Women you think are ageing beautifully with no intervention

Hi,

So I was watching This Morning and Sharon Marshall was on and I was thinking she must be 50 now and looks absolutely incredible. Not that you can't look incredible at 50, whether you actually look 50 or 30!! This isn't age bashing ATALL, but I just thought how refreshing it was to see a woman looking so good, with no hint of the pillow face, which more and more women seem to be getting these days to fight off the wrinkles.

I'm not anti botox, fillers etc, but I do worry that so many women feel pressure to have this look, rather than daring to grow old/er naturally, because that's what we see as the norm.

Anyway, this isn't an anti anything thread, I just wondered who you thought was growing older particularly beautifully, naturally.

Tamsin Greig. Clearly.

Jo Brand.
Kathy Burke.

Beauty shines out of them all when they smile. A real beauty.

Did anyone see Bonnie Langford on Masked Dancer last night? She clearly hasn’t touched her face but my goodness she’s looked after her body. Not only did she do the splits but she had her ankle up round her ear. And she’s nearly 60 - I want to be her!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 06/06/2021 12:48

Bonnie was ruddy amazing!

I thought all through it was Maisie Smith (I watched mostly on fast forward though as I’ve not enough hours in the day at the mo - so missed most of the clues!)

She’s looked after herself bloody well.

But I can tiuck my legs under me on the sofa occasionally and do jazz hands …

How could I forget Charlotte Rampling??!? Incredible-looking individual. She did a Guardian interview/photoshoot recently and the clothes –she looked amazing.

Absolutely. She's so elegant, cool and classic. She has an almost ethereal other-world prescence about her & a fab actress. I must track down her Guardian article. Love your username btw!Grin

Some of my best work (in my humblest opinion) was on a thread this morning. It was deleted.

I’m bereft!!! 😩

JaneJeffer · 06/06/2021 18:03

Feck it I missed that!

Women are criticised whatever they do. They're support to age well, but NATURALLY of course.

Amiable · 06/06/2021 18:08

Helen Mirren. Looks fab, and has a great attitude - "at 70 years old, if I could give my younger self one piece of advice it would be to say "fuck off" much more frequently"

Serpenta · 06/06/2021 18:10

(helen mirren did have a facelift though)

wheresmymojo · 06/06/2021 18:10

@Serpenta

Jennifer Aniston looked like she was defying the ageing process for so but I think the thing with fillers is that there comes a tipping point where your face suddenly looks puffy and 'off'. Too much filler has accumulated over time.

Christy Turlington hasn't had anything done, her face has lines and crinkles. Still absolutely beautiful of course. But it must take some determination for a supermodel to say no to all that.

There was a study done showing that while women are encouraged to have their filler topped up every 6 months filler actually takes years to break down and can be seen on MRI scans 5, 6, 7 and even 10 years later.

What happens is it actually kind of spreads and moves a bit so it looks like it's 'gone' but it hasn't.

And yes, having regular top ups leads to the weird puffy face for this reason.

Previous filler needs to actually be broken down by having the antidote injected.

Love everything about Gillian Anderson. If she’s had work it’s beautifully done.

Watched a film with Helen Hunt in last week and I was shocked that she could have let whoever it was, do that to her face. Really, very strange looking. So sad.

Me. I’m ageing well. Don’t mean to boast but bollocks to it, I will. Have had a shocking 18 months and felt like I’d aged rapidly. We’ve all been through it, haven’t we? Awful times. Yesterday, out meeting up with family and looked great for my nearly 60! So, when my mum used to tell me “let the sun at you, you’re SO pasty” and I’d be rubbing in the spf, I am vindicated 😉

She’s definitely had some work, gorgeous as she is.
LemonDrizzles · 06/06/2021 20:41

Jo Brand. 100%

catfunk · 06/06/2021 20:45

Whoever said susie dent - crikey she's got a terrible case of pillow face.

TuvoknotSpock · 06/06/2021 21:35

Another vote for Gillian Anderson. Anything she has had done is subtle and she s got a wrinkle or two but looks so great

CherryRipe1 · 06/06/2021 22:27

Intermittentparps Thank you! She looks amazing & a very interesting article. She's lived some life, Bohemian with panache.
