I so enjoyed the cocktail ring thread and noted so did quite a few others
What other lovely pieces have you bought, inherited or been given?

'Makes'.

LadyR77 · 24/06/2021 13:15

This is the necklace I wore on my wedding day - it's a family heirloom, originating from pre-revolution Russia, and I adore it.

Thanks - I think so! The pendant bit comes off and you can wear it as a brooch. I'll inherit it eventually, although not sure I'll ever have much occasion to wear it....but I can sit and admire it Grin

Thank you! Enjoyed those threads

Mine was a recent gift from my mum - have been having a really hard time recently, general stress was being massively added to by having my FIL with us recovering from surgery. She bought me this totally out of the blue from a tiny antique shop when we went for a pick-me-up coffee.

Did some digging and the setting is called a bypass set, ironically FIL was with us recovering from a triple heart bypass! Makes me smile every time!

@JaceLancs

A couple of years ago I lost a diamond bracelet whilst on holiday in Turkey - after a long battle I eventually got insurance payout that I was happy with - but have never found one as nice as the one I lost - so keep buying them and then sell on when I find a better one! This is nice enough to stay with me for a while! It was also a real bargain considering the amount of diamonds
Where do you sell and do you find overall that you make or lose money?
StatisticallyChallenged · 24/06/2021 17:22

Amethyst and diamond earrings and ring.

Thanks to this thread I've just gone down a rabbit hole of beautiful antique jewellery and have convinced myself I absolutely MUST have a ruby eternity ring for my birthday!

Whilst browsing I also saw a silver name plate from the 1800s with the name that a friend just named her baby girl, born today. It's not the sort of gift I would usually buy, do you think it's a good idea? Just such a coincidence!

MintyCedric · 24/06/2021 18:26

@StatisticallyChallenged those are beautiful

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 24/06/2021 18:29

It wasn't the name Matilda was it by any chance, notmethenwho? If so, I saw it too! But in any case, I think that would be a really thoughtful gift.

GeeIneverthoughtofthat · 24/06/2021 18:32

I bought this many moons ago in Hatton Garden.

GeeIneverthoughtofthat · 24/06/2021 18:33

Attaches photo this time!

My nana bought me this beautiful necklace on my christening day 32 years ago.. I'm terrified to wear it but I love getting it out and looking at it.

I inherited this 18ct gold necklace from Margot, a good family friend, & I wear it quite often.

This is so unusual and so beautiful. Love it.

I’m enjoying your stories as much as the beautiful jewellery
@SheepyToaster I’ve never made a loss yet
I sell to a few local jewellers who’ve become friends over the years or dealers at antique fairs - sometimes for cash but often to trade up
I occasionally sell on eBay but make sure starting price including commission gets me my money back
What matters most is the price you pay in the first place if you want to sell on in the future
Here’s another of the diamond bracelets that are staying for now!

Absolutely divine! What a great thread - love seeing all these beautiful pieces
MrsBobDylan · 24/06/2021 21:48

Oh my goodness, @JaceLancs, you own some stunning jewellery - I particularly love that last diamond bracelet.

I love so many pieces on this thread, the aquamarine and diamond ring is similar to a vintage one I own but yours is nicer @justasking111.

I am so jealous. Here are my vintage platinum and diamond rings:

I feel like I have found my favourite thread!

I collect antique jewellery but my sausage fingers have swollen this summer already so they are in the safe rather than on my hands.

This ring is one of my favourites. Art Deco sapphire and diamonds.
