I so enjoyed the cocktail ring thread and noted so did quite a few others
What other lovely pieces have you bought, inherited or been given?

@JaceLancs The sapphires in my ring are Burmese I believe. My nana lost one of them while digging up potatoes in the garden. Fortunately it was found a few days later at the bottom of the potato sack.

Iamanunsafebuilding · 25/06/2021 12:56

I had this pendant made from my gold and the diamonds from my Nana's rings. The bottom 3 were from her engagement ring and the top one from another ring (it's a lovely stone!). I love it and wear it every day

Some of these pieces are really beautiful. Especially love the ones with sentimental value or made with stones from family members.

Feeling a bit sad. My mum had an amazing collection of jewellery some of which she passed to me over the years. A few years ago we had a burglary and it was all stolen. Then a few months later my mum died Sad I so wish I had some of the jewellery especially rings to remember her by and pass down to my girls. One ring in particular was a beautiful emerald and diamond art deco style ring. It was just stunning and probably quite valuable.

The only thing the burglers didn't touch was a string of cultured pearls given to me by my mum on my 18th. I haven't worn them for years. I can't decide whether to use the pearls to have a different piece made up.
If you like vintage jewellery, this place is amazing: not cheap, but you can find some gorgeous pieces that you can keep as they are or (as I tend to do) have them taken apart to have something else made www.graysantiques.com/
Wow just had a look, such beautiful pieces @InTheNameOfAllThatIsHonest

Any other recommendations for vintage/pre-loved jewellery?

justasking111 · 25/06/2021 13:21

My MIL had a stunning jewellery and antique silver collection. She offered it all to us, we said no enjoy. She was burgled. Three months later so were we. It was all doomed. I still grieve over my stuff

justasking111 · 25/06/2021 13:22

Haunt jewellery shops, antique shops and haggle that's what I do

TTCAbroad · 25/06/2021 13:48

@bendmeoverbackwards I was also burgled a few years ago and lost quite a lot of sentimental jewellery - including a sapphire set I wore for my wedding that was inherited from my great grandmother. It’s one thing that’s been really difficult to try and get over. I really feel for you.

Pinkypink · 25/06/2021 15:07

This thread is lovely. Thank you op.
This is my favourite piece smuggled out of Austria by my great grandmother before the Nazis seized the rest of their things.... (a whole other thread)
I am named after her and have the exact same wrist size.
We have unfortunately been burgled and all they got was fake stuff I had left out.
The rest I have either locked away or for the stuff I wear often, put into little parcels which I hide separately in order to minimise risk of it all going
in a burglary. Some is in fridge. Some in box of tampax and other random places. Do have a panic every so often when I can't find them and worry I've thrown out the thing about were hiding in...

Wow that is amazing @Pinkypink

Pinkypink · 25/06/2021 15:31

Thanks. Didn't realise how bad my home made repairs look when enlarged. No one is prepared to fix it. Its not something any of the jewelers I have asked will do

JaceLancs · 25/06/2021 15:42

Sorry to hear about all your burglaries
I loved rooting in my Grans jewellery box as a child - costume as well as the real deal
I inherited it all when I was 18 but sadly all bar 2 things went in a burglary 3-4 years later
I got a very hefty payout but it ended up going towards the deposit on my first house and I said at the time - I would only have one or two pieces of outstanding jewels that I could wear all the time so as not to risk it happening again
Then over the years my collection has just grown and grown 😂

It's so sad to hear of all the burglaries you guys have suffered.

This is one of my recent buys. A vintage citrine dress ring.

So sorry for you too @TTCAbroad heartbreaking to lose something so precious.

Sorry if I killed the thread. Let's go back to seeing everyone's lovely jewellery.

bunburyscucumbersandwich · 25/06/2021 17:19

@JaceLancs

They are lovely Opal earrings *@Eaumyword* It’s not my birthstone but I do love opals and pearls despite people thinking they are unlucky
Apparently opals are unlucky as they break easily.
JaceLancs · 25/06/2021 17:22

My Opal and diamond earrings - I’ve been lucky and not had a broken one yet - although I did sell an Opal bracelet a while ago as I kept losing stones out of it

I would quite like something similar to this but would expect to pay less than £300

This is a diamond necklace bought with the insurance money after our burglary. I love it (probably more than the one it replaced!).

I have also just bought this from Clogau which I am debating about. It’s not high end, silver with a tiny sapphire but very pretty.

My dad gave this ring to my mum when she was pregnant with me. That's was 54 years ago. Mum gave it to me last year and I had to have it made bigger by 5 sizes.

@JaceLancs

I’m enjoying your stories as much as the beautiful jewellery *@SheepyToaster* I’ve never made a loss yet I sell to a few local jewellers who’ve become friends over the years or dealers at antique fairs - sometimes for cash but often to trade up I occasionally sell on eBay but make sure starting price including commission gets me my money back What matters most is the price you pay in the first place if you want to sell on in the future Here’s another of the diamond bracelets that are staying for now!
Oh no, you may have just given me a very expensive hobby!Grin

Does that rely on you finding things that are underpriced to begin with?

Love the bracelet.

SheepyToaster · 25/06/2021 18:09

@JaceLancs

I’m really enjoying this - there are some beautiful pieces I had these bangles made from scrap jewellery of DM DD and pieces from ex DH Originally the middle one had 7 diamonds taken from a flower shaped ring - then I lost yet another diamond bracelet (in a spa pool) they rescued part of it from the pools filter system and conveniently that bit also had 7 diamonds so I got my friendly jeweller to add them in as well!
Did you post about this? I remember a similar thread.
JaceLancs · 25/06/2021 18:45

@SheepyToaster yes I did post about it a while ago the pool never found any more bits and I had to wait till the jewellers re opened recently to have the stones put in bangle
I do rely on spotting a bargain - often things are priced per gold weight and not always price changed when gold goes up - I haggle quite well too - helped if they know I’m a regular buyer
Gold is quite high at moment I took an ankle chain (ex DP bought me years ago for £75) in for a repair last week and even I was surprised scrap value alone was nearly £500
