Naff things in other people's fashion sense

I know that it is a question of each to his own etc but what do you find naff in other people's fashion sense?

OP posts:
Jahebejrjr · 26/06/2021 16:19

@LolaSmiles It’s perfectly acceptable that you don’t agree with me. I will continue to call out classism wherever I see it though. It may be a big joke or ‘exhausting’ to you but it’s a huge issue which has real life consequences for lots of people, and it’s getting worse. I’ve never found snobbery something that is admirable in other people because, like I say, it does real damage.

wowhie · 26/06/2021 16:29

@Jahebejrjr you didn't just call out classism though, apparently you dislike opinions. Your post to me said A lot of women aspire to wear Boden clothes. What’s wrong with Kate Middleton? What do you wear that we should all aspire to?

There's nothing wrong with me not liking Boden or Kate Middletons hair styles or footwear choices & thinking they are uncool. Again it doesn't mean my choices & what I like are superior.

Jahebejrjr · 26/06/2021 16:31

@wowhie. I don’t dislike opinions. I have lots of them.

wowhie · 26/06/2021 16:33

So you only dislike those that you don't agree with? 😆

wowhie · 26/06/2021 16:35

What is wrong with me thinking Boden is naff? Why is it relevant that many aspire to wear Boden?

HermioneGrunger · 26/06/2021 16:42

@LolaSmiles

But is it really breaking news that people think some things are nice and some things are naff?

I think some of the 'how to look expensive suggestions sound boring, think the trend for navy interiors will date, don't particularly understand why people buzz over Farrow and Ball paint being better than all others, and (whispers) think Centre Parcs is Butlins in the woods. Others will probably think things things like are a bit naff. People sharing opinions is hardly worth the anger that it triggers on here.

Completely off topic but I looked at Center Parcs recently in desperation for some type of holiday and nearly needed an ambulance when I saw the prices. The hyperventilating and ranting from me took a while to subside.
Jahebejrjr · 26/06/2021 16:44

@wowhie. I don’t dislike people who disagree with me. I just don’t agree with them. I mean, that’s true for everyone yes?

RichardMarxisinnocent · 26/06/2021 16:47

@Popcornbetty

'My pet hate is a sensible black handbag that is clearly worn with every outfit, especially with an anorak. Has it not occurred to you that some women can't afford to buy multiple handbags /other bags to ensure they have one which goes with every outfit? Or maybe they don't have room in their home to store multiple handbags?'

Or maybe they simply don't give a shit, can't be arsed to change bags and grabbed it off the peg as they flew out door in a hurry! Why do people care? Far too much time on alot of posters hands here! If people constantly change bags they are a Kardashian wannabe but if they have a sensible cross body bag no style etc, id love to see what alot of people on here wear daily Grin

That's exactly the reason I am usually seen with the same handbag most days regardless of outfit. Everything I need for the day is in my handbag and stays in my handbag, I really can't be bothered moving it all to a different bag daily or even regularly. I do have more than one handbag (from places like Next and Debenhams, I don't want to shop in Primark and can't afford really expensive handbags) but only change from one to the other once in a while if I fancy a change or if I want to use a bigger or smaller bag.
MrsMiddleMother · 26/06/2021 16:47

The bushy brushed up eyebrow trend. So many pretty girls look like they've had an electric shock

Snog · 26/06/2021 16:47

High heels

1forAll74 · 26/06/2021 16:52

Some young women who have completely ruined their prettiness, with those huge blown up lips, and dreadful eyebrows, not to mention those huge and high boob jobs. They all look the same, as though they have all been produced in a factory on an assembly line.

wowhie · 26/06/2021 16:52

You're entitled to love Boden, I'm entitled to not love it. Neither opinion is the correct one because it's just an opinion so whether others aspire to it is irrelevant.

Meezer2 · 26/06/2021 16:53

What an ugly thread this is?
Filled with ageism, class mocking and judgement.

Jabbinell · 26/06/2021 16:59

Skinny jeans (soooo dated) especially spray on ones on boys.

Cold shoulder tops (nuff said)

Asymmetrical / graduated bobs.

Plum / deep red coloured hair.

Bench, Superdry, White Stuff, Fat Face, Millets etc style clothing (style vacuum).

Bretons with flowers and random designs on, all that awful floral, embroidered style free “mum”wear in general.
Just because I have a child I still enjoy fashion.

JOE BROWNS (why? Just why?)

Over filled lips and faces.

Michael Kors, DNKY bags (tragic)

Skin tight thin lycra that shows every detail of your body.

Crusty heels and toes in flipflops/sandals (vom).

SKETCHERS (I’d rather die)

POLYESTER CLOTHING! (primarni sells a ton of cotton, no excuse)

WeirdArchitecture · 26/06/2021 17:14

some people are really fucking terrified of being perceived as working class, lol.

dingdongdangledee · 26/06/2021 17:21

Those weird headbands that grown women have been sporting over the last couple of years, if you're over 7 you don't look cool or cute or whatever it is you think you're pulling off, you just look like a Mormon 🤷🏻‍♀️

Popcornbetty · 26/06/2021 17:40

@Jabbinell well don't you sound like a barrel of laughs Grin

Popcornbetty · 26/06/2021 17:48

Oh and I'd rather die than wear shoes that don't support plantar fasciitis in the name of fasion that look bloody awful but hey its a 'cool' label...Hmm

Popcornbetty · 26/06/2021 17:50

h*

Jabbinell · 26/06/2021 17:52

@Popcornbetty I am actually! I just like (and work in) fashion, must have worn high heels about twice in my life so save the sanctimony.

Popcornbetty · 26/06/2021 17:54

@jabinnel I'm sure you do work in fashion 🤣🤣🤣🤣 thanks you're right you are a barrel of laughs!

midsomermurderess · 26/06/2021 18:04

I don't like cardigans over dresses, I think they kind of kill the charm of a dress. Yes, they have a practical purpose, but nonetheless. I think it's often done out of a kind of modesty. And vest tops under wrap dresses, for the same reason.

midsomermurderess · 26/06/2021 18:12

Someone mentioned red trousers up thread. There's a term for that in Edinburgh, with the abbreviation LAMFRT. 'Look at my fucking red trousers'. If you live there you know the type, New Town, Land Rover, and yes, red trews.

PattyPan · 26/06/2021 18:33

Plum / deep red coloured hair

Whenever people I know dye their hair like this it always seems to be when they are going through something! It’s like changing your fb profile pic to a childhood photo of yourself. Both say ‘I am not in a good place right now’.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 26/06/2021 18:44

Jabinnel, I’m with you.

I worked in the fashion industry for 10 years, and then another 25 doing other stuff within it.

I agree with every single thing on your list.
