Nude tights still a no-no?

I'm assuming yes and I hate the thought, but I'm struggling to find a leg covering to go with spring dresses, boots/trainers that isn't heavy opaques.

Do I just give up and go with the opaques?

I'd completely forgotten about nude fishnets, will investigate.

And as PP have said, it's the white scratchy legs covered in goosebumps I want to avoid, esp while all our social life is outdoors. May try one of the recommended pairs and see if they work.

Update on the criminal side. The police came and l got away with a caution about the tights on the basis the shade wan’t quite nude. But they have asked that a further charge of wearing a polyester top be taken into account. 😂

On the basis that polyester usually means no ironing and is therefore quite sensible, I think you can be let off with a a caution.

Why do the mumsnet fashion police hate nude tights?

Admittedly ‘American tan’ type tights are revolting. However, colours and technology have moved on since the 80s and there are brands that are almost indistinguishable from the bare leg.eg Pretty Polly as others have said above. Boots also do one that’s very good.
Some people don’t have a choice. It’s still unacceptable in some professions and places to sport bare legs and even when not, for those of us in the North, goosebumps aren’t a flattering look either!
I noticed in Malaga three years ago at the Easter Semana Santa celebrations that the very elegant ladies all wore nude tights with their lovely summery dresses - clearly traditional to dress up for the events, but not to be freezing doing so

I wouldn’t call American Tan nude tights. We used to wear them on stage because you needed something darker under the stage lights.

Always wear nude tights! Then again i don't give a shit ;-)

Well I guess there is an association with American Tan for me. I think I had to wear nude tights at my first job at 15 ( pairing it with a tabard!!!!). It conjures up visions of nude shoes too which I’m also not a fan of. It’s all personal preference... if it’s too cold to go bare legged I would be wearing trousers.

But American Tan are not nude. They are tan coloured.

Nude tights have come a long way since the “American Tan” my mother used to wear, 3 pairs in a box from the corner shop. Nobody would know you’re wearing them if they’re a good shade.

So much less hassle to pull on a pair of tights than to do all the fake tan stuff.

Gosh, I've always worn nude tights at work, if wearing a dress (unless black opaques go better).

I am so old that bare legs feels far too casual for work, especially with heels.

Give zero f**ks what the mumsnet fashion police think. Buy a very good quality pair, your legs will look better and nobody will know you are wearing them anyways!

It is one of those weird British fashion quirks/culture to sneer at tights. In my home country they are very much part of looking well dressed and groomed.

I'm also one of those who hates the feel of bare feet in shoes unless they are some sort of summer sandal. If I was still working in the City, I would feel too bare and casual with bare legs.

Nude tights and no knickers???? That’s not right.

I love the way nude fishnets look, but they feel so uncomfortable under my feet. Does anyone else find that?

I don’t know where I got them from but the best nude fishnets I had were fishnet over the top of fine tights ( not a chunky as they sound). They just felt like regular tights on the inside. I think they may have been manufactured for dancers. Otherwise the micronets don’t allow your toes to poke through the holes.

The discussion is about nude tights not tights in general... there are many other options available. Opaque, sheers, patterned, woolly, and different colours. I imagine the number of people who are required to wear hosiery in a corporate / city job is diminishing by the year as offices become less formal.

Florence and Fred nude, gloss tights are my favourite.
My legs look amazing in them.
