Naff things in other people's fashion sense

I know that it is a question of each to his own etc but what do you find naff in other people's fashion sense?

OP posts:

However claiming to have a disability you don't have in an attempt to score points would be

So you’re now calling me a liar? How would you know what my medical is just by my posts on this forum? As it happens if you searched through my myriad of posts you would see I’ve often discussed my medical health and how it affects my life. Perhaps you should think before you post.

LolaSmiles · 26/06/2021 13:41

Isn't the joy of asking a bunch of people what they personally think is naff the variety of opinion and the likelihood that you yourself will be on the wrong side of naff for someone? It's just fun right?
That's what I thought. I've definitely done some of the things on this thread. It's a lighthearted thread, not a character assassination.

Sometimes on here it's impossible to have a lighthearted thread about what people think about clothes /interiors/style etc without half a dozen posters appointing themselves as the thread police telling everyone off for having opinions, or turning everything into a class argument.

Whilst we're at it, I think the crew clothing/Jack Wills wannabe upper middle class look is a bit naff. I also think designer clothing where the item is designed to say "LOOK AT ME I HAVE A DESIGNER ITEM" is a bit naff too, looking at you Vivienne Westwood ballet flats, Louis Vouiton monogrammed bags.

No I haven't AS you because a) that would be weird and creepy and b) it's not good MN etiquette

So I have no idea if you have a chronic health condition affecting your memory/comprehension or not. If you have then the advice I gave before stands and may be helpful for you

You having health problems does not give you the right to mock and judge others who may have different problems

00feckingbollocks · 26/06/2021 13:57

Well this thread went well Hmm

Oldraver · 26/06/2021 14:02

Awaits post of ' the woman I saw in a smiley face dress or the one covered in cats'

Yep that was naff me 😃

Jahebejrjr · 26/06/2021 14:15

The class argument is more exhausting for the people at the wrong end of it than mumsnetters posting on here.

LST · 26/06/2021 14:20

@justanotherneighinparadise

Yes it was the post where you likened people with chronic arthritis to people accidentally supergluing themselves into their leggings as an excuse for wearing sportswear when not exercising.

Well that’s not true is it? I said they absolutely could have a health condition along with a quip about superglue. Not the same thing at all.

I think.. you may just be the bellends I was referring to in my post. Try having a chronic illness and not dressing in easy to wear garments and shoes
neveradullmoment99 · 26/06/2021 14:23

Wearing sports wear as daily wear or to work!
As in lycha leggings and sports top and trainers. Just looks shit unless your at the gym or going to or from

neveradullmoment99 · 26/06/2021 14:23

Lycra

LolaSmiles · 26/06/2021 14:32

What's exhausting is a lighthearted thread about style and beauty getting hijacked by people seeking to turn in into a lecture on class politics.

The same thing happens on threads about interiors. Anyone mentions they don't like the all grey look with decals on the walls and inevitably the self-appointed class police wade in telling everyone off.

People are allowed to have opinions on different styles and discuss it. If people know they're going to get twitchy fingers and will find a lighthearted thread difficult, the solution is to scroll on by.

wowhie · 26/06/2021 14:36

The baby name threads & the "where should I live or go on holiday" threads are often incredibly classist but apparently it's far more offensive to not like grey walls, lip fillers or Kate Middleton shoes.

PurpleyBlue · 26/06/2021 14:39

If you started a thread called "naff places to go on holiday" or "naff places to live" I think you'd get similar posts telling people it's offensive to the people that live there.

LolaSmiles · 26/06/2021 14:46

But is it really breaking news that people think some things are nice and some things are naff?

I think some of the 'how to look expensive suggestions sound boring, think the trend for navy interiors will date, don't particularly understand why people buzz over Farrow and Ball paint being better than all others, and (whispers) think Centre Parcs is Butlins in the woods. Others will probably think things things like are a bit naff. People sharing opinions is hardly worth the anger that it triggers on here.

goose1964 · 26/06/2021 14:51

Any clothing with the brand pasted over it so it looks like, aren't I well off I can afford Lacoste etc .

wowhie · 26/06/2021 14:54

I'm not why it's so offensive to verbalise that some clothes or interiors are uncool or unstylish. It's just an opinion. Like I said upthread some people will think what I'm wearing today is awful, so what? Someone said they didn't like leopard prints or joggers, I love both. I'm not going to stop wearing them because someone else thinks it's naff.

Popcornbetty · 26/06/2021 15:00

'Wearing sports wear as daily wear or to work!

How can you differentiate? Confused

LiberteEgaliteBeyonce · 26/06/2021 15:05

@LunaTheCat

Anything that makes you unable to see the real person - so lots makeup/ bronzer/false eyelashes/fake nails - all at once.
This. Absolutely.

And that too. Totally agree.
SweetPetrichor · 26/06/2021 15:17

Fake women - the nails, the makeup, the extensions.
Fat people in leggings.
Shirtless men.
Crop tops.
Tracksuits.

LifeinPieces21 · 26/06/2021 15:27

I recently saw an attractive lady wearing lovely clothes but carrying a bag that was a loaf of bread with the packaging on. What are these?

XingMing · 26/06/2021 16:03

I am worried now, as I loathe wearing socks in summer... so most of my summer shoes must be offending someone. Oh dear.

Its shiny! Definitely sportswear.
neveradullmoment99 · 26/06/2021 16:06

Its also branded.

Zeldaaa · 26/06/2021 16:07

Can we see what bags people wear with anoraks that aren’t naff? I’m intrigued

neveradullmoment99 · 26/06/2021 16:07

We have people come into work wearing this. Most other people wear work appropriate clothes! [ I work in a school]
