Has anyone bought from Chanel at Selfridges Manchester Exchange?

I'm threatening to buy a 2.55 Reissue

My nearest stockist is Manchester Selfridges Exchange Square. Has anyone bought there recently? (lockdown notwithstanding) What was your experience?

If anyone has opinions on the 2.55 itself I'd be glad to hear them too

I would definitely want the double C, just so iconic. My searching came across je suis Lou - a 20 something year old girl who has a disgustingly extensive collection of Chanel handbags.

@Inneedofanewwardrobe I think I'd feel the same if I didn't have the small single flap with the double CC. In the larger every day bag I want the original design though.

I dare not look up people with large Chanel collections - it could be dangerous I also want a card holder

@MrsCalypsoGrant 😍😍😍😍 gorgeous! I have a very similar one but I got the caviar calfskin. I just think Chanel design the most beautiful bags. Some people on insta have ridiculous collections, must be hundreds of thousands of pounds worth... but so beautiful.

I can’t help but think if I do get another it will be my last one, I can’t get over how much they up their prices. In a few years there’s no way I’d be able to justify one. As it was I got my WOC just before a price rise- but I guess they’re going the Hermes route?

Oh and if you can- get the card holder! Again I’d recommend caviar but they are great- I have a purse as well and honestly, as gorgeous as it is, it flopped and lost its shape within a year.

I also would love the Chanel tote, hoping I might get it as push present as it’d be a good baby bag (currently 6 months pregnant) but my husband thinks I’m ridiculous 😂

I thought this thread would go in another direction after reading your title! Yesterday an influencer posted a story trashing this Chanel branch as apparently they were rude to her. I thought you were going to tell us not to go there haha

@Inneedofanewwardrobe Technically it will be, although I don't really count the first as it wasn't exactly what I wanted, I only bought it as I was offered it for a really good price pre-owned. So technically this will be my first Chanel bag purchase from a Chanel stockist do you like my use of the word technically as blatant excuse making

@Inmypjsagain You definitely need another Chanel as a push present - I personally think this entitlement should be enshrined in law & then we all know what we have a right to expect

I'll bear in mind what you say about the card holder 👍🏻 I've also seen a nice YSL one with the old intertwined YSL logo on which I far prefer to the more modern 'Saint Laurent', though it might be nice to have one that matches the bag... 🤔

@mooonstone Ah, I don't do Insta so no idea about that - they'd better be nice to me when I go though or else I might be joining the platform just to complain about them

I bought a couple of classic Jumbos when they were £3.5k. crazy money at the time still is now but they are now over £6k. I have a caviar and an all black lamb. I love those bags. The classic reissues generally only come in distressed calf but are very durable. Occasionally you will get a seasonal caviar reissue. They are not as popular as the classic flaps but most people who buy them understand the history and want something a little more subtle. Enjoy the shopping experience and enjoy your bag when you get it. You will love it! Xx

Ah this thread is making me quite sad today. I had to sell my collection a couple of years ago due to circumstances and had some rarities there.

Still got my little Camellia card holder though, really durable lambskin. been in daily use for around 12 years, I think.

@MrsCalypsoGrant oh the ysl one attached? My mum has and it’s gorgeous! I have also the prada in a saffiano leather which has lasted brilliantly. But the reason I always say buy Chanel, is because I really think in 10 years times it’s going to be completely unaffordable, so I’m trying to buy bits while I can!

@Inmypjsagain Yes it's that one! I love it - I have a beautiful vintage YSL blazer & brooch with that logo, plus a vintage YSL fountain pen. But I hear what you say about Chanel, there is going to come a point when it all really is inaccessible...😕

I managed to not sell my Punk Clutch but that's not really every day wear :-D

I don't know a lot about designer handbags and have stumbled upon this thread by accident - the more I read the closer to the floor my jaw has dropped.

Hello OP sounds like you are after the Reissue in size medium. The Reissue was the OG coco designed bag. The Classic with the interlocking ccs was designed by Karl Largerfeld as an update to the Reissue. The Reissue you want only usually comes in aged calfskin (not caviar or lamb - like the classic cc bag). It comes with gold or ruthenium hardware.
In terms of size - Chanel used to call the sizes 224, 225, 225, 227 etc. But now they are small, medium, large etc. Basically sounds like you want the old 226 which is in between the size of the classic medium/large and Jumbo. In 'new' language this would be the 'medium reissue'.
I have the exact bag and love it. I'm a bit of a Chanel lover and have a little collection which I treasure. Although haven't been wearing much recently I'd never part with any.

I gather a lot of people call the Classic 'the Reissue' but it's actually the one Lagerfeld designed in 1983, incorporating the leather in the strap & adding the overt interlocking CC. I definitely want the one that looks like the original 2.55 (with just the addition of 'Chanel' on the mademoiselle clasp.)
