How much would you spend on a handbag?

I'm about to spend £250 on a bag and it's more than I've spent on one single item ever before. I keep putting it off but I can't stop thinking about this damn bag.

Buy it
If you don't you'll regret it 👜👛👜
I would probably spend £500 max on a bag.

Frogartist · 03/03/2021 23:58

£20

RinkyD · 03/03/2021 23:59

It’s all relative to your income. if you have a low income and are in debt then it is foolish, if it will not hurt your finances then why not.

I have dreamed of a Gucci disco camera bag for ages. It is the perfect bag for me, and I could afford it easily but there are other calls upon my finances that are more important.

I would be very conscious of cost per wear, and not go for a design that will date. What is the bag?

Can afford it but just wouldn't usually spend this much. I just love it, great size, good organisation, converts to a backpack carry. We're going on a weekend away in June (me, DH & DS) travelling by train and I think it would be perfect for carting all our stuff around.

If it's going to be used regularly and well- and it's within what you can afford, then it's fine- I like it too. It's all relative. I really want a mulberry bag- can't afford it. But also spent £250 on a backpack a few years ago which I love and use pretty much every day.

With big spends like this, when I know I really love something that feels completely frivolous, I tell myself that I can send it back if it arrives and I am still worried about the cost.

It then arrives, I love it just as much and rationalise that I have already spent the money so no point worrying now. Works for me! Grin

waitingforsun · 04/03/2021 00:16

@Maxellious good way to think about it for sure. I could easily send it back if it doesn't live up to my expectations!

@SD1978 well, I'm hoping I can use it regularly. Still seems a long way off to need to go anywhere with a proper handbag! Not used one for a whole year now! So part of me is wondering what I'm thinking! 🙈

I love it. I also love the way you rounded down to £250!

Well, they've got 20% off at the moment so really I rounded up 😅😆

I spent £4,500 but I’ve had the bag 5 years and counting. Classic Chanel and still as much in love as the day I bought it!

I have used it a great deal. I was considering selling it on Vestiaire Collective a year or so ago to fund the purchase of another bag (was offered what I paid!), but pulled out last minute as I couldn’t bear to see it go!

DramaAlpaca · 04/03/2021 00:25

I really love a Mulberry that's about £1,000. I could probably afford it if I desperately wanted it, but I just can't bring myself to spend that amount of money on a handbag, I'd feel guilty about it. I always buy cheaper ones then get rid of them when I get bored or they get tatty. I wouldn't want to be getting bored with an expensive bag! I spend up to £100 on bags, usually much less.

OP if you think you'll use it lots and you can afford it then get it. It'll make you happy Smile

iamaclumsytwat · 04/03/2021 00:25

Never justify a handbag purchase. As a fellow handbag addict I say go for it 100%

It's bloody lush btw

Amazing! That sounds like a good investment to me! I'd keep it forever if I were you

It looks great and is a big size . Classic tan and it will last forever . Much better than all the regular design crap .

This is why I'm struggling - I only have one other handbag and it's a small Fossil crossbody - think purse, keys, phone, lip balm size!

I love it! There are lots of lovely things on there. I've only come across the brand recently.

It'll be a long term bag for sure, as soon as I can actually go anywhere to use it!

This thread has been very helpful, and enabling! Exactly what I wanted! Haha

£200 is the most I've spent, but I didn't use that bag for long and it ended up at the charity shop. My current bag I love and it was about £110 if I remember rightly, a couple of years ago. It's by Concka and the quality is fab. I liked it so much I bought exactly the same one but in black (I had dark brown).

£110 seems very reasonable. I'm just a bit out of my comfort zone I think. I my head I'm telling myself I'll use it all the time but, will I really?! Man I keep swinging back and forth.

I'm getting adverts for your handbag after clicking the link. I think I'll need to buy it now as well 👜😂👜😂

ArcheryAnnie · 04/03/2021 01:13

I don't think I've ever spent more than £20 on a bag - but then I am also the happy recipient of other people's secondhand bags.

On the other hand, I have lusted after an Elvis & Kresse bag for so long. If I had money to burn, I could easily drop £300 on them, no trouble. But they have less expensive options, too - just none in my price range.

They are gorgeous, and also sustainable.

I want these so badly
