I need to invest in some summer dresses to wear with white trainers or flat leather sandals.

Early 40s, size 12-14.

Pictures and links all gratefully received Smile

@Rollerbird

Thanks Grin Pretty much sold out, but I don't think it would suit me.

I like this apart from the tie across the back. I wonder if I could remove it.

AuldAlliance · 17/06/2021 06:56

I've been looking at this, which I like because it's viscose and cotton. Can't wear polyester.

Does anyone who sews know how easy it would be to remove the ruffles at the sleeves? I could get it done, rather than hack them off myself.

It's 89e, and free shipping starts at 90e, which is very annoying.

mintylovely · 17/06/2021 16:40

Love my Mango dress, I've been looking for something like this for years!

AnnieSnap · 17/06/2021 16:57

@AuldAlliance I really like that. I even like the ruffles. Maybe when you try it with them, you will.

AuldAlliance · 17/06/2021 18:26

@AnnieSnap
It looks nice, doesn't it?
I am really, really not a ruffly person and I know shoulder ruffles are a bit tricky to to iron and keep looking nice throughout the day, which would annoy me. I also have quite wide shoulders on a slim frame, and they're very muscly after months of Pilates to ward off lockdown insanity, so I think ruffles would look very odd.
Might order it and see, though Smile

AnnieSnap · 17/06/2021 18:38

@AuldAlliance It’s great that you have developed through pilates. I see what you are saying. Unless you find they do work, there may be a stitched seam for them that you can unpick. Otherwise, for those of us who are not skilled in the ways of dressmaking, I’d be inclined to sent it to someone who does professional alterations. A google of ‘alterations near me’ should find someone. I bet it will look great without the ruffles to.

Belindabelle · 17/06/2021 22:06

I say go with ruffles.

I don’t know what has happened but last week I was 52 and owned 2 summer dresses that were at least 5 years old and this week I am still 52 but own 5 summer dresses and I am tempted by at least 2 more.

I live in Scotland, where today it was a balmy 18, which is about as good as it gets, and I have no plans to go on holiday.

SunscreenCentral · 17/06/2021 22:06

[quote Yourownpersonaljesus]I bought these recently but I am 10 years older than you so you might not like them. Haven't worn any of them yet but they all looked nice when I tried them on. I'm the same size as you.

Hi @Yourownpersonaljesus (or anyone else whose bought it! Smile I was wondering what the fit & fabric is like in the Boden Odile t-shirt dress? I'm 5'6 148lbs and large of nork... would the 14 be ok do you think?

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 17/06/2021 22:11

I've just got this one. Hope it looks and fits well https://uk.maje.com/en/ready-to-wear/collection/dresses/221rapsodia/MFPRO01794.html

MathsFiend · 17/06/2021 23:05

I’ve ordered these two dresses from Ted Baker, hopefully look good on.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 18/06/2021 07:49

The green Next dress in the smaller size was much better - even thought about ordering a size 8 just to see if It would be better. Next sizing has gone a bit strange - have found the last few size 12 items I've ordered have been too big but I've always been a 12 with them and my size 12 dresses from 2 years ago are fine.

Anyway I love the green dress so much that I've now ordered the blue as well.

bananamonkey · 18/06/2021 08:50

I love summer but hate summer dressing as I feel fat, pale and frumpy in everything but Ice just got these two and I really like them!

Anyone who returned the mango dress had a refund yet? It’s been 2 weeks bow and nothing

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 18/06/2021 09:55

@ImbarbaraB Yes I returned mine and got the refund quite quickly, less than a week

ImbarbaraB · 18/06/2021 19:09

I contacted mango as the tracking confirmed it had been delivered back to them 8th June and they’ve told me that yes they have it but they won’t issue a refund until it gets to Spain in their distribution centre and to allow up to another 14 days.
Ridiculous

I won’t order from them again

MoltonSilver · 18/06/2021 19:12

I have that next dress. I went down 4 sizes in it, which is utterly ridiculous.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 18/06/2021 19:21

Hi @SunscreenCentral I am a very similar size to you (5'7, 146lb) and the 14 fits me perfectly. I have average/ small boobs though. The jersey fabric is a nice weight for the summer. I've worn it a few times now and it's nice and cool and comfy. I think it looks nice too.

stclair · 18/06/2021 20:53

I wore this out the other night (just before the heavens opened!) and I love it.

Are you very tall? The model is 5'10" and the dress is nearly down to her ankles.

stclair · 19/06/2021 08:18

I’m around 5’10”. I thought it would be way too long when I opened it but it does come above my ankles fortunately!

TheOrigRights · 19/06/2021 13:13

It was made for you then! I'm 5'8" and I think those 2 inches would make quite a difference.
The fabric does look lovely and floaty.

Do you mean the next green dress? @MoltonSilver
Dogscanteatonions · 21/06/2021 08:59

Just ordered the green Next dress hopefully it won't come up too big! More stock in now and two more colours.

Just ordered this from Dancing Leopard too www.dancingleopard.co.uk/products/dove-dress-in-bamboo

Dryadia · 21/06/2021 11:35

I am wearing this after managing to buy a BWT on ebay for £20 ($99 on site) Grin

holyclothing.com/collections/boho/products/fiona-sleeveless-maxi-dress

I really want this one but am waiting until I have hit my target weight. Unfortunately very popular and doesn't seem to come up on UK ebay very often. At my age I prefer short sleeves but will bid on any dress that fits! Grin
