What white trainers are currently "in"?

I want to buy a pair of white trainers to wear with jeans and dresses for the summer as I'm bored of my Converse and Vans.

What white trainers are currently "in"? (Not that it matters, but I would like to know)

Thank you!

Air max 90?
I think once you reach a certain age if you wear certain shoes you can look like you're trying too hard.

Strugglingtodomybest · 08/06/2021 07:08

@winched

I buy the women's for keeping pristine if I'm going somewhere nice and the juniors for if I'm going somewhere they might get un-whited like a muddy rainy walk

What's the difference between the women's and the junior's? I'm just asking because I've just bought a pair of junior's but I was wondering whether I should be buying the women's?

I have a question for all the fashion followers: the crease. Now, when I were a lass, only the townies had sparkling white, uncreased trainers. If you were like me, more indie/grungey, you went out of your way to crease them and make them dirty. Is that still a thing???

I don’t think that’s true at all.

Someone in their 80s with bright pink hair, funky glasses and Lucy and yak dungarees can look amazing with Air Force ones on. (I know someone exactly like this!) it’s all about confidence and just going for it. I really hate this idea that high fashion is just for younger people.

BilboBercow · 08/06/2021 07:15

Lol at recommending Chanel and Balenciaga. Are people actually spending £700 for fucking white trainers?

EuroTrashed · 08/06/2021 07:21

@IjustbelieveinMe I bought axle arigato cleans and they were so blinking uncomfortable I had to send them back, though that was in the middle of lockdown and I couldn’t try different sizes. (I ended up with some ltd edition Adidas from the city collection- I got Paris which are tout chic but I wore them yesterday and am blistered to hell - is it possible my feet have shrunk???)

Anyway- the cool kids (not balenciaga selfridges shopping label types) in shoreditch still seem to love their New. Balance

weegiepower · 08/06/2021 07:22

Reebok club 35c, they're so comfy, really versatile and not super expensive, also very in right now

TeachesOfPeaches · 08/06/2021 07:28

New Balance are coming back into fashion

Nataliafalka · 08/06/2021 07:31

My late teens and all their friends are still in airforce ones. I like Veja, golden goose and Axel.

I do think the Stan smiths, Superga converse are far from “in” and I wouldn’t wear them but they’re pretty safe.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 08/06/2021 07:33

Just buy a pair of white plimsolls from Poundland and then draw whatever logo is 'in' on with felt tip pen. If you use water soluble pens you can wash the logo off when it is 'out' and put a different one on.

Zampa · 08/06/2021 07:36

Get a pair of German Army trainers. Adidas, Novesta and Margiela all do them at different price points.

My GATs are Adidas and I've not yet seen anyone else in a pair.

I find my Axel Arigato clean 90s extremely comfortable, however on the advice of very cool son I got some from Stepney Workers Club and I love them too

chillychicken · 08/06/2021 07:40

I am Grin that certain trainers are in or out.

I can’t say I’ve ever actually looked at someone’s feet and thought “gosh, how very 2015”.

Anyway, I find Superga to be comfy and a classic style to wear with a variety of outfits. If this makes me an unfashionable sort, so be it Grin

GlencoraP · 08/06/2021 07:40

I have just bought some Victoria trainers which I like . Don’t know if they would be trendy but am horrified by some of the ageism on this thread.

thesunwillout · 08/06/2021 07:51

Adidas superstars are my go to, and have been for 30 odd yrs.

I was in despair when all the kids started wearing them a few yrs back, it was awful. I just looked like I was trying to be in year 10.

I have them back now, they stayed in my shoe box and weathered the storm. We are united.

I have arch probs and have found this Leather style the most supportive and I'm able to put my insoles in them.

I've got about 6 pairs in rotation.

winched · 08/06/2021 07:59

What's the difference between the women's and the junior's?

One is £90 and the other is £50 GrinGrin

No honestly I think there is a difference... my women's ones feel higher? I think the sole is thicker but I'm not sure anyone would be able to tell unless they were some sort of trainer expert?

Also I'm not sure if that's because they're a slightly different style that isn't available in the juniors?

I have a question for all the fashion followers: the crease. Now, when I were a lass, only the townies had sparkling white, uncreased trainers. If you were like me, more indie/grungey, you went out of your way to crease them and make them dirty. Is that still a thing???

IME no... but in my indie / grungey phase I lived in boots and never ever trainers, so I'm not sure? I'm 29... maybe different years?

I honestly really hate a crease and do everything possible not to get one Blush.

My DDs live in AF1s too, youngest takes ages to get a crease and for some reason oldest comes home from school on the first day creased to hell.

Mine are 4 months old (these are the ones I wear most days, not the 'perfect' ones I keep, so they have a little acceptable crease Grin) versus DDs are 6 weeks old... and I feel like hers are only good for playing out in now 🙈.

If you try not to crease them I do think they look really nice for a long time. I don't really like the DAZZLING WHITE NEW TRAINERS look but I think there's something just underneath that level that looks perfect.

In my humble opinion of course Grin

EuroTrashed · 08/06/2021 08:03

Pink tonic - the problem with the Axels is that they don’t do half sizes so it’s purely fit- they are beautifully shaped inside unlike converse / veja

UnluckyMe · 08/06/2021 08:05

The gucci ones are nice and I've seen some Tommy ones on the cheap.

yoshiblue · 08/06/2021 08:09

@thesunwillout 🤣 re: Superstars. I have a lovely light grey pair that are brand new boxed under my bed, waiting for the teenagers next door to stop wearing them!

@ARoseGarden my last pair of whites are Supergas but they've not very comfy. I tend to mostly buy trainers from the Adidas site. The range is massive and there are always sales and discount codes around. Wouldn't give two hoots what is 'in fashion' I choose what I like the look of and know Adidas will be more comfortable than fashion trainers.

kurtney · 08/06/2021 08:12

I'm in my 40's and I wear AF1's. I love them but they do feel a bit heavy on the feet in the summer.

As for converse and vans not being 'in', they're all my teenage kids will wear, but then my 17 yr old ds is heavily into the skateboarding culture and that's what they're made for. It's not all about walking down the high street in a pair of pristine trainers showing off the label.

QuentininQuarantino · 08/06/2021 08:13

The sixth formers I teach are wearing platform converse, Air Force ones and the blazer style and the cool girl has vejas.

I’m always torn between wanting to dress young and not wanting to end up wearing the same as them! In the end I bought all white vejas as the chunky ones look to hot for summer. They are uncomfortable though.

Well leave it a decade or so and they’ll be retro and come back in again 😁

These are the white trainers I’m wearing at the moment.

Jojoanna · 08/06/2021 08:21

I wear supergra and they are never white for long

ShirleyPhallus · 08/06/2021 08:22

Why is everyone letting the teens and 20 somethings set trends?! It’s madness!

hanahsaunt · 08/06/2021 08:24

I am loving my new white on white Novesta Star Masters which score highly on the ethical front as well as looking lovely. They haven't gone outside yet so no idea about keeping them white.
