What jean will you be wearing in 2021?

So I'm seeing everywhere that skinnies are officially out, and pretty much anything else goes this year. Mom jeans look utterly terrible on me. I'm an hourglass with bigger thighs and a bum, and find that mom jeans and the other popular styles that were in the last few years accentuate my thighs and make my bum look saggy and flat. I think I've settled on some bootleg and flared styles but am also considering some ultra wide legged ones that I can wear with trainers and flats. But I do feel like a bit of a '90's skater kid. I'd love a cropped pair of jeans as well, but at 5'3 they can be trucker to pull off on me. I'm loving these styles in general though, so will try and find some that suit me.

A few of the "on trend" styles for this year. What do you think?

I'm happy with skinny or wide legged/flared but I hate hate hate low rise. Post babies I need a high waist to stop my muffin top of the late noughties re emerging!

Eyevorbig0ne · 28/04/2021 08:12

None of the above. I've got missy Elliotts legs (before she lost weight) and I'm 5 4.
I'd look bloody hilarious in those. Circus would grab me as a clown 🎪😂.
It'll be 2019 jeans for me. I like the photos. Just not on me.

Divebar2021 · 28/04/2021 08:18

I’m always banging on about how crap M&S is now but then found their boyfriend jeans. I’m an hourglass... they’re not too loose or tight. The rise is high enough to go over my menopausal stomach. They hit the ankle on me which works with all shoe types. I’ve now bought the grey as well. I do have a pair of balloon leg cropped jeans from COS which I’m not slim enough to get into yet ( eBay purchase) and a couple of pairs of quite classic Levi’s purchased in the US years ago which I might try with a blazer. ( they’re too long though currently)

I'm sticking to super high rise skinny jeans. They suit my shape and style.
I have branched out slightly and bought some cropped straight leg jeans but I'm yet to wear them.

SmileyClare · 28/04/2021 08:26

I think its best to find a cut of jeans that suits you and don't worry too much about what's "in" or "out".
I think if you've tried on eight pairs and aren't particularly happy with any of them, then give up and try your skinnies Grin
;
Ill be sticking to my dark blue or black stretchy skinny jeans. I'm happy to wear other style trousers in different fabrics; I've got some nice loose linen trousers and some green cargos but baggy or flared denim swamps me.

coogee · 28/04/2021 08:27

Ultra low bootcut today.

I found them at the back of the cupboard. The zip is about an inch and a half long.

Floisme · 28/04/2021 08:29

So far I'm switching between straightleg, some 'skinnies' from circa 2003 that are wider than the aforementioned straightlegs and barrel leg. I do still have some Gap Long n' Leans waiting in the cupboard but I'm not quite ready yet for all the shoe-ha-ha that goes with them..

KateWinsome · 28/04/2021 08:31

Skinnies.
Happy to be labelled frumpy until they come back into fashion again Grin.

Mandalay246 · 28/04/2021 08:50

I always hated skinnies and wore bootleg the whole time everyone else was wearing them, so will continue. I'm also waiting for a pair of flares to arrive.

merrygoround88 · 28/04/2021 09:03

Be brave ! I am no skinny minny but some ankle grazers with a soft kick can look great. There is an insta page, milanesiamilano I think, that shows street style and you can see the range of jeans styles on real (albeit v well dressed and groomed) women.

PattyPan · 28/04/2021 09:07

I’ll be wearing my skinnies until they wear out! Bootcut/flares will always look dated to me (born in the 90s).

MorrisZapp · 28/04/2021 09:13

High rise skinnies until death here. Not ultra skinny, I don't like the sticking out calf thing. But stretchy and slim.

I wore 90s jeans in the 90s, they were shit. We called them 'cardboard jeans' and indeed I remember a pair that could literally stand up without me in them.

mommybunny · 28/04/2021 09:27

I’ve been looking for jeans to flatter me - I’m 5’4”ish and a size 10ish with probably more a pear shape than hourglass (my boobs aren’t big enough for hourglass though my hips are definitely larger than my waist). I’m long-waisted (or short-legged) and will always have chunky thighs no matter how little I weigh.

I recently bought two pairs of jeans I like - both of which came in a short/petite length.

I’m really loving the Boden ones - they are quite tight but not uncomfortably so and they make my thighs look almost skinny. The Mint Velvet are also really flattering - high waisted but not a “mom” shape which just doesn’t work on me. The leg is a little leaner than a mom style which I think makes the difference.

ExConstance · 28/04/2021 09:32

I would prefer to stick with skinnies but the time has come to change. I find Mom and boyfriend jeans very unflattering on my 5'3" frame but I'm delighted to be able to go back to a low rise flared style, lots on ASOS and selling out very quickly, so it isn't just me.I shall wear them with a whte T shirt and a belt with a large buckle, and Novestar canvas shoes.

Megan2018 · 28/04/2021 09:32

I’m sticking with skinnies. These styles would look ridiculous on me and not practical-I need mine to fit inside wellies!
I do have some cropped straight jeans from last year for Summer.

90’s style bootcut looked great on me so if they come back I’m in Grin

Boogiewoody · 28/04/2021 09:33

M&S Boyfriend or bootcuts

Tangledtresses · 28/04/2021 09:37

Still loving my gap best girlfriend jeans midrise which are always out of stock!
5'2" small hips

I have bought some high waisted from Vera moda and they are quite good but I do look like I've squeezed my fat tummy in them 🙄

ZaZathecat · 28/04/2021 09:44

My legs are my best feature so there's no way I'll be swamping them in barrel legs or wide legs. Will stick to straight and the skinnies I already have.

hauntedvagina · 28/04/2021 09:54

I'm going for girlfriend and carrot leg with a French tuck t shirt. I have a chunky thigh and both of these cuts work well for me.

merrygoround88 · 28/04/2021 12:09

@Tangledtresses I am also a big GAP girlfriend fan. I find them easier to fine in store

@mommybunny I love those mint velvet and Boden jeans, I may have to copy

MrsFionaCharming · 28/04/2021 12:37

I’m on the lookout for high rise, slim thigh, wide legs. I’ll wear them with wedges, and only on dry days!

MorrisZapp · 28/04/2021 13:02

Gap girlfriend are great, but the sizing and even shape is soooo inconsistent. I've bought quite a few pairs on ebay and never had the same pair twice.

newnortherner111 · 28/04/2021 13:39

Just hope cropped trousers and jeans disappear as quickly as possible. Before Covid 19 came along I use to refer to the fashion as the 'short trouser virus'.

WeirdArchitecture · 28/04/2021 13:55

Will continue same as usual but I am wearing jeans less and less over all these days.

My preference is for either my old JCrew skinnies or a pair of H&M low waist girlfriend slouchies.
Cant stand high waist jeans, I have a short-ish torso and mom jeans make me look like im wearing them as a necklace Grin

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 28/04/2021 14:05

I'm an apple - top heavy (one to two sizes bigger in tops than jeans), waist always bigger than I'd like, but with comparatively narrow hips - 31 inch waist but only 38 inch hips now (I know my measurements plus have been experimenting with different styles because I have recently lost weight) and Levi 501s classic unisex jeans suit me. Obviously they wouldn't suit an hour glass or pear shape but I have had so many compliments in them its unreal - more than anything else I own put together - so I now have two pairs Grin Also they're incredible quality - thick, sturdy, no stretch - and I wax lyrical about the size of the pockets.

Theyre perfect for me - only regret is not discovering this 30 years ago!
