Which engagement ring should I choose?

DH and I have had a horrendous year with lots of ups and downs. One of the downs was me losing my engagement ring which wasn't to my taste but meant a lot since it was from him. He's agreed to buy me another but this time I've insisted it'll be a joint venture and I'll have the final say since I'll be wearing it. The trouble is, all the rings I like, he hates. So I've made a shortlist and have decided that I like this one:

DH is disgusted and calls it an old lady ring (I'm mid 30s). What does everyone think? Is it over the top? Is it vulgar? I love it- the solitaires, trilogies, etc. just aren't doing it for this time around :/

I like the 3rd on your shortlist best

Toddlerteaplease · 26/06/2021 10:08

Not an engagement ring, but my friend bought me this.

I mean, I really don't like the first ring, but you do. It's so different to mainstream tastes that I imagine any other ring just wouldn't be so personal to your own sense of style.

It has to live on your ring - you should love it. You tried a more standard looking ring and you didn't love it, so why not go for this one?

Also, if it ever goes missing/gets stolen, it's got to be easier to trace given how distinctive it is!

bluebell34567 · 26/06/2021 10:24

i dont like neither.
maybe you could get something like Pippa Middleton's ring. its my favorite.

DizzySquirrel90 · 26/06/2021 10:27

First one is hideous - sorry.

SantaMonicaPier · 26/06/2021 10:38

I love the one you posted at 1.55!

ArsenicNLace · 26/06/2021 10:38

The first one looks like a knuckle duster! Awful.

Much prefer his choice with the three diamonds but you need to like it too.

BrilliantBetty · 26/06/2021 10:44

First one awful. I like the second one but will depend on the stones (clarity etc).

Simple is often more stylish. I'd go for fun / unique / colourful costume jewellery that you can wear, enjoy, replace.

BrilliantBetty · 26/06/2021 10:45

Costume jewellery in ADDITION to beautiful, classic engagement ring.

Ladylokidoki · 26/06/2021 10:49

@bluebell34567 I have never seen Pippa Middletons ring, but I agree. Its gorgeous 😍

Teddy1970 · 26/06/2021 10:50

I like the first one, very Art Deco, Pippa Middleton has a very similar one if I'm not mistaken.

@whichringshouldichoose

This is another one of our (my) shortlisted ones:
This one is stunning.
SylvanianFrenemies · 26/06/2021 11:05

The third one is best (the three stone one). Not a fan of the first. Maybe keep looking?

BeachSunsets · 26/06/2021 11:05

I prefer the 2 trilogy rings you showed. They will go with anything and will fit your wedding band too.

The first is quite clunky so one of the other 2 would be my preference.

Indoctro · 26/06/2021 11:29

The 3rd shortlisted one is by far the nicest, it's gorgeous

The first two are nae nice.

wizzler · 26/06/2021 11:31

Much prefer the third

whichringshouldichoose · 26/06/2021 12:54

Oh dear- belt buckle, knuckle duster, Elton John 😂😂😭 I'm laughing reading these but I still love the ring... will these photos help sway the haters?

Loving the suggestions for other styles of rings but I have massive fat hands and so need a ring with 'presence'.

For those questioning why I'm taking over the ring selection: I took my ring off in the third trimester of pregnancy and begged the husband to put it away since I was struggling at the time to remember what day of the week it was due to constant sickness, tiredness, etc. and didn't want the responsibility of looking after an expensive ring too. He kept promising he would but didn't. So I took the ring off and put it somewhere and it was never found again. In summary, I took it off (I 'lost' it) but he didn't keep it safe (as he promised). We didn't claim from the insurance company because it wasn't 'stolen' just lost somewhere at home. I'm hoping I find it again at some point but in the mean time, I need another ring...

@MichelleScarn- it was just over 2ct. Not an insurance job since it's 'lost' somewhere at home.

I still LOVE this ring... @whichringshouldichoose

I think it's beautiful 💕

whichringshouldichoose · 26/06/2021 13:05

What about gemstone rings?

I've always loved emerald but my birthstone is Sapphire... love these rings but only in these settings.

You've clearly got your heart set on the first one so go for that one! I think if you still love it after everyone saying they don't then it's definitely the ring for you!

I don't agree with the old fashioned thing of letting your husband choose your ring on his own anyway so I don't think you need to justify that either. I don't see why you shouldn't have a hand (no pun intended!) in choosing something that will be on your hand for the rest of your life and will probably bring you more pleasure to wear than your husband. It's also not a cheap investment so I don't get why you would want your wife to wear a ring purely because you've chosen it. Surely the romance is in your wife loving something you've bought her or contributed to. Very old fashioned to expect a woman to wear something purely to please a man and to put aside her opinion of the thing or it not to matter as much as his.

Thank you- clearly a person with good taste!

I like the first ring, especially now I’ve seen it on your finger/at a different angle. Always choose the one you love otherwise you’ll feel vague sometimes intense disappointment when you look at it, especially as it’s a second chance ring wise.

whichringshouldichoose · 26/06/2021 13:11

Ps. I've checked the authenticity certificate and it's definitely listed as an Art Deco ring in 18kt white gold. The diamonds are old or European cut (not considered the best in the diamond industry but I love how the old diamonds sparkle- there's a fire to them that the new ones just don't have IMO). The stones are slightly yellow (again, not ideal but I don't think it makes a difference to the ring when worn?

Thank you. It's different and having had a standard engagement ring (that I don't miss), I want something I really, really love and get joy from wearing.
