Which engagement ring should I choose?

DH and I have had a horrendous year with lots of ups and downs. One of the downs was me losing my engagement ring which wasn't to my taste but meant a lot since it was from him. He's agreed to buy me another but this time I've insisted it'll be a joint venture and I'll have the final say since I'll be wearing it. The trouble is, all the rings I like, he hates. So I've made a shortlist and have decided that I like this one:

DH is disgusted and calls it an old lady ring (I'm mid 30s). What does everyone think? Is it over the top? Is it vulgar? I love it- the solitaires, trilogies, etc. just aren't doing it for this time around :/

Sorry the first one is definitely an old lady ring for sure. I like the one he’s picked or you can get one similar to the one you lost.

Themeparklover · 26/06/2021 02:12

second one, the first one is so obviously a joke

1forAll74 · 26/06/2021 02:13

I don't like either of the rings, but that matters non of course. But you should have a ring that you really like, and I have never personally known a man who is that interested in rings, and would make a comment, saying that he doesn't like a particular ring that you may like.

ART DECO

can never be TACKY 😱

good lord

Nancydrawn · 26/06/2021 02:37

What about a halo ring, like this? It sort of splits the difference, and there are plenty of designs out there. (Hasten to add, not my fingers!)

@Nancydrawn

Oohh stunning 💕

Nancydrawn · 26/06/2021 02:58

If you go on ebay, you can get a quite pretty one for under £250. It won't be perfect, but it may well be lovely.

VroomVrooom · 26/06/2021 03:11

Sorry - that first ring is NOT Art Deco. It is really, really not nice.

If you’re looking for something Art Deco, why not try a ziggurat feature…

Obviously your choice but I would say ring no1 is more of a dress ring. No 2 bit quite yes quite no - I do prefer your 3rd choice

MrsEricBana · 26/06/2021 03:57

The third one you posted is perfect (unless you are Elton John, in which case the first one)

RickiTarr · 26/06/2021 04:04

@Nancydrawn @VroomVrooom those are gorgeous. This is middle of the night vintage ring porn. 🤗

@whichringshouldichoose I think splitting the difference might be wise advice, both for DH diplomacy reasons and practicality work reasons.

This is similar to my ring. I still love it after 18 years. I don’t really like either of your first suggestions OP, especially the first one, but some of the vintage suggestions are really lovely.
BasiliskStare · 26/06/2021 04:50

@VroomVrooom - I really like your suggestion ( the zigurrate one ) After 25 years though I suspect DH may just slightly wonder why I need a new engagement ring Grin
I also think @Nancydrawn ' s is pretty. That said I had an engagement ring not too dissimilar - wore it for a day & took it back . I now have a more rub over style ( is that what it is called ? - but so much easier for not catching on things and so on - have worn it every day for more than quarter of a century )

VroomVrooom · 26/06/2021 04:59

The ring with the ziggurat feature is so lovely, and so very deco.

BasiliskStare · 26/06/2021 05:08

@VroomVrooom - I agree - very lovely. I would not swap mine for worlds now but that one you posted I think is really really nice.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 26/06/2021 05:45

Ohhh, I really like your third option. I quite like your first too - but I love quirky and vintage styles, particularly Art Deco.

I'm attaching a picture of mine, it's 30s and absolutely not to everyone's taste, but I love it. I've got big hands, so something more dainty might have looked silly.

This is another one of our (my) shortlisted ones:
This one is gorgeous!! Seems like a good comprimise between the 2 other styles

Another one (old ring)
Wow! What carat is this? Am assuming from the size it was insured and that's what's funding new ring? I like the halo one!
