite among us just need to be a bit more careful with styles, but I think there is still plenty to choose from.
I hope that encourages you somewhat.
I agree about individual shops’ Instagrams, I have recently started following them all as they post different things to each other.

ConfusedParticle · 25/07/2021 14:27

Thanks! Perhaps it is a shoulder thing ,mine are quite narrow and I have a bit of a bony upper chest...

I do like a bit of waft though myself Grin

It would help such a lot if they gave some measurements (apart from 'outside leg length' and a few images of different angles. Many garments aren't even shown from the rear. Surely this is just contemptuous?

faustina · 25/07/2021 14:40

@ConfusedParticle I'm the same height as you and I take size 6/8 in Toast, 8 most other places. I don't think I currently have a Toast coat, though I have in the past without being swamped. I have a few jackets, all of which are fine - dresses and trousers too, though I tend to avoid the wide legged which do swamp me. I don't think my shoulders are particularly wide either. Hope you find some things you like eventually! There's someone on Instagram called Jenny sue Garcia who's a similar size who often wears Toast. Perhaps have a look at what she's wearing?

Saurus72 · 25/07/2021 18:07

@applecatchers36 I love your bag, saw the blue/grey one IRL today and it really was lovely.

I went to Toast in Cambridge today - stock in store not too exciting but I bought the denim wrap skirt, which in itself isn’t very exciting either! But I think Toast denim is excellent so high hopes that this will be a good wfh option for most of the year, except a couple of the warmest summer months. In case anyone is thinking of ordering, I’m usually a Toast dress size 12 and bought this skirt in 14. Feels excellent quality so pleased.

I also went to JL and tried on the slate hemp tiered dress that was amongst the Toast sale dregs. I tried a 12 which was a good fit on the top but the style wasn’t for me, too voluminous. A shame because the fabric is lovely.

Also, I have a feeling that Modern Rarity may be going as there wasn’t a section in the shop, and there were a few returns on sale racks with loads of different brands all mixed together. I didn’t buy a huge amount from that range but definitely a few things each year so I really hope I’m wrong and that there will be new AW stock.
