Which engagement ring should I choose?

DH and I have had a horrendous year with lots of ups and downs. One of the downs was me losing my engagement ring which wasn't to my taste but meant a lot since it was from him. He's agreed to buy me another but this time I've insisted it'll be a joint venture and I'll have the final say since I'll be wearing it. The trouble is, all the rings I like, he hates. So I've made a shortlist and have decided that I like this one:

DH is disgusted and calls it an old lady ring (I'm mid 30s). What does everyone think? Is it over the top? Is it vulgar? I love it- the solitaires, trilogies, etc. just aren't doing it for this time around :/

@MrsBobDylan

I can't believe people are saying that first ring looks cheap!! It is beautiful. The second ring is so boring,

I don't think your dh should get a say op - that would infuriate me. Is he a bossy boots generally?

Thank you!

He's left it completely up to me but isn't shy of giving me his honest opinion when I ask! It's me- I'd like him to be happy with my choice too. I'm spending a lot of money so am scared of making a mistake if I choose the 'wrong' ring.

@SiobhanSharpe

I think the third ring you posted is lovely, very elegant, classic at first glance but quite different/unusual on closer inspection. What sort of carat weight is it? But It's what it looks like on your hand that matters.

It's a 1.25ct. It is very lovely with a better grade of diamond (colour and clarity) admittedly but I'm just not that keen on it :/ I've big hands with stumpy fingers 😂 so this ring will look really underwhelming when worn.

The first one is absolutely hideous. The second one looks too small.

@whichringshouldichoose

What about gemstone rings?

I've always loved emerald but my birthstone is Sapphire... love these rings but only in these settings.

These are nice and a bit unusual but how will you ear your wedding ring with them. They won’t sit together properly.
SkiingIsHeaven · 26/06/2021 17:22

Second one for me.

The first one reminds me of the mum rings from Argos. Sorry.

Second one lovely though.

@whichringshouldichoose

This is another one of our (my) shortlisted ones:
This one is amazing - not just a trilogy but it has that bit of extra je ne sais quois.
CorianderBee · 26/06/2021 18:10

I love Art Deco but that first one is fugly as hell. Good Lord it is hideous! The second isn't lively but is fine in a boring way.

frugalkitty · 26/06/2021 18:18

Third one for me, it's beautiful!

CorianderBee · 26/06/2021 18:37

Love the Emerald

midsomermurderess · 26/06/2021 19:21

I don't like the first one, the second one looks too small. Over all, my favourite is in the sixth photo.

mummymayhem18 · 26/06/2021 19:28

First one isn't very nice.

porkincider · 26/06/2021 19:32

That first ring really is awful. I love Art Deco jewellery but that looks like an Argos knuckle duster. The second ring is nice but a bit meh. The third ring is lovely though

porkincider · 26/06/2021 19:35

I like the blue gemstone ring you posted too. The emerald one is gorgeous but there are a lot in similar settings that are cheap knock off of Kate Middletown’s engagement ring (I know hers was sapphire rather than emerald but there’s still a lot of them).

Another lovely 3 stone
I can recommend keo or Adam from deal between us for great bargains and genuine antiques

raspberrycordial · 26/06/2021 19:45

People might wonder if you won the Super Bowl with the first one! I love Art Deco also, but much simpler styles, the third one is lovely and agree that Pippa Middleton's ring is gorgeous

Chisandbiscuits · 26/06/2021 19:55

Massive Art Deco fan here but that first ring is really ugly.

frogswimming · 26/06/2021 20:08

I love both of them. Get the one you love!!!

PegasusReturns · 26/06/2021 22:46

I love the first one.

I’ve bought from Weldon and Courtville, linked above. Matty at Courtville is very helpful and can source options if you have something particular in mind. (Weldons is run by his sibling).

mustlovegin · 27/06/2021 06:49

I like the Art Deco ring, but it needs a specific type of hand/finger (and overall wearer style) to look contemporary IMO

The Asscher trilogy is beautiful and probably a safer bet

Terrazzo · 27/06/2021 06:57

@HandforthParishCouncilClerk

That first one is hideous, sorry - it looks like you have a cheap diamanté belt buckle on your finger.
I agree I’m afraid. You could look for a similar ring that is more intricate? I don’t like how the 3 main stones are just plonked on.
VroomVrooom · 27/06/2021 09:16

It’s not Art Deco!!! Grin

Not singling you out, and as much as it may have been labelled ‘Art Deco’, it’s not Art Deco.

porkincider · 27/06/2021 09:21

It may be from the Art Deco period but it’s definitely not Art Deco in style. It’s Argos style.

LittleLottieChaos · 27/06/2021 09:38

@VroomVrooom you know that shell like ‘Art Deco’ ring you shared after googling and clicking on the first image to pop up is 100% not Art Deco? It’s so new, it hurts.
