Women you think are ageing beautifully with no intervention

Hi,

So I was watching This Morning and Sharon Marshall was on and I was thinking she must be 50 now and looks absolutely incredible. Not that you can't look incredible at 50, whether you actually look 50 or 30!! This isn't age bashing ATALL, but I just thought how refreshing it was to see a woman looking so good, with no hint of the pillow face, which more and more women seem to be getting these days to fight off the wrinkles.

I'm not anti botox, fillers etc, but I do worry that so many women feel pressure to have this look, rather than daring to grow old/er naturally, because that's what we see as the norm.

Anyway, this isn't an anti anything thread, I just wondered who you thought was growing older particularly beautifully, naturally.

She goes from looking rough to amazing in a blink.

I don't think Kate Winslet has had anything done to her lips. They've always looked like that. And she's been very outspoken against the pressure on women in film to diet, be photoshopped in magazines, have surgery etc.
She was bloody amazing in Mare of Easttown. Best role of her career. Can't wait to see what she does next.

Serpenta · 04/06/2021 21:39

I think Kate Winslet had a nose job way back in the day but that seems standard for the industry, I'm sure they don't let you past passport control in Hollywood until you've had that done.

@Gwenhwyfar

" If I remember correctly black skin ages slower than white skin - I can't remember why!"

I think 'black don't crack' is the expression. Thicker skin?
Men have thicker skin than women too.
East Asian people are also said to age more slowly or as my colleague says look young until you get to a certain age and suddenly start looking really old.

Apparently it is partly due to the extra melanin protecting the skin from UV and also black people have denser bones and the bone loss in our faces is what makes the cheeks etc start to sag. Not sure if that is the same for Asian people though.

Joanna Lumley looks like an older woman, but very beautiful. She has the great bone structure of course and, being in the media, will no doubt have a little ‘help’, but she hasn’t over done it has she?

catfunk · 05/06/2021 00:25

Thandie Newton and Emma Thompson

princessTiasmum · 05/06/2021 11:09

Eastie17 Gillian Taylforth has had a thread lift and maybe more look on youtube
Not good at posting links but can be seen on YT

StevieNix · 05/06/2021 12:50

Jessica lang! I think she's absolutely stunning!

heyho2015 · 05/06/2021 12:58

I watched the French series 'Call my agent' on Netflix. Filled with beautiful women, looking their age, but so attractive and glamorous. Made me realise how used to that certain American version of attractive we've got used to seeing on our screens.
Oh, and they had glasses of red wine with their lunches!

ADialgaAteMyDog · 05/06/2021 13:21

Rose Byrne had a moving forehead in Peter Rabbit 2, I couldn't believe it! She is also Very beautiful and funny, no fair

Serpenta · 05/06/2021 13:27

@StevieNix

Jessica lang! I think she's absolutely stunning!
Was until she had all that surgery.
Purpleblondelady · 05/06/2021 13:35

I agree with @MargotsBumpyNight Iris Apfel and I would have said Helen Mccrory too.
SJP
Philippa Perry
Helena Bonham Carter
(Fizz from Corrie too just to lower the tone Grin)

I need to take something from this thread and stop worrying about how old I think I look, because I'm too chicken to get anything done. I do use SPF50 everyday and I'm veggie, hopefully they'll help.

Blossomtoes · 05/06/2021 19:38

I’m not too chicken to have anything done, I’m too vain! I really like my face and the thought that I’ll have stuff done to it and ruin it appals me.

Purpleblondelady · 05/06/2021 23:42

Maybe once I started I wouldn't know when to stop and I'd be constantly wanting to correct something else. I need to accept that I am who I am!

MissCruellaDeVil · 06/06/2021 00:15

Myself, although I am early 20s, I look miles better than I did in my teens, just a natural glow up, better fashion and more confidence.

Serpenta · 06/06/2021 00:22

'early 20s'

okay

Justmeandthetv · 06/06/2021 03:30

Two who haven't been mentioned who I really admire for their talent and graceful looks:

Lesley Manville-her face is beautiful and she has been vocal against the use of cosmetic procedures, as she wants her face to remain fully expressive.

Susie Dent-ultimate girl crush. She's fun, clever and beautiful.

Agree also with Fiona Shaw, Kristin ST, Suranne Jones and Michelle Obama.

Serpenta · 06/06/2021 04:17

Lesley Manville GLOWS. Especially in Mum.

Love her.

Baycitystroller · 06/06/2021 07:36

Loads of these women have had work. It’s not just wrinkles as you age, it’s the jawline sagging. So I reckon a tightening of the skin in this area is common for older actresses. No way can you avoid the sag.....speak from experience here!

Pinuporc · 06/06/2021 08:36

Susie Dent-ultimate girl crush. She's fun, clever and beautiful.

Susie Dent literally looks the same as she did 25 years ago!

again2020 · 06/06/2021 08:41

Surprised the Spice girls haven't really been mentioned. Geri and Emma look great and Mel C...oh my goodness, she looks incredible at 47! She's my body inspiration.

Diane Morgan. Tamsin Greig and Gillian Anderson. Obviously Helen Mirren too

PandoraP · 06/06/2021 08:56

Lisa Faulkner

Agree a lot of these women would have had subtle work done and done something about sagging jawline.

Branster · 06/06/2021 08:58

Sophia Loren without a shadow of doubt.
When she smiles even at her age now, she brings a sparkle to the world around her.
Although I think you'd have to start with looking beautiful, incredibly attractive or striking when you are young to age in that way. It's also the way women carry themselves when they walk/move. And Sophia has incredible grace in her movements and always had good posture.

pattyparsnip · 06/06/2021 09:00

Also Lisa snowdon looks great . I follow her on Instagram and if she has had work done it's very natural .

Branster · 06/06/2021 09:02

Yes to Call My Agent and French cinema in general. Much more natural starting with normal teeth not the Hollywood standard.
Italian actresses though are in a league of their own, I have no idea how they can look so stunning at every age, maybe they're naturally telegenic it's like a different species.
