I see the uniform of floaty dress, white trainers and denim jacket has survived the pandemic

I'm happy that others are happy with what they are wearing.

WhatsGoingOnHereThen · 31/05/2021 12:58

Where are people buying loose floaty dresses? I haven't got anything like that and want to get on that horse. I had a look in Primark and there was nothing suitable, actually everything in there was absolutely hideous. I've got a Next, M&S or DP in my nearest town... TK Maxx a little further away.

Trainers probably need a whole thread of their own as I find them impossible to buy.

Anyway, I'm 35 and wearing diamanté stuffed jeans in heart shapes - judge me!

@LongHotSummerJustPassedMeBy

Sports leggings with crop tops are also popular where I live. I agree that it is nice to see a mix of different styles now that the weather has warmed up!
We get a lot of that in Australia.

So much so, that they even created a skit for it

Rina66 · 31/05/2021 13:02

It must be the trainer aspect that keeps this look going, the acceptable summer shoe that does not require a pedi first! I love the look but I can't bear sore feet (strappy sandals), back ache (flip flops), twisted ankle (wedges) and clawed toes (sliders).

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 31/05/2021 13:05

and then this one

duckme · 31/05/2021 13:08

I've seen a huge variety of looks over this weekend. It was sunny where we were and lovely and warm when out of the wind. The sea breeze was biting though. I absolutely love that the British will see a sunny bank holiday Monday and, regardless of the actual temperature, will wear summer clothing.
It really gladdened my heart. It's been such a good weekend, it felt normal and everyone looked happy.

newnortherner111 · 31/05/2021 13:09

Wearing clothes for a second season or even a third one. How lovely and environmentally friendly.

As for trainers and dresses, don't we blame Lily Allen for this, not Lily James?

LongHotSummerJustPassedMeBy · 31/05/2021 13:10

To be fair, the leggings and cropped top owners that I saw had most likely been out for a run, and had met friends for a latte outside afterwards. This is common where I live and bright printed running outfits are popular with runners here.

I just thought it just added a bit of colour/pattern into the mix of different looks (while perhaps not being a 'style' in itself...as has been pointed out by several posters here ShockGrin)

NewAndImprovedNorks · 31/05/2021 13:10

I am literally wearing exactly that uniform today.

I regret nothing

Yeah it's Lily Allen c. 2000 and something

Neither, it was huge in the 90s as were trainers in general. I still have my teenage wardrobe of Nike Air Maxs.

nancy75 · 31/05/2021 13:12

If I left the house in ‘active wear’ I’d either be arrested for public hideousness or put in a cage & gawped at as an unknown species - floaty dress all the way for me😂

duckme · 31/05/2021 13:13

@amymel2016

I noticed in town on Saturday loads of women wearing gorgeous dresses, floaty dresses, skimpy slip dresses, bodycon, short, maxi, midi, all different body types and ages. It was WONDERFUL, I think the pandemic has helped people embrace who they are and everyone just feels lucky to be able to go out.
I totally agree. I got to the point at the beginning of this year when I just thought 'fuck it'. If I think I look good, if I'm comfortable, if I feel confident then I really don't care what's in fashion at the minute (I'm way to old to keep track anyway). I bought a bikini for the first time ever this year. I do not have a bikini body but I don't want to be ashamed of it anymore. This epiphany is literally the only thing I can thank this last year for.

I don't have a floaty dress and denim jacket combo, but I'm going to get one. Fuck it, I may even get a hat.

gagrag · 31/05/2021 13:16

It's the cycling shorts with the high socks that is back a la Princess Di, I won't be attempting that this time round 😆

TortoiseShed · 31/05/2021 13:18

Like the look fine on others, but I'm very over it myself.

Thinking of putting my white trainers into storage, but they're mighty comfortable! Tricky.

RosesAndHellebores · 31/05/2021 13:18

Well it was the look Carrie went for sans trainers and denim jacket

That's right, and it's something that I've continued to wear since. I've got issues with getting my clothes on (thank you arthritis!) and dresses are a damn sight easier to put on and go about my business in. As are trainers, much more supportive.

As for denim jackets, they have been around since the days of Mr Strauss. Buy a decent one and you can wear it for years.

SymphonyofShadows · 31/05/2021 13:20

I apparently always dress like a Spanish widow with a splash of Bet Lynch. I could work this in a black/leopard combo I suppose

Loubiemoo · 31/05/2021 13:20

@MarieIVanArkleStinks

I was wearing this kind of thing in the 90s!
Tbh, I’ve been wearing it since the 90’s.
justasking111 · 31/05/2021 13:23

Car to bar shoes are fine if that is all you are doing, but if you are cruising around fgs wear something comfortable.

murbblurb · 31/05/2021 13:25

trainers? What, shoes you can actually walk in? No way. Women must SUFFER. You MUST wear staggering heels or ballet flats. You aren't a real woman if you can walk without pain.

or that seems to be the message, anyway. Fuck that.

maddiemookins16mum · 31/05/2021 13:26

Better than unflattering leggings and vest tops showing too much pasty flab.
