Nude tights still a no-no?

I'm assuming yes and I hate the thought, but I'm struggling to find a leg covering to go with spring dresses, boots/trainers that isn't heavy opaques.

Do I just give up and go with the opaques?

@DobbyTheHouseElk- If the tights have a cotton gusset of a sensible size, there is really no benefit. And the top of the tights adhere to the body better that way. It’s the double layering, fabric against fabric that causes slippage.

I like to think that l go through day to day life without showing anyone else my knix? So if you don’t think people seeing you knickers is the norm, why feel exposed?

And the gusett discreetly hides everything anyway. It’s a case of what you find more comfy.

What a load if tosh, its personal choice . I wear them sometimes and you can't even notice them they just make my legs look better. A good colour match is important and no shine

The queen is correct. I'm sure the tabloids who report this stuff have no idea what Kate et al really think about tights but it would be completely inappropriate to turn up at a formal event without tights. Bare legs with fake tan that looks grubby around the feet is not a classy look.

I'm very pale (north of Scotland freckly legs pale) and even in the 80s was able to get appropriately coloured nude tights (American tan is probably a 40s reference). I think it's mad that people are suggesting wearing leggings or long johns under a skirt when we all know a pair of matt nude tights in an appropriate skin tone is the most effective way of providing warmth, comfort for your feet and an even skin tone for your legs with a short skirt.

Any links to a my legs but better shade that will hide veins etc. please.

Also if wearing sandals can you just cut the toes of a normal pair or will that not work and I need toeless tights?

@superstar63 - l very much doubt if they would last an evening out. The hole would just get larger. I suspect the rough end would also be very uncomfortable.

I wear nude tights for places/occasions where people would be very surprised by leg hair on a woman

Nude tights will never be the height of fashion but they are imo acceptable for smart occasions and definitely improve the appearance of my blue, veined legs. I rarely go bare legged, only when it's exceptionally hot (28 degrees plus), and for that I find the Sally Hansen airbrushed legs stuff pretty decent. That stuff obviously doesn't keep you warm on a colder day.

They have to be a good fit, no sagging or wrinkling as that gives the game away, not too thick and the perfect colour match (easier said than done) and I can't forgive wearing open toed shoes with them, the so called 'webbed feet' look. They can be a pain as such thin tights are easy to ladder so just not very practical.

Imo if you get it even slightly wrong it's a bit like someone wearing the wrong shade or too thick foundation (which weirdly some of the young girls do now, but I can never tell if that's 'fashion' or they are just misguided).

I’m not young or stylish. Nude tights still make me think of my man’s ‘American Tan’. But the ones I saw (people watching on the tube) looked low denier, close to their natural skin tone and ‘glowy’ rather than shiny or matte. Next time I might be brave enough to ask where they got them from, as I’ve also got dresses I want to wear without black tights, but it’s way too cold for bare legs right now.

Each to their own. I don't like them, but I don't like being cold either do I tend to just wear other things at this point in the weather (pale jeans, crops etc, light trousers at work, the odd longer skirt). This is just a weather thing though, legs wise I just put on some gradual tan and get on with it. I've never had a pair of nude tights on for more than about 5 minutes without managing to ladder them.

I’m guessing knickerless without tights isn’t ever an option then. I must have been a very naughty girl in my youth

I wear stockings all year round, in black and in nude. Nice and cool in the summer. Cost effective as well because if you ladder one leg you only have to throw that one away!

If men are wearing shorts then it's clearly not a formal occasion is it? No-one is saying you have to wear nude tights when you go to the beach

I love nude tights, I always used to steal my mums when I lived at home. I've always worn them with skirts and dresses, I hate my bare legs. Too pale, dark hair regrowth and legs that never tan, and now I also have terrible sun damaged skin (freckles) all over both backs of my legs due to severely burning them 15 years ago. I too think it's better to have a great pair of nude tights then blotchy fake tan, with saying that I do use leg make up at the moment (if I'm going out in the evening) like a tinted gel as I live abroad and its too hot and I've never seen a pair of tights for sake, let alone a nude pair! With saying all of that each to their own.

My legs are so pale they are almost blue so I wear tights (or holdups). most seasons except summer when I use fake tan.

If I’m wearing a light dress or skirt then my tights or hold ups are nude, very fine denier. If I’m wearing a black dress or skirt then I wear nearly black fine denier or back opaque depending on weather and footwear.

I also wear popsocks if I’m wearing trousers with shoes (regular socks if wearing with boots).
