What jean will you be wearing in 2021?

So I'm seeing everywhere that skinnies are officially out, and pretty much anything else goes this year. Mom jeans look utterly terrible on me. I'm an hourglass with bigger thighs and a bum, and find that mom jeans and the other popular styles that were in the last few years accentuate my thighs and make my bum look saggy and flat. I think I've settled on some bootleg and flared styles but am also considering some ultra wide legged ones that I can wear with trainers and flats. But I do feel like a bit of a '90's skater kid. I'd love a cropped pair of jeans as well, but at 5'3 they can be trucker to pull off on me. I'm loving these styles in general though, so will try and find some that suit me.

A few of the "on trend" styles for this year. What do you think?

Wide legged jeans that reach the floor with heels are grim. You can't see your feet so they look strange and you're collecting street dirt. No thanks.

I wear skinnies because I like them and don't give a damn what is fashionable.

Itsallhere · 27/04/2021 20:54

I’m wearing ones like your 4th picture pretty much all the time at the mo op.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 27/04/2021 20:56

@Hottesttrikeintown

I love the first pairs on both sets and would like a link Smile
I like them too 😊 Just not sure if they'd suit me. Afraid I don't have a link - I just searched for "Denim trends 2021" on Pinterest and they all came up.

I got the last pair I posted from this link: www.whowhatwear.co.uk/amp/new-denim-trends-2021

And then there's this one as well www.notimeforstyle.com/2020-jeans-trends-new-denim-and-how-to-wear-it/

OMG the jeans of my youth 🥰 don’t forget how it felt when they sucked rain water off the ground up to your knees though!

Tisforptarmigan · 27/04/2021 21:02

Looked at first picture and thought how lovely you looked and that they made you look tall - then realised it was a model! Grin

I bought the lily jeans from M&S after seeing reviews on here. Very pleased with how they look and the price.

Suzi888 · 27/04/2021 21:03

Bootcuts. Glad to see the back of skinny jeans, I think they’re awful.

PandaLady · 27/04/2021 21:32

I have been big on Mom jeans for a couple of years but I also wear a lot of wide leg crop jeans. I have just bought some denim coveralls from Free People and am hoping they look as nice on me as they do on the model who is 5 inches taller than me and four stone lighter. So that's going to go well.

@AlmostSummer21 'timber clad' Grin, I love that description and will be using it about myself hence forth!

Squiz81 · 27/04/2021 21:42

I wore this yesterday and DH asked me if I was going to a 90s party 🤣 the jeans did take me back to my youth and they are very comfy.

I also have cropped wide legs, which I’m saving until it’s warmer to get that extra bit of leg out.

AlmostSummer21 · 27/04/2021 21:46

@PandaLady shes5" talker & 4 stone lighter? They're bound to look much better on you!!

From one timber to another...good luck!

@SunsetBeetch. Thank you. Unfortunately they'll be too long in me, I need the ones that were popular a few years ago that had very very deep roll ups with the button up loops to keep they rolled up!

MrsMaizel · 27/04/2021 21:54

Levi's 312 Shaping Slim Jeans - best ever , not too tight on the legs as per skinny . I have hips and they pull your bottom up too . Pricey but worth it . Have already tried bootcuts - nearly drowned in the amount of material . I wore them in the 1970s. No way now 😂

SuperMonkeys · 27/04/2021 21:59

I'm going for cigarette/slim straight this year. Well, last year as well, though I went back to skinny for winter at times.

I do also have a pair of balloon leg which I like but as a size 16/18 are not as flattering. Plus a pair of fairly wide culottes.

GloriaSilver · 27/04/2021 22:16

Levi 501 30 cropped legged.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 27/04/2021 22:21

@GloriaSilver

Levi 501 30 cropped legged.
That was a pair I tried on over the weekend and they looked awful on me. 😩

I'll probably dig out a pair of old bootcuts or straight jeans.
Definitely not cropped or Mom jeans.

ladygindiva · 27/04/2021 22:26

This summer I will be wearing cropped wide leg jeans as in your second batch of photos. I'm a short size 10/12 hourglass with a reasonable waist. Mom jeans also look awful on me.

ChubbyLittleManInACampervan · 27/04/2021 22:29

I have wide hips and generally a “ feminine “ shape snd there’s 2 pairs of jeans I bought that I love love love

The HM ones look cute with fitted top that accentuates waist (it’s very nineties Grin) : www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0964664002.html

And these are great too, not tight like a skinny but still flattering and curvy cut... sooo comfy

www.fatface.com/women/clothing/jeans/chesham-girlfriend-jeans/960227.html?dwvar_960227_color=light%20wash&cgid=women-clothing-jeans#start=1

Neither of them are high rise and both cut well for hips

The HM ones are very long though (about 34” I reckon, they fit me and am 6ft)

bendmeoverbackwards · 28/04/2021 00:03

@IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble

Marks & Spencer Lily jeans with stretch are my favourite.

Straight leg, nice with a little turn up, not too tight and not too wide. Don't make me look like a sack of spuds like their mom jeans do and only £19.50.

@IDidntFloatUpTheLaganInABubble how do they come up length wise? I’m 5’3” and never know whether to get standard or short length.
bendmeoverbackwards · 28/04/2021 00:04

Does everyone wear their jeans turned up? Is full length a fashion no no?

SaturdayRocks · 28/04/2021 00:05

Absolutely delighted that these styles are back. I will be going for wide-legged and cropped.

So over skinnies.

ChubbyLittleManInACampervan · 28/04/2021 07:15

I wear my slouchy jeans full length

My girlfriend ones rolled up

justawoman · 28/04/2021 07:33

Another one for Levi 501 crop leg. I have one pair of 28 leg, which on me have the requisite slightly cropped look, and one pair in a 30 leg which is full length on me, and I love them both

Whatsthatohno · 28/04/2021 07:48

I'll wear a mix of high waist skinnies and high waist wide cropped.

I'm an hourglass like you and find high waist to be most flattering and gives less of a builder butt crack. I've bought a black pair or high waist cropped from asos and a light wash pair from Abercrombie.

My bum looks OK in the black pair but better in the blue. I'd forgotten how comfy they are! Like pp, I was reluctant to move to skinnies at first (as a grungy teen) but then emo became the thing so didn't look back after my first bright pink pair. Soooo pleased to have the flapping back Grin

The only dilemma I'm having is shoes - what are the most flattering? Chunky to balance out the volume?

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 28/04/2021 07:51

Loose ones - skinnies just feel so uncomfortable now. Hiut Myra, not sure how you classify them.

Love a high waist and hate distressed denim,

4PawsGood · 28/04/2021 07:52

@NoSiree

I am wearing straight cut. A bit bland and boring compared to your options! But they're my favourite cut.
Same. I tried Mom and just looked really fat.

I’ve got these in long and I’m 5’7” so I’d say probably short if they are in two inch increments.
