What jean will you be wearing in 2021?

So I'm seeing everywhere that skinnies are officially out, and pretty much anything else goes this year. Mom jeans look utterly terrible on me. I'm an hourglass with bigger thighs and a bum, and find that mom jeans and the other popular styles that were in the last few years accentuate my thighs and make my bum look saggy and flat. I think I've settled on some bootleg and flared styles but am also considering some ultra wide legged ones that I can wear with trainers and flats. But I do feel like a bit of a '90's skater kid. I'd love a cropped pair of jeans as well, but at 5'3 they can be trucker to pull off on me. I'm loving these styles in general though, so will try and find some that suit me.

A few of the "on trend" styles for this year. What do you think?

@bendmeoverbackwards

I am also 5'3" and find I prefer the regular length jeans in M&S. It is difficult to say this will definitely be the same for you though - I think I have rather long legs and a stumpy torso, but I also find the sizing of M&S jeans aren't always consistent from one pair to another (even in the same style!)

withlotsoflove · 28/04/2021 15:27

Flared or high cut sprayed on skinnies!
Both suit me. I’m 5”8 with an hour glass / gym body!
Don’t want mum jeans! They really only suit teenagers! Grin

justawoman · 28/04/2021 15:31

I’m another apple-shaped top-heavy 501-lover. I don’t know why, but I even find the sturdy non-stretchy denim more satisfying to wear, even more comfortable, than stretchy denim. At least, once I’ve worn them in, which only takes a day or two

Floisme · 28/04/2021 15:33

I am wearing jeans less and less over all these days.
I am too. Last summer I hardly wore them at all. Jeans have dominated fashion for so long but now we've got other options - and loungewear and sportswear are giving them a real run for their money.

ThursdayLastWeek · 28/04/2021 15:37

I’m excited for it to be warm enough to wear my tencel denim culottes.

I’m currently in an old pair of monki taiki jeans with a cool cut out in the legs that are my spring. TBH when it actually gets hot I wear cotton trousers.

I’m of the opinion that 'flattering' is not the only measure of a good pair of jeans.

IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble · 28/04/2021 16:38

@bendmeoverbackwards I am 5'7 and I get the regular and they aren't full length on me, I like a bit of a gap between jeans and trainers so suits me fine.

If they come up to long could always turn them up a bit more. They look good either way, I think they're a bargain.

nancywhitehead · 28/04/2021 16:51

I really don't like any of them!

Although as a disclaimer I've never cared toooo much about what's "in fashion". I tend to just try and go for what suits my shape, which is usually a low rise slim/ straight/ relaxed skinny.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 28/04/2021 16:54

Flares look great on me as they highlight my ‘best bits (long legs, slim thighs, small bum, narrow hips). Whether I’ll buy any is another story though, I haven’t worn skinnies for a few years, I’ve been in slim leg styles.

BalladOfBarryAndFreda · 28/04/2021 17:00

That sounds really boasty btw, I have lots of ‘not best’ bits Grin

Cavalierorwhat · 28/04/2021 17:06

@IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble yes I second the Lily jeans...wearing a pair now. Love your username, not too far from the river myself

SandDunesAndSaltyAir · 28/04/2021 19:07

I'm still wearing boyfriend... are they completely out now?

lindyloo57 · 28/04/2021 19:39

I'm 5ft 3 I love the m&s lily jeans too, I have two pair, I also fell back in love with oasis scarlet bootcut jeans, used to wear them when they were in style before, they fit just like the lily's, fitted round the bum and hips/ thighs and small bootcut from below the knee, I got mine on ebay for £5.00 a pair, I brought 3 pairs. They are the only shape other then skinnies that seems to suit me.

Squiz81 · 28/04/2021 21:07

Fat face girlfriend Chesham jeans are great too, they are a straight leg, but quite a relaxed fit. I find them more flattering than skinnies.

I only brought my first pairs of skinnies last year as I felt too fat to wear them. Now they’re out of fashion, and my bootcuts which I haven’t stopped wearing are now fashionable!

People assume that bootcuts haven’t been around in the last few years, but shops have never stopped wearing them.

Standrewsschool · 28/04/2021 21:35

Are all mom jeans short? I tried a pair on and they felt short?

wheresmymojo · 28/04/2021 22:18

Mom jeans make my arse look terrible.

Crop jeans make me look like The Hulk caught mid-transformation.

Sooo....

I'm doing M&S Sienna straight cut which are very flattering.

I may venture back into bootcut / small flares at some point but I'm not adequately mentally prepared for that yet.

MintyCedric · 28/04/2021 22:20

Sticking with my stretch skinnies...I have no desire to look like Jabba the Hutt in Levi's...

PickAChew · 28/04/2021 22:22

My elbow never did recover from the last time wide legged jeans were in. Got my foot caught, pushing ds2's buggy, and went arse over tit in them.

wheresmymojo · 28/04/2021 22:23

I don't think I can go back to low rise.

Firstly because I now have a large gut that didn't exist in the 90s/00s which would hang over them Blush

Secondly because I'm still scarred by memories of low rise jeans with my thong hanging out of the top every time I sat down although now I wear great big cotton pants

I used to wear a lot of bootcut trousers with an upturned hem and stilettos when I first started working.

One day my heel caught in the hem at the top of a flight of stairs when I was just about to walk down them with a mug of coffee.

I nearly broke my leg (still have a dent in my shin from the edge of one of the stairs!) and the mug hit the floor spraying coffee all up the walls. I'd been working there for 3 months and was mortified.

(Also had a similar thing happen on an escalator holding a Spud U Like jacket potato and large coke - totally mangled my legs on the esclator teeth but somehow landed with the potato and coke still in my hands and without spilling a drop).

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 28/04/2021 22:34

I like the ones below. Not crazy about the distressed bit on the front stomach area. I wonder if they might work for me.

I have a pair of the M&S mom jeans. Had to size down as my usual 14 looked like a sack on me but the 12 was much nicer across my excuse for a bum. I can't wear them on bloaty days as the denim isn't stretch but they're much more comfortable on warmer days than stretch denim jeans.

I tend to wear them with a closer fitting top, though. I'm an apple with an absolutely wasted waistline so tend to go loose on top, snug on the bottom or the other way around. (unless it's hot then I happily billow all over)

Ah, whale tail.

(often seen with a "tramp stamp".)

Takes me back.

SadSongsAndWaltzes · 28/04/2021 22:59

I'm loving the return to wide legged jeans! I only just decided a couple of years ago to make the move to skinny and never really got used to them. I've still got some awesome low rise ultra wide leg jeans from the 90s/00s which I can just about fasten so I've been wearing those again (when it's not raining!). I've also just bought these but have yet to receive them and try them on, I'm quite excited!
