@OrangePowder

It's comfortable and practical, about time women embraced fashion like that rather than clothes they can't do anything in.
YES!

I came to the realisation a few years ago that clothes aren't solely to be chosen because they make me look better.

I can also wear them because they just make me feel happy. And if that means having my arms out, then so be it.

I don't live by it by any means, but I do try to push myself. I hate this notion that there are 'correct' ways to dress. And the rules...I love a horizontal stripe, and if someone's eye is offended by being alerted to my wideness that's their issue.

@SoMuchForSummerLove

I actually wore this outfit for the first time ever yesterday and felt pretty nice. A bit less now...
Nah, take no notice of the OP, it's a lovely look on anyone xxx

@Serpenta

I think summer trends endure for longer because summer is such a short window that people think 'oh I only got a fortnight's wear out of this last year, I'm definitely wearing it again this summer'.

And getting a breeze up a maxi skirt is a delight.

So true. Love a little unexpected waft!
amymel2016 · 31/05/2021 12:31

I noticed in town on Saturday loads of women wearing gorgeous dresses, floaty dresses, skimpy slip dresses, bodycon, short, maxi, midi, all different body types and ages. It was WONDERFUL, I think the pandemic has helped people embrace who they are and everyone just feels lucky to be able to go out.

OrangePowder · 31/05/2021 12:33

I've just bought my first ever pair of white trainers Grin It's taken me a while to accept that middle aged women can wear trainers with dresses.

I blame MN. When I was first here, there was abject horror at the idea of any grown up woman wearing trainers, if not playing sport.

Thankfully times have changed.

Where have I said anything bad? Apart from being a little bored by it? I've also said it's a lovely look...

Like going out in long johns and a bra. Doesn't sound good.

gagrag · 31/05/2021 12:42

Its been around years but can't see it changing for years. It's comfortable

LawnFever · 31/05/2021 12:43

I wore exactly this in Manchester on Friday night and there were loads of different styles people were wearing, some trainers, some heels/boots, jeans, body con dresses, was just lovely to see everyone enjoying being out Smile

So don’t wear it, I think it looks nice and I much prefer it being acceptable to wear trainers out that buggering about with heels Smile

Postdatedpandemic · 31/05/2021 12:48

I think that after a year of pjs, lounge wear and being very washable people are just embracing what makes them happy.

3CCC · 31/05/2021 12:49

I love the look but dresses that length look really unflattering on me

Purplecatshopaholic · 31/05/2021 12:50

It’s a nice look for most shapes and easy to wear - it’ll be around a while longer. But I think anything goes just now actually as we emerge blinking into the daylight of a post-lockdown era, and want to just wear what we want to wear.

Mypathtriedtokillme · 31/05/2021 12:51

Not wearing heels for ages has meant I can’t wear them any more because it hurts too bloody much.
Flat shoes all the way, ive taken a fancy to brogues with dresses.

Sneakers are comfortable and mean I can run away from the coming zombie apocalypse. (That’s still coming right?)

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 31/05/2021 12:51

I was wearing this kind of thing in the 90s!

I've also said it looks nice.. so not sure what you're on about

I like this look. So much better than heels and body con dresses. I also think it suits most people, young and old, and is practical.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 31/05/2021 12:53

And getting a breeze up a maxi skirt is a delight.

Getting a wasp up one is less entertaining, which is what happened to me the summer before lockdown. Yeek!

90s fashion is back, haven't you heard? Grin

I went into town wearing maxi dress and trainers yesterday, an ensemble I have been sporting for the last 15 years - fresh and comfy. I expected every man and his dog to be wearing the same but town was rammed and I did not see (or register) a single other person wearing this. Was very surprised, but like PP have said, there was such a mix of styles and I found it very refreshing.

nowlook · 31/05/2021 12:55

@Floisme

Grin I saw all kinds of looks on Saturday: floaty dresses and trainers, bodycon dresses, shorts, pinafore dresses, dungarees, jumpsuits, culottes, flares. I even saw some skinny jeans Wink

I found it all rather wonderful.

Agreed! It has a "we're out and that's all that matters" feel to it.

(with apologies to anyone in the Derbyshire area who witnessed my Maison Scotch c.2014 jumpsuit yesterday)

ClairKingston · 31/05/2021 12:56

I never thought trainers on ladies while wearing skirts or dresses would be acceptable as a good look but so glad it is and hope it stays! Trainers are so good for feet support and after years of wearing summer flat ballet pumps which looked nice but were rubbish for support, I threw them all out and now wear trainers.

Long floaty skirts and dresses are so lovely and I wear them often. I see ladies wearing some gorgeous ones and am tempted to ask them where they bought them.

MintyMabel · 31/05/2021 12:56

Given some of the states I saw in Edinburgh this weekend, this "uniform" would have been a welcome sight.

I don't think OP was being horrible, it is funny that usually trends change, but this combo has withstood the length of the pandemic and is still going strong. It used to be a floral dress with leather jacket and converse when I was at sixth form and uni
