I include Superga and leather plimsolls as 'trainers'. When people say trainers then, do they mean actual sporty ones? I'm not as keen on that look tbh, although I do really like the big chunky ones that are about now (have loved chunky trainers ever since the 90s!)

I wish I could wear this look but at 5ft3 and size 12 it just makes me look very short and fat especially as most dresses are designed for people 6 inches taller than me. Sad

Really? I'm also those things (when not pregnant) and think I look rather lovely in this sort of style! Agree a lot of dresses can be long but plenty out there fit fine

Tanfastic · 01/06/2021 11:38

Prefer floaty dresses with sandals personally, I just look fat and frumpy with trainers and dresses. Fine on other people though.

Same! I'm 5.5 and a 14. Anything clumpy on my feet with a dress just makes me feel bigger.
notacooldad · 01/06/2021 11:42

Its my all round uniform virtually.
Dark dress and cardi and black Nike in winter and floaty dress and denim jacket white Nike in summer. Its easy for work!

julieandertoninthewarehouse · 01/06/2021 11:48

@homemadefries have you seen the Next one that's made for bigger boobs? ihave the same issue & was thinking if giving it a try - although I don't think it looks particularly flattering on the model buttoned up, I wouldn't wear it like that anyway

Same here - at 5’ 1” and size 10-12 the whole dress and trainer combo looks awful on me Sad

Can us shorties just wear midis for maxis? And for the feel, plimsolls/pumps instead of trainers?
TableNiner · 01/06/2021 13:12

It’s a classic look with a great balance of dressy and casual and suits a lot of different ages and shapes.

It’s not for me though. I haven’t any dresses, denim jackets pull badly over my bust and feel awkward and when it’s hot I want my feet out in sandals - there are plenty of stylish, flat, comfortable ones. I hate wearing trainers in hot weather.

VioletCharlotte · 01/06/2021 13:15

I'm so happy this look has survived! I love being able to go out in white trainers and not feeling the need to wear uncomfortable shoes.

You'd look fine - those of us who are short (I'm smaller than you!) tend to get misled because every model is about 6ft tall, so we think we'll not look as good! Rarely true.

Yes I think that's fair about plimsolls rather than proper trainers.

I've found some maxi dresses fit ok although maybe they are meant to be midi ok other people Grin

Definitely my uniform of choice. I lost my SewJo once I gained some lockdown weight last year and the thing that got me back into it was all the lovely floaty dresses, and wrap skirts, so each to adapt and cinch in once I finally lost the weight again 😁 my white trainers have seen better days though

Empressofthemundane · 01/06/2021 17:57

A comfortable dress with Comfortable shoes is never going away.

SmoggieC · 01/06/2021 18:02

@amymel2016

I noticed in town on Saturday loads of women wearing gorgeous dresses, floaty dresses, skimpy slip dresses, bodycon, short, maxi, midi, all different body types and ages. It was WONDERFUL, I think the pandemic has helped people embrace who they are and everyone just feels lucky to be able to go out.
Exactly this! I don't kbow why people start these nasty posts having a dig
Toomuchtrouble4me · 01/06/2021 18:37

It’s popular here on the isle of Wight too - love it. Only the very large ladies seem to prefer the flesh coloured leggings and a crop top, or the g-string shorts and tattoos.
But it’s sunny and everyone is happy so all good.

Bangolads · 01/06/2021 18:37

What an extremely odd thing to post. It sounds like you’re sneering at people. I find that so sad, weird and bitter. You mean fashion? The thing that’s been around for literally thousands of years? Where styles and trends come and go all the time through the decades. Well done on spotting one, you sound like a genius.

Guavafish · 01/06/2021 18:42

I think trainers coming from walking during the lock down

Inserthiliarioususernamehere · 01/06/2021 18:47

Well I feel attacked! 😂 that’s been my look for the last 10 years though, and converse, not those hideous white moon boot trainers that are the fashion now.

MajorMakeover · 01/06/2021 18:52

I think this look is really nice and I am wearing this myself. I’ve spent a lot of time overseas and honestly, the Brits really don’t know how to dress well, especially in the summer. It’s a horror show. So, floaty dresses and trainers is a marked improvement IMO.

OhGodNotThisAgain · 01/06/2021 18:54

Trainers are hideous. I hope some new better shoes will come into fashion for the brainless to wear

keeptheaspidistra · 01/06/2021 18:59

I see the bitchy busy body commentary has survived the pandemic.

Friendofdennis · 01/06/2021 19:01

Floaty dress. White trainers. Hat in hand. I love having a teenager to admire from afar
