What jean will you be wearing in 2021?

So I'm seeing everywhere that skinnies are officially out, and pretty much anything else goes this year. Mom jeans look utterly terrible on me. I'm an hourglass with bigger thighs and a bum, and find that mom jeans and the other popular styles that were in the last few years accentuate my thighs and make my bum look saggy and flat. I think I've settled on some bootleg and flared styles but am also considering some ultra wide legged ones that I can wear with trainers and flats. But I do feel like a bit of a '90's skater kid. I'd love a cropped pair of jeans as well, but at 5'3 they can be trucker to pull off on me. I'm loving these styles in general though, so will try and find some that suit me.

A few of the "on trend" styles for this year. What do you think?

@mommybunny, I ordered those Boden jeans in the Khaki shade and they arrived today. Ordered in an 8 amd a 10 in a regular length and neither are as tight on the thigh as in the photos on Boden although if you look at the different colours on their website, they’re all varying levels of tightness. Anyway, think I like them on but might order a long as they’re a tad shorter on me than on website when I roll them up.

Really looking forward to a change from blue denim skinnies for summer.

CorianderBee · 28/04/2021 23:45

@coogee

Ultra low bootcut today.

I found them at the back of the cupboard. The zip is about an inch and a half long.

That's not even the length of my fanny! Never understood how anyone got in low rise, they only go halfway up my bum
FreekStar · 29/04/2021 00:09

I'm going to wearing high-waisted slim flared jeans! Not ordered them yet but excited to have a change from skinnies. So glad the 2021 version f the bootcut is high waisted as I will not be going for a hipster low slung waist - muffin tops and visible thongs are staying firmly in the 90s!

FreekStar · 29/04/2021 00:11

And I will be wearing the flared jeans 70s style with a chunky heeled platform tan sandal, or wedge, tan belt and tucked in fitted blouse. And a gorgeous tan saddle bag to match!

Mandalay246 · 29/04/2021 03:47

FreekStar - you are my kind of person, and I know you are going to look great. Me, well I can't pull off any look really, but I try!

justawoman · 29/04/2021 07:41

Sadsongsandwalzes oooh I like those topshop ones. In the early nougties I had a pair of low rise indigo flare jeans from topshop that I wore until they literally fell into holes. They did all that thing of wicking up the water when it rained, showed off my lower back tattoo (NOT a tramp stamp!) when I bent forward, and generally were probably hideously impractical, but I lived in them with a variety of black tops and chunky shoes. I was devastated when they finally died

What jeans are you buying?

Out of curiosity, how many pairs of jeans have people got, and what style?

This is exactly how I'd wear them. Sounds like a fabulous outfit. I'm really short so wedges are my friends lol

I’ve got two pairs of jeans at the moment. One black flare jeans (Topshop Jamie) which are full length, and one black crop flare jeans, better for wearing in the summer and also to tuck into wellies when I’m dog walking.
I also want some jeans which aren’t black. I’m either going to get the M&S balloon leg jeans, or some high waist wide leg jeans too. Three pairs of jeans will be enough for me.

mommybunny · 29/04/2021 09:48

@Lululu22

You must have fabulously thin thighs if those jeans are looser on yours than the models’!

I bought mine in black. I’m really loving them. I’ve been trying to adopt a more “Parisian” way of dressing, which as I understand it is all about what looks good on YOU, not necessarily what is in fashion (of course all the Parisians I’m following look good in everything! ☹️). Wide legs and flares really don’t suit me as my legs are short and already wide. High waists are ok as long as they suck in my tummy.

I just find flares quite impractical although it's nice to wear a different shape.

Maybe standing about in a pub garden sipping a drink would work. I'd wear the above outfit but replace the flares with my lovely indigo skinnies turned up at the bottom with white plimsols or sandals.

ladygindiva · 29/04/2021 10:50

Can't wear flared being 5 '3 and short legged they always drag a few inches on the ground. Skinnies gather nicely at the ankle which is fine and I can turn up straight jeans but there is no solution with flares as I can't sew or wear heels. And petite ranges are always that little bit too short.

ladygindiva · 29/04/2021 10:52

I bought cropped 501s lately and they are the right length 🤣

nevertrustaherdofcows · 29/04/2021 10:59

Hottest - me too!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 29/04/2021 11:37

I packed skinny jeans in a few years ago - I kept one pair just in case, but I have never looked back!

I wear barrel legs (Whistles), balloon legs (Levi's), or cropped 501s. I'm quite hippy with a small waist, and the tucked in/short top and looser bottom works really well for my shape.

Like pp I bought those M&S balloon leg jeans this week. I wasn't sure size-wise, and ordered a 10 and a 12. The 10 feels like it is gripping my crotch a bit compared to my other similar styles, so I might keep the 12 and just wear a belt. I got the khaki colour which I thought would be nice with red on top, and white trainers, if it ever warms up. I also thought they came up pretty long - I'm 5ft 6 and got the regular, but for them to be at my ankle bone they need turned up. For £30 and then a Sparks offer for 25% off they can't go wrong though.

nevertrustaherdofcows · 29/04/2021 13:03

OP - that first image ... where did you find it, pretty please?

(Though I am half the height and twice the size of the model, drat it)

FreekStar · 29/04/2021 14:17

@Standrewsschooland I was thinking of trying the Jigsaw slim fit flares- although I would prefer a really dark blue. Mint velvet have some nice ones too. I have quite long legs so need a 32" or 33" inside leg and a size 12.

FreekStar · 29/04/2021 14:20

The main problem with wider legged jeans is that you need different pairs in different leg lengths depending on whether you intend to wear them with flats or heels.

I just found it on Pinterest by searching 2021 jean trends or something like that. I did look to see what brand they were but it wasn't linking to the brand site or anything. Just a Spanish (?) blog

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

That is my current dilemma right now. Flares look great on me. It I need to wear a high wedge shoe or boot with them otherwise they drag on the ground. Not practical in the rain. Wide legs I can only do with flats or a low heel as my legs will look super short if they're cropped and any longer and they're just really difficult to match with a shoe. So I'm trying to find a pair now that are slimmer leg. Not skinny, but that I can wear cropped just above the ankle with trainers or a heel if I wanted

I have these which look good with trainers, sandals, ankle boots and even heels. They come up a bit shorter on me than they are on the model though in the regular length, I'm 5"7"- the longer length were a little too long though to look good.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 29/04/2021 18:14

Do the m&s jeAns stretch loads?

I like the lily ones but am not sure if I got the right size. Will they be stretched beyond recognition after 10 minutes?

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 29/04/2021 20:43

@ThinkAboutItTomorrow I have the lily with stretch and in my experience not at all. They are just a bit more comfy, I am large of thigh so need the stretch.

Thinking about it, the jean I'll be digging out this summer will be the random TK Maxx pair from an unheard of German brand that fit and flatter me like no other but cannot be rebought for love nor money anywhere in the world.

Anyone else? I've had three pairs of totally rando jeans from TK Maxx in the last few years that absolutely nail it but don't apparently exist.
