@SymphonyofShadows

I apparently always dress like a Spanish widow with a splash of Bet Lynch. I could work this in a black/leopard combo I suppose
A splash of Bet Lynch? I’m more a squirt of Hattie Jaques.

A black lace mantilla for some extra zhuzh

Nike Air max and floral dolce and gabanna frock was a definite thing in the 90s and still looks fresh now. Loving the 90s looks!

Serpenta · 31/05/2021 13:30

Any takers for white sports sock teamed with sliders a la Justin Bieber?

EvilPea · 31/05/2021 13:31

I’m too short and dumpy for the trainers bit

TheCreationOfDistance · 31/05/2021 13:31

I can’t wear trainers or Superga/Converse shoes - they make me look like a toddler who’s dressing up as a clown. It’s so hard! I guess embrace the floaty dress with Birkenstocks - but sandal version... I ditched the denim jacket for cardigans or loose cotton shirts. Much comfier!

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 31/05/2021 13:32

It's what I am wearing today.
Not really floaty-above the knee but flowery dress)
and gasp DH told me I looked nice.
He is a bit dreamy and might not notice if my hair was on fire so it was nice Grin

I did ask DD-aged 20- if I was too old for the denim jacket to go with it and she hesitated just enough to make me worry (In my 50's)

So I'm going to leave it...for now

bananabuddy3 · 31/05/2021 13:32

As someone with large awkward shaped feet I love the fact that trainers with dresses are fashionable, for once I’m actually on trend!

I love the current mismatch personally. But I’ve never particularly cared, I wear what suits me and what I like and find comfy. I’m still wearing skinny jeans. I have a denim jacket.

Devlesko · 31/05/2021 13:34

Long floaty dresses and skirts never go out. Maybe the style changes a little, like the hem.

Standrewsschool · 31/05/2021 13:36

@WhatsGoingOnHereThen

Where are people buying loose floaty dresses? I haven't got anything like that and want to get on that horse. I had a look in Primark and there was nothing suitable, actually everything in there was absolutely hideous. I've got a Next, M&S or DP in my nearest town... TK Maxx a little further away.

Trainers probably need a whole thread of their own as I find them impossible to buy.

M and S have a good range this year, including selling other brands. This year’s new term for it is ‘midaxi’.

If you can get away with it go for it. (Personally I’d look like a angry fat cloud). I think the lass we saw yesterday picking her way along a muddy farm track dressed like this may have regretted her choice.

homemadefries · 31/05/2021 13:39

@murbblurb

trainers? What, shoes you can actually walk in? No way. Women must SUFFER. You MUST wear staggering heels or ballet flats. You aren't a real woman if you can walk without pain.

or that seems to be the message, anyway. Fuck that.

Who has said that? Literally no one

A floaty, midi shirt dress is super versatile if you get the right print. I like something with a dark background, I find that works with white trainers and a denim jacket in summer, and with tights, boots and a sweater in winter.

@TaraR2020

Tbf its been my style for years...wish everyone else would stop copying me 🤭
I love that look. I’ll still be copying you for years to come.
orangecinnamon · 31/05/2021 13:45

I do applaud more comfy shoes , trainers with dresses is a lovely look as you say. I'm not sure about white trainers though... too much maintenance? I'm wearing Tevas a floral dress ⁰and black card/bolero today.

Unsure33 · 31/05/2021 13:46

I am so happy as I can’t wear heels but I do have different colours of trainers and converse to go with dresses and skirts

Cowbells · 31/05/2021 13:47

I was in London on Saturday. The hair! The new colour seems to be women with long dark emerald hair. They looked stunning, and there were the usual blue and pink and scarlet hair. I saw lilac satin swing skirts and micro mini skirts, loads of floral dresses with white trainers. It was wonderful after months of nothing but leggings and padded coats

JudgeJ · 31/05/2021 13:53

@SkintSingleMother

Resurrected from c. 1992, it will never die because it was undead three years ago.
Minus trainers it's been around since the 60s, eg Marianne Faithful, you didn't invent everything and I'm sure it'll be around for many years to come! I just wish someone would bring back the cheesecloth dresses of that period, all cool and floaty.

It’s such an easy comfortable outfit that suits most body types.

I wear what I feel comfortable in and don’t really care about the judgy types.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 31/05/2021 13:56

It's so nice to see people out! I don't care what they're wearing. I'm not a floral print fan, not keen on denim jackets and floaty anything looks ridiculous on me (petite with big boobs), so not a trend I'll be wearing, but it looks nice on others.

plus3 · 31/05/2021 13:58

Ooooh I need to up my game ...am still in my Breton, straight legged jeans & converse Grin

allofthecheese · 31/05/2021 13:59

I love this trend! Hope it continues GrinI'm petite and it probs can swamp me but super comfy and ahhhh I'm just so happy the suns out Star

Maireas · 31/05/2021 14:06

@OrangePowder

It's comfortable and practical, about time women embraced fashion like that rather than clothes they can't do anything in.
Exactly this! High heels, I'm looking at youAngry
