I need to invest in some summer dresses to wear with white trainers or flat leather sandals.

Early 40s, size 12-14.

[quote Dellabob123]I’m jumping in and adding that this thread has cost me a lot of money today!!!

I just bought the m and s o e posted below and umm if over this warehouse one that someone mentioned ...but, can someone tell me how to wear it for sunny day time wear? Can it be dressed down? It’s so pretty and I want but just not sure I’m brave enough. Cardi? Denim jacket? Trainers or sandals?
Here’s the link

I bought this in orange. I have worn it under a denim jacket but I had to take a bit of time to sort the frills out underneath.
Dressed down in the day I’d wear it with flat sandals and maybe a long, boho necklace.

Now I do like that in navy - is that a no bra situation though? Do the ruffles cover the nipples?
I love the back of it but fear it would be way too long. How tall are you both?

I’m 5 foot 4
I wore it with a black bra. I don’t mind people seeing my bra so long as it’s clean and it contrasts a bit. I wore black sandals and a black bag to attempt to make it look like it was a considered choice.

I’m pregnant so my boobs are completely out of control and no-bra is not an option. In a few summers when I’m not pregnant or breastfeeding I will wear it with a stick on bra.
The frills do not cover the nipples xx

JMAngel1 · 02/06/2021 07:48

Thanks @AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken
I'm 5ft 3 so going to order it - I might put a lacey bralet under it in a contrasting colour - maybe a lime green.

Good idea! It might be a bit long on you but nothing a slightly stacked heel won’t fix
Dellabob123 · 02/06/2021 08:05

I’m 5ft and 40 and if there’s a bra situation then it’s prob not for me. But it’s gorgeous and I want.

I also bought the mango dress as well...

mellongoose · 02/06/2021 08:20

Great thread. I have this in the non maternity version (but can't find the link)!

pencilpot99 · 02/06/2021 08:28

@mildlymiffed love that, but it's sold out in my size Sad Will have to purchase the stargazer one instead Grin Thanks!

Is there a lot of boobage on show with the warehouse dress?

PigeonStreet37 · 02/06/2021 08:51

I have this, also from Mango. I am not as tall and slim as the model Grin but I'm very happy with it. It hangs well, iyswim.

I'm a size 14-16, 5'1" tall and have bought these dresses to dress up with heels and ankle boots or dress down with white vans or flat/wedge sandals

I am very aware I have a type Grin

Judy - definitely XS. I'm a 14 and the XS is fine. It will obviously be looser on you, but it's so lovely and lightweight that I don't think that will matter.

RachyAnn34 · 02/06/2021 10:06

Hi MsSquiz, they look lovely dresses, can i ask where you got them from, they look just right as I'm quite short and maxi dresses are too long on me.

lollipoprainbow · 02/06/2021 10:35

I ventured into primark yesterday hoping to buy a gingham dress and nothing !!

EllaPaella · 02/06/2021 12:13

@Horehound I had an email from DHL that it's being delivered today, I only ordered it yesterday. I'll let you know what the quality is like when it arrives.

Horehound · 02/06/2021 12:48

@EllaPaella oh cool wow that's fast isn't it?! Hope it's good!!

For me, yes. Although, I wouldn’t bat an eyelid on someone else.
I think it’s more because my boobs have gone up about three cups in the same amount of months so I feel very pornographic at the moment.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 02/06/2021 13:14

I love this thread!

At 5ft, size 12-14 with big boobs this has been sooo helpful. I have ordered the Mango dress to try and a couple from Lands End (40% off!!)

https://www.landsend.co.uk/WomensSleevelesssTieredMaxiiDress/pp/P_42153.html

https://www.landsend.co.uk/WomensCotton-modallJerseyTwisttWrapMaxiiDress/pp/P41219.html

I would LOVE suggestions of wide leg trousers for someone short and fat like me (might be for a different thread though!)

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 02/06/2021 13:15

Warehouse have a few pieces of gingham

www.warehousefashion.com/gingham-midi-dress/AWW00588-2.html?color=130

Albeit 5 times the cost of a primary dress

MsSquiz · 02/06/2021 14:05

@RachyAnn34 the top 2 are from silk fred and the other 3 are from shein.

Admittedly the shein ones were super cheap and are polyester, but I didn't want to spend lots on a few summer dresses.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 02/06/2021 14:34

I did buy this one recently too.
I know Saint and Sofia have mixed reviews on here:

uk.saintandsofia.com/collections/dresses-skirts/products/greenwich-dress-amber

It's very long on me but somehow it works!

@YouHaveNoAuthorityHereJackie

this in a white and blue pattern which seems to have disappeared off the website. One of the most flattering dresses I’ve had for years though the big boobed old gimmer in me wishes the straps were slightly thicker to hide my bra straps.
I have this from last year in a lemon print, it's a great dress and fully lined which is a nice surprise.
